Was this a good game?
Was this a good game?
Yes but Champion's road made me expect too much from post-game content in a Mario game, thus leading me to disappointment in odyssey's post-game
never thought we were ever going to see something like odyssey after this piece of shit came out
it looked like the dead of 3D mario
and with NSMB killing 2D games and garbage like MP10 or color splash it looked like the whole franchise was doomed
>I didn't play Odyssey but listen to me guys
Are they gonna port it or what? Nintendo is really weird about their Mario games, do they ever remaster them or port them in general?
It's a good game though. Its just not sandbox style gameplay. It does what it does well.
Yes, better than Odyssey.
Its harder, has better levels and has a proper challenge mode level at the end
>It does what it does well.
Being a bland, easy platformer?
>Dark Side of the moon
>Man , I wonder what the final world will be. Isle Delfino or maybe a new Kingdom?
>Darker Side
I remember when Brainlet was streaming and everyone suggested that as a joke. Oddysey's postgame was ass. Not even one SM64 level in Peach's Castle.
The only thing I have left to do in the game is grind coins for store-bought moons (I'm at 881)
The post game was easy (the scooter-over-disappearing-road in Metro Kingdom bit was fairly intense, but I wouldn't call it Champion's Road calibur)
I hope not. Not every Wii U game needs to be ported. Let it have some legacy. Make a new linear 3D Mario instead.
he game ends after saving the princess, so mushroom kingdom is already post game.
So are the moon blocks and then dark and darker side.
That's quite a bit.
yes
no
it's a shit precision platformer and a terrible 3d mario because the base movement is stiff, slow, lacking in variety and utility
even nsmbu is better and tropical freeze demolishes it
>stream
Go away.
>Grind for coins
Go away too.
It was okay... but really underwhelming for a flagship 3D Mario.
Delfino will be in Odyssey 2.
>when the wii u buyer's remorse finally kicks in
>tropical freeze
>3DW tries its hardest to be SMW in 3D, but doesn't even have secret exits
>TF does
Lol
It was more like a SMB3 aka best 2D Mario in 3D
Extremely underrated game all around. Mario 64 nostalgiafags were especially butthurt about it for some reason. Maybe it's just because so few people bought a Wii U so not many actually played it and are just judging it by preconceptions.
It's a good game if you like 3D NSMB. It was an okay-tier experience for me though i only played it single player.
NSMB is garbage, but 3D World is actually good
I played the game you faggot. I also watched a guy who was streaming the game before release and people were joking in threads about the final level just being The Darker Side of The Moon and it turned out to be real.
Wii U was a complete dumpster fire. Save the games that would get lost in that wasteland imo. I mean, PC gamers can play them all on Cemu anyway, but Nintendo needs to put 100% into the Switch.
Worst console 3D Mario but still pretty good. Tried way too hard to get the nsmb audience
>even nsmbu is better
Stopped reading there.
I wouldn't know. I've played every Mario platformer but I never really liked any NSMB past the DS, probably because it was the first one I played. Loved the hell out of SMB3 and SMW.
Just thought 3D world was second to worst 3D Mario beating only 3D land. The sandbox games are much better.
The only good parts of the entire Odyssey post game is seeing the fruits of your labor in the world's and the ten or so linear courses the game adds after you beat Bowser (including the darker side). The rest of it's mushroom kingdom which looks unfinished, more trash moons in the world's, and crap bossfight rematches. None of the individual platforming bits of the darker side are even hard, it's just how many it has you do in a row.
>Likes Odyssey
>Complains about difficulty
>When 3D World bowserland and up is harder than anything in Odyssey
O I am laffin
That doesn't work when you read the entire post
Best nintendo game ever made
It deserved to do better than it did. It had great exclusives. But people hated it because it wasn't popular among their normalfag friends.
A very good one.
It's fun
This but because the switch exclusive library is clearly suffering over it and not for those gay reasons.
3D Land sucked SMB3's dick.
>Nintendo needs to out 100 into the switch
Which is why they're putting maybe 25% in and letting WiiU games cover the rest?
Galaxy games were better, but 3D World was very good too.
Unlike Zelda, most Mario games don't have a 20 pts Nintendo Bonus.
>the switch exclusive library is clearly suffering over it
Yeah, but mention that and people will pretend they're new and greentext
>He bought a Wii U
>Wii Who?
A great children's game.
An okay-ish party game (towards the end).
An absolutely boring single player "adventure."
A shit 3D Mario
A shit 2D Mario
Meh/10
It's alright. Completely overhyped though. Got a WiiU early 2014 (shortly before Tropical Freeze) and I remember how I was pissed that I fell for the bullshit from drones.
>Whoa, finally a challenging Mario game again!
>Just wait until world 5/6/7/8/bonus
It went so far until only Champion's Road was (rightfully) left. It's a very good level but unlocking it is pretty shit. I don't even remember much from the game, it was pretty boring overall.
Tropical Freeze was a much better platformer, it even handled bonusworlds a lot better.
Yeah, the one good level locked behind a lot of tedious, boring bullshit and reused levels is what made you expect too much from post-content in Mario games. Sure
Depending on how things play out, I plan to take full advantage of "don't call it a grave, it's the future you chose" posting.
>Nintendo tries to pass WiiU games off as new games
>Faggots buy into it
>We get another half decade of Mario kart 8 and Smash 4
I really hope this isn't the case, but it definitely seems to be the case.
