Why don't we talk about the superior version of Terraria?
It had a rough start but the game is literally perfect now.

Its better for base building than Terraria
that's literally it
You know what I hate about it? It ran like shit.
I hated how it deleted my saves and patched out systems that differentiated it from Terraria.
It will never surpass Terraria.
>superior version of Terraria
Is what what kikestarter backers are deluding themselves into to quell the backer's regret?
It's been 5 years since the promised date and the game is still a content wasteland. Call me when the toxic/magma planets dont use the same generic underground encounters anymore.
I like post-1.0 Starbound, it's not bad.
But Terraria is still better, sorry to say. Even if Starbound has the better setting and aesthetic.
Also crafting, exploration, character customization, lore building, spelunking, role-playing, and fun.
All Terraria did better was add more "hardcore" content for autists who want to grind for literal weeks on end for trivial rewards.
If it takes you weeks to get what you want on terraria you are bad and need to learn to make monster grinders to do work for you.
Dont get at me with this slow ass fuckin lame game. Its base building is shit. The monsters are shit. Weapons are shit.
Progression feels slow as fuck.
And to top it off the devs were total fucking cunts through its development. Fuck this game
>crafting
No better or worse than Terraria.
>exploration
Exploring the same planets forever that have the same thing as each other.
>character customization
Neither have particularly good customization. Starbound just has different races which all have the same stats.
>lore building
lol
>spelunking
Every planet looks the same past the surface and maybe you might run into a biome.
>role-playing
lol
>fun
LOL
>And to top it off the devs were total fucking cunts through its development.
Not him but the Terraria devs have done some pretty stupid shit in the past too. Red obnoxiously left the project on multiple occasions just to come back, one time being to make a shitty game no one cared about.
Nothing will beat the fun that was starbound general
He left to take care of his daughter you utter retard.
Supporting Terraria for all of this time and consistently giving free updates more than makes up for that.
>I'm never coming back guys
>Guys i'm telling you, never making content again
>I MEAN IT GUYS I'M SERIOUS
>comes back
It's still funny.
>better crafting
Arguable, maybe the only point I'll cede.
>exploration
Fuck no. Not even close. Almost every planet is empty of shit to see or do. Special mention to garbage planets for being exactly that. Just as an example, me and a mate once figured a way to get under the lava sea of a magma planet and the underground there was the same as on any other planet, with the same handful of static locations sprinkled throughout, like fucking graves, which makes a ton of sense for a magma planet. Devs just didnt give a shit.
>character customization
Starts out being true, but by the time you hit T3, every character starts looking like they're from Warframe.
>lore building
The story mode was absolute shit. I have not seen anyone defend that garbage fire.
>spelunking
See above. Literally nothing to see underground after a few hours.
>role-playing
Not a measure of the game. Anyone got the screencap collection of that one autistic guy roleplaying thousands of terraria characters on his own?
>fun
no
Eh.
The progression is weird. Terraria didn't have the big universe to explore but as an end-to-end experience it was more enjoyable. The combat also "feels" worse - Terraria animations and sound effects make the combat much more satisfying.
I think Starbound suffers from Bethesda syndrome. It works better as a mod platform than a complete game and requires mods to be better than a medicore experience. Terraria, while it does have user mods available, is still a genuinely fun and complete experience without them.
/sbg/ hype train was the best, and sadly a lot more fun than the game turned out.
it did turn me just a little bit furry for monkey girls though
>Also crafting,
Useless crafting. Oh boy, sixteen cooking stations with 400 food items apiece! Too bad hunger is a chore and can be disabled!
>exploration
Novel at first but every planet is the same procedurally generated shit
>character customization,
Lol there's not even vanity slots and the armor is over designed as fuck
>lore building
I can just tell you bought the game recently. The lore used to actually be good and they neutered it to be PG-13 garbage.
>spelunking
Spelunking fucking blows. Combat is garbage in general and even worse and is only even bearable because of rope cheesing.
Besides that there's not even anything to see underground and the only reason to bore yourself down there is ship fuel and ore
>role-playing
Ah yes I can play a guitar now I truly feel immersed as my character represented by six pixels
>fun
Maybe if you're an absolute shitter
>All Terraria did better was add more "hardcore" content for autists who want to grind for literal weeks on end for trivial rewards.
