What will this game be like if it's actually good?
Other urls found in this thread:
unironically relic will ruin this. I'm a huge fan of AOE 2 and I know the game will suck dick. relic and MS will fucking shit on it.
We don't have any clue what the game will be like at all, let alone whether or not it's good.
>relic
>Sea of Thieves
>implying AoE IV won't have a cartoony aesthetic similar to AoE:O
I think MS will be one of the reasons it might have a chance, because IV is obviously coming off the current popularity of II, so they might play it conservative and faithful.
I dunno how they're gonna get lootboxes, microtransactions, games-as-service, boosters, shark cards, and pay2skipgrind working in a RTS
but they will.
I have faith that they will.
>a RTS
Welp, found my flaw.
They're gonna make it an Aeon of Strife-styled fortress assault game.
if you think they won't shoehorn in MOBA garbage, dlc, and any other feature they can imagine from popular games you are mistaken. name the last original game published by MS.
I want to believe they won't fuck it up but I KNOW they will. it being a windows store windows 10 exclusive is just the shit cherry on the diarrhea cake.
you're probably right about the cartoony style as well, relic ruined dow 3 with it. I hate it when games look like that.
it's going to be a moba
this
i want to believe after 3 flops in a row they'll get the message and play it safe, but...
name these 3 flops
DoW2
CoH2
DoW3
>dow2
>flop
it wasn't perfect but it was a decent game
>AoE
>not AoM
Don't care desu.
not him but a few off the top of my head are gow 4 & judgement, halo 4&5. they might have made money but nobody liked them.
>dow 3 bombed so hard that the director left
i'm hoping for aoe2 in a different setting with mechanics, such as global abilities and choices on upgrading ages.
if aoe does well, then aom might get attention.
>Age of Mythology: Total War
I agree it wasnt what people expected but it was a good game. one of my favorite campaigns in rts besides w3 and aoe 2. Empire earth had bitchin campaigns too
World War 1, World War 2, Cold War, War on Terror
>implying AoE IV won't have a cartoony aesthetic
Please Jesus, don't let this happen.
What do you mean with global abilities? If you mean like god powers, I can't see that working in a non-mythological, pre-modern setting. And I think age of empires should be careful with entering the modern age.
holy fuck that would be amazing
you know damn well it'll look like a pastel colored piece of shit. it's a modern day curse on strategy games.
can someone explain to me why nobody tries to go for gritty or realistic graphics anymore?
Not sure but I hate it. They already got Civilization VI... God willing they don't do the same to AoE.
>gritty
Age of empires (and more games) should be bright and colorful though, like they already are. Very realistic proportions and textures though, but bright all the same. I hate how dark and muddy everything became with 3d.
To be fair, people hated as well AoE 3, and it didnt need Relic or anything of that.
As a matter of fact, it doesnt matter what developer take the game, people will hate on it, and just go back to AoE2, because nothing will ever top that.
Heck, there is even people that call AoE2 HD and expansions a complete piece of garbage, just by adding few balance changes and civilisations..
global abilities doesn't necessarily mean god powers. take command and conquer generals as an example. the game has an ability that allows you air strike certain locations. the game is in a shit spot. purist fans will trash if they try to innovate. other fans will trash if they don't.
AoE IV needs to just be AoE 2 with modern quality of life mechanics (basically everything supcom did), larger unit counts (because it's cool), then just a smattering of new mechanics that don't involve restructuring the game but just making it a bit richer. Stuff like terrain mechanics, some new resources or ways to deal with them, fire, formations, etc. As a bonus they could separate the civilization groups a bit more like how the mesoamericans don't have gunpowder or horses, so all the asians have like rice tech, and all the middle easterners have islam tech, without making any civilization completely alien to another like how AoE 3 and AoM worked.
AoE III's aesthetic was pretty cartoony as well, see this guy , it wasn't that bad but I still liked II's more realistic, less flashy graphics. The comparatively huge units and buildings also took away a bit of the 'empire' feel to me, granted you're island hopping around the Caribbean etc., but I still miss the more massive feel of AoE II's cities.
I actually meant exactly that type of ability, that's why I mentioned modern age. Since they're all global, they're sort of delocalized from any unit. God powers come from the gods, C&C abilities come from off-battlefield artillery, ion cannons, deployments, etc. In the medieval era, there is nothing outside of the troops on the battlefield, so any attempt at that sort of ability would feel weird.
will be shit
wololo
So what era is it set in?
...
>civilisations..
Buildings and units of the newer civs don't really fit in visually. They look like from a cheap mod.
They gonna make a moba / rts hybrid
Just watch it
Like Warcraft 3, kiddo?
Like dawn of war 3 smartass
Does Warcraft 3 have a core and towers to destroy?
>win 10 only
Yeah, no thanks.
They cant make a Moba rts hybrid.
If you want to go with the "worst case scenario"
You set it between "Industrial" or Imperial Age" to WW1 or WW2.
Then add Halo 2 General crazy powers Mechanics.
But they are not going to have 1 hero character being uber power like in DoW3.
Specially after what happen with DoW3
Wasn't 4 supposed to be modern? Wasn't their an intended progression?
1 was pre-Rome/ Roman
2 was Medieval period
3 was Colonialism and the age of Exploration
4 supposed to be contemporary
5 supposed to be futuristic
there was one ad that had that
but futuristic age of empires is just fucking stupid
That is technically just a concept art.
Artist playing with concepts and ideas.
People will hate an AoE on WW1 and 2 era. and even more the futuristic setting.
For me it would make sense to make it about industrial to ww2 or something... just because all others AoE are getting the supposed "Defenitive" edition, so trying to make a modern looking "AoE 2" seem pointless, specially because people will just love the first game at the end.
the only issue with having it around the great war, is making it feel like an age of empires game with all the fire arms and vehicles...
could that be just an impossible task?
DoW2 was not a flop, the other two were though. especially DoW3 what a fucking shame of a game that was.
funny to see how there is ton of people that will clasify DoW2 as a garbage tier game.
But still people liking it anyway.
>could that be just an impossible task?
feels like it, everything was built with swords/bows/horses in mind, going to riflemen/tanks/helicopters is just too different, it would not feel like age of empires anymore.
AYO
I don't like RTS games
I thought I did, because I played a lot of AoE II back when it was new, as well as Red Alert and many other games, but in recent years every RTS I've tried I have found to be hectic and not enjoyable at all.
Recently, I tried They Are Billions and I could not enjoy it.
Were always this fast? I remember taking more time to plan my moves, not frantically micromanaging every individual unit around the map.
RTS games have always been about speed with higher level play, but against ai it's usually fine to take things slowly unless at higher difficulties.
maybe we dont rememember having it on the easiest dificulty.
