It's way better than Silent Hill.
It's way better than Silent Hill
Dumbass over the top difficulty spoils enjoyment of the game.
Its literally too hard to enjoy.
I loved the dread and atmosphere of the first levels but damn, after a while it becomes retarded hard even when you try to do it with a guide. one of the only few games i have never finished.
When did Sup Forums become this casual
>When did Sup Forums become this casual
When was this board created?
have you even played the game?
Because you didn't.
Its just frustating. its not even a challenge after a while, its about how dozens of tries you have to do to progress 5 more seconds in the level before quitting in rage.
I really wanted to like the Siren games, as they're from the director of SH1 ... but I just can't. The gameplay is not only very clunky, the level / mission design is infuriating as well.
The episodic design also ruins immersion, plus the 1st game suffers of god-awful English dub.
No.
But still a good game.
Fatal Frame's way better and spookier
Dude, it's not that hard, the only unfairness comes from the obscure puzzles, but you can use a guide for that, aside that it's a basic stealth game, literally git gud.
I'm playing FF right now and while I'm enjoying it, its presentation feels so barebones compared to Siren, the location feels really tiny and not as authentic, the puzzles are really dumb as well, it only has the camera mechanics going for it.
It's pretty good, but it isn't better than SH.
funny coincidence. I just started FF1 for the first time not too long ago myself, and been enjoying it a great deal. No idea why I ignored the series for so long.
Trust me, things do get more challenging towards the end. The atmosphere is top notch, and I'd say the "simpler" gameplay combined with the quite RE1-style mansion exploration work better than the Siren's obscure mission objectives with no room for experimentation.
>it's a basic stealth game
no
there are numerous places where you can't stealth past them and you have to be chased by those fucks and if you don't know exactly where you're going next and take just the right path to get there then you're just gonna have your ass eaten
They're two different games stop comparing them, this is how we keep getting retards going into Siren thinking "oh the silent hill man made it therefor it must play exactly like silent hill1!"
It's so fucking easy to lose them and if you get a weapon it's easy to fight them off.
If this came out today Sup Forums would be busting a fuck ton of threads and uncovering the true ending. Wouldve been hype
>Fatal frame
>Silent Hill
>Obscure
>Forbidden siren
>Haunting ground
>Rule of roses
Why was the PS2 the best console for horror games? And why there's no atmospheric horror titles anymore?
Gameplay wise I can see how it's better, because it's a much smoother experience, but Siren is just incredible to me, the locations are so well made and feel so real (and most of them are indeed real places), the heavy atmosphere and the feeling of being alone and defenseless in a dark place crawling with weird enemies, I like the structure of the game itself because it makes the enemy encounters feel less scripted, they are just there being a part of the world like any other element, this game is kind of a horror SIM if there's such a thing, right down to the clunky controls and I love it for it.
>The episodic design also ruins immersion
One positive aspect of it imo, is that it allows for experimentation with various types of gameplay depending on the current character you are controlling within the same game, playing a defenseless young girl feels much different from an armed adult.
Better cover.
Siren 2 is a million times better than Siren 1.
I'd agree for the most part, I just wish there weren't so many missions involving guns
It's easier and less confusing.
>to enjoy the game you need a guide
>waah why isn't this game easy like my spooky walking simulators
Technically you don't need one, but there are a couple of parts where it's almost impossible to figure out by yourself.
Cool to see a thread for this as its probably one of my favorite survival horrors of all time. I used to play this every year at Halloween but haven't done it in a while. I love the episodic nature of the game and how you in order to get many of the secondary mission objectives you need to have completed certain events in previous stages with different characters.
Because Silent Hill aside these games have never been successful, in fact they were spited and avoided by most people and marketers. Rule of Rose caused a ton of controversy for no reason too, in my country there was a massive slander campaign against it and it even appeared in newspapers and gossip magazines.
This genre of games is a lost art, and so many of them weren't even translated in english.
Anyway I played Yomawari recently and albeit not scary it has an excellent nocturnal atmosphere and sound design. If you like japanese style horror games you should check it out.
Siren 1 and 2 are the pinnacle of horror games.
I'd also put manhunt on that list even though it's not exactly 'horror'. That game is fucking tense.
Ps2 days were great.