I wish it didn't take me until your last point to see this is bait
>needs mods to be half decent
>engine is pure spaghetti code and can't handle mods properly (hell, it can't even handle vanilla content properly, like vehicles' speed vs map loading)
>still no porn mods
Starbound is pure garbage and not even its dedicated community could save it.
The worst part about Starbound is Chucklefish themselves. Now whenever a project is even remotely tied to them a frothing hoard of spergs and autists chimp out saying the game will be bad regardless of how little impact Chucklefish has on the game.
Stardew Valley is the perfect example of this. The fucking dev had to appease to these spergs on several occasions.
I've played them both and don't really like either desu. Terraria has better bosses and better progression. You actually feel like you're working toward something. I think some of the building is fun too but I always felt limited to medieval/present day building.
Starbound is an exploration/base building simulator which makes it weird to really even put them in the same category. You play Starbound to feel lonely in an empty universe that you can expand where you want. You can actually populate full cities with the races, vendors, guards, and archetypes you want.
As an RP fag, Starbound wins it for me. I love being able to build the crew I want on the space colony I want orbiting the planet I want, etc. Its fulfilling building a lone medieval colony on the ocean floor of a far off oceanic planet or creating a broken down black market trading post in the center of an asteroid. Or even gathering a small crew of space marines to go with me to kill everyone in a village and leave with their loot. They definitely need to make endgame content harder. I feel like I got way too powerful too fast and that kills it a little but overall its a solid experience.
what's up with white people and RP??
Do you guys have autism or something?
Starbound has a lot of cool stuff you can do but the meat of the game, the shit you HAVE to do, isn't fun.

>years after release
>hasn't had a single substantial update that fixes any of the core issues that the game is riddled with
>still has that cringe worthy story progression system
>underground is still completely worthless and devoid of content
>enemies still look like deviant art abominations
>entire planets have less content than a single biome in terraria
>races are glorified reskins with nothing to make them unique
>bosses are absolutely garbage and gated behind their own prebuilt area IN A SANDBOX GAME L O L
>No world events take place what so ever like terraria's bloodmoon and goblin invasions
>biomes in starbound are just re-skinned areas that offer nothing unique compared to any other area besides some furniture (meanwhile terraria's areas have new unique enemies, items, furniture, hazards, completely unique generation and sometimes bosses)
Starbound is a joke of a game, it's why it is dead while Terraria is still going strong. Terraria also has a general up on /vg/ 24/7 because people are still interested. Starbound doesn't.
Terraria is also getting ANOTHER massive update (1.4)
Starbound is an absolute joke of a game.
Will 1.4 have even more autistically artificially difficult bosses because Red thinks the Moon Lord was "too easy" again?
RP has been around a lot longer than vidya has.
>19k people online
>Terraria's update hasn't even come out yet
Jesus christ. How are other sandbox gams supposed to compete with that?
Do Starbabies get scared about any kind of challenge?
I'm not talking about RPing in vidya.
I'm talking about the act of RP itself.
Only children do that shit when playing house.
they just want to rp as a floran. thats why all of the bosses in SB are baby mode
>muh Starbound
A lot of Terraria end game content is artificial difficulty.
It's not my fault Red went full edmond McMuffin when it came to the game's last few bosses, especially when he nerfed a bunch of shit that was already near impossible to obtain and nerfed most of the Moon Lord strats.
>A lot of Terraria end game content is artificial difficulty.
Terraria's difficulty is consistent. There's nothing artificial about it.
>Terraria's difficulty is consistent.
The jump between normal mode and hardmode is the size of the Grand Canyon and then shit like the holiday events and the Moon Lord/Pillars take another massive leap, with a lazy design philosophy of "lol spam a million enemies until they die"
There is absolutely nothing artificial about Terraria's difficulty.
>same rehashed bullet hell boss except more bullets with each new boss that require you to grind for days to beat
Wow
for
>there is absolutely nothing artificial about spamming a million of the same enemies to overrun the player with pure superior numbers and near one-shots which is the only source of difficulty for most end game bosses and events
Yeah, sure.
>moon lord
>difficult
Not even on expert, not even without prepping the world. As long as you are not a retard it's a relatively simple fight, if a tedious one.