Boswerland and up is post game kino retard. It's half remixed levels and half new brand new ones.
But please, keep demonstrating that you don't know what you're talking about.
>Trumpeting that you either like or tolerate the dumpsterfire that is generation 7 while trying to talk about opinions on Vidya
Its unironically the best 3d Mario.
Going back to the likes of Galaxy after this and it just feels boring. The level design here is just so tight, and theres absolutely no bullshit.
I dont understand how people can think its bad. Makes me worry about the quality of Odessey (I dont have a switch) if they call it a return to form.
Best 3D Mario next to Galaxy.
>but because the switch exclusive library is clearly suffering over it
Not really. The Switch is doing so good because it gets all the good WiiU games.
Porting doesn't hurt the Switch library at all, they probably have a team working on the ports while other teams work on proper new games.
Anyone who owns a WiiU and bought a Switch didn't do a smart decision. It was obvious.
Nintendo won't leave it anything. They didn't even bother stopping the piracy unlike the 3DS.
The WiiU was a complete failure. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the games but the console itself is garbage. The whole concept of the thing is the gamepad and no game really does anything with it. Most Nintendo games just use it to replace menu screens or whatever, that's it. It's only good for OffTV play and Nintendo would've been better off making the 3DS useable for that (a bit like what Sony does with the Vita except maybe a direct connection instead of using the network)
You can't even change console settings without using the gamepad.
The Switch is a WiiU but good.
>The switch is doing good because it's leaning on the library of the last Nintendo console
That's not how it works you fucking retard. Especially when Nintendo's on record that these new neglible content updates are so that the switchs versions can be counted as new full price exclusives all over again.
In their minds, if a WiiU game is coming out in one month they don't need to plan a switch game for that month. Nintendo already considers the switch to have it's own Mario kart, donkey Kong, etc.
When the lifespan is at it's end and you don't have a satisfying number of Switch exclusives don't call it a grave, it's the future you chose.
The level design is anything but tight . it's all too wide and lax than it should be to accomodate 4 players.
And of course movement feels like shit, playing Odyssey after it is like night and day.
Wow, so many words and yet you said nothing.
Bonusworlds were awful, unlocking them was even worse. They should've gone for alternative exits (SMW) or whatever instead of the awful green stars and goalpoles collection.
>50% remixed
>not a lot
Weird
I like Odyssey alright. I think most people are honestly referring to the idea of Mario seeing new places and characters more than the gameplay.
When it's fun it's fun but there's a lot that's not very fun. Also halfway through the game you'll realize you've been doing that Cappy throw mid air maneuver to unlock pretty much every moon in the game.
Asshurt pokedrone. I'll enjoy my game while you regurgitate talking points from retards that can't move on.
I share this thought (regarding 3D World). If it means anything, Odyssey is better than 64 and Sunshine.
It's a lot more than Odyssey, which is poking through the same hubs and boss battle rematches.
It's like 80% recycled vs 50% being remixed. How is that not massively better you retard?
>Especially when Nintendo's on record that these new neglible content updates are so that the switchs versions can be counted as new full price exclusives all over again.
They charge full price for them because Nintendo games rarely go on sale, they can get away with it because the WiiU was such a failure and the little content they add is there that their fanboys can say that it's the definite edition and an upgrade.
They can't just shit out games like crazy, game development takes time. These WiiU ports buy them time
What time do you think they're buying for the switch exactly? Given it's launch window in comparison with the rest of it's gen, it objectively won't have a long life unless some extraordinary circumstances occur.
Because these games aren't exactly linear. You can finish them much earlier than you can collect everything. They're different.
Odyssey is also a much better experience/game
>Odyssey is different because also it's much better
Wow what a case you've made for yourself, idiot.
Sup Forums talking about this fucking game on this board is the epitome of "nu/v/ hates video game, doesn't actually know why"
So you didn't play it blind, that's part of the fun you retard, it's a game about EXPLORATION but you are an idiot that lacks self control and watched it full before playing it thus spoiling the entirety of the game.
KEK
>What time do you think they're buying for the switch exactly?
For the next big game. Not really sure what their plan is when the next console gen is coming but I think it will take some time. This mid-gen release really fucked them up but I also think this is the spot where they want to be.
Let Sony/MS go for the next gen opening battle and swoop in mid-gen when everyone already owns one of either console and that way you also get a better information on what hardware to use and production is also cheaper
>Game about exploration
>They give you a map
What?
Huh?
It's fun and every stage has something different. IT's a fresh experience.
What do you mean?
It defeats the purpose of exploration based level design.
When you design a stage around exploring and then just give the player easy access to the lay of the land, your just left with lacking level design.
I didnt know the level layouts. I just peaked at the stream every once and a while.
The map only shows the topography, the levels are 3D.
Cat suit ruined it.
The topography is more than enough for every world that isn't new donk.
More than enough for what? Did you play the game? What does the map do besides show you what part you are standing on? You are just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
I thought it was fun as fuck.
Switch port when?
Its a good game, but its a mainline mario game so it'd be a cold day in hell before Nintendo actually releases a pure un-fun Mario game. The problem here is that other than the banging soundtrack and some levels the game is entirely forgettable. It doesn't have the novelty that 3d land had when it first released, and it doesn't have the soul that's makes games like Galaxy or Sunshine memorable.