There are skilled people who can consistently play through the game with hardcore mode characters (aka permadeath), while adding addittional rules like Spear-only who can beat the game.
Non of those are artificial difficulty.
>"n-n-nooo the game spawned more than 1 enemy thats not fair!"
Get fucking good lmao.
Casual starbound apologists crying their eyes out because their erp game has no difficulty what so ever.
I just want to fuck a floran
>difficulty that purely comes from constant screen-filling one-shotting enemy spam is good video game design
So this is the power of braindead fanboys
The "damage spike" exists to turn hard mode into a whole new setting, not just a snoozefest you can clear with a space set+gun all the way to Plantera. You can easily handle holiday invasions with arenas and farm all items on solo mode (building always was a major part of the game, you know), and higher tiers are meant to be cleared with online play.
And none of that is artificial difficulty, anyway.
>Grinding for days
>Terraria
It takes a Maximum of like 2 hours to get anything in Terraria and most bosses get exploited with a single item
>oh no, i have a million movement options available to me by this point and i have to make use of them, whatever will i do, this is artificial difficulty!
The absolute state of starbound cucks.
>movement options doing anything when most of the enemies at this point vomit one-shot projectiles everywhere or have mobility
>can't beat something unless you play online or autistically rebuild the entire terrain
>somehow good design
Ah sweet it's a Terraria thread disguised as a Starbound thread. You guys think Terraria otherworld will ever actually become a thing?
No.
Friendly reminder that this is what starbound fans think is non artificial difficulty
youtu.be
Skip to 8:50 to see a quality starbound boss battle. It never gets old honestly.
No
>tfw that's my robot
>tfw my friend threw molotov cocktails into the cockpit of my ship
>a drawfriend drew a comic of this too, lost it
Fuck. Still have this at least
>can clear content and get everything alone
>can optionally get more challenging tiers for fun while playing with friends
>this is bad design
Hopefully you learned something with Starbound about early access scams.
>movement options doing anything when most of the enemies at this point vomit one-shot projectiles everywhere or have mobility
Works for me.
Classic case of get good, brainlet.
>b-but muh Starbound!
If your argument is going to bubble down into deflecting onto a non-existent person then you have no real arguments. I already posted my Terraria hours you obsessed cuck.
>Works on my machine ;)
And I'm sure you totally didn't Nurse cheese and other similar strats just like everyone else did just to get through it.
You posted that you have 288 hours in the game and you're still shit lol
kys
I honestly forgot that Otherworld exists (in development hell, I mean). I wasn't really hyped for it, anyway.
>moving the goalposts even further
Get some tide pods already
>And I'm sure you totally didn't Nurse cheese and other similar strats just like everyone else did just to get through it.
Now how would I do that when the enemies '''''''''''one shot you''''''''''''?
It should say "Observant. It says you are gay."
>Terraria is still Sup Forums's autism child
This meme still hasn't died yet? Also no Starbound is shit too.
I just want a proper successor to Terraria. It's crazy that over the past, what, 7 fucking years Terraria remains the best 2D sandboxy game.
What goal post moving? That was the first thing I said. Are you having a breakdown retard?
you deflected onto starbound fans then deflected to "y-you're shit!"
Keep on filling that diaper up over your shitty 2D minecraft
It's literally worse now than it was in beta
>literally perfect
fuck off.
Removing a bunch of fun mechanics and adding a bunch of shit nobody asked for is now F U N
what the fuck, thats a starbound boss?
eye of cthulhu shits on that thing and it's the first boss in terraria
The only boss in Terraria that's actually artificial difficulty is the Moon Lord and that's only because they went out of their way to make him the most challenging boss and remove all the cheese strats. Starbound shitters only complain because youtu.be
It's too powerful, user. It tingles all of the best aspects of autism.
Starbounds gameplay is offensively bad. I still cannot get over how clunky swinging a weapon is or how bad it looks and feels.
>you deflected onto starbound fans then deflected to "y-you're shit!"
You don't know what the world deflected means you silly cunt. That was my first post and it didn't quote anybody. There was nothing to deflect. Not my fault you threw a tantrum because my video triggered you.
Its from 2014 when early access beta was JUST released. Of course it had bugs.
And dislocating your shoulder to swing a sword around 360 degrees and jump around is good gameplay? At least SB tries to make a relatively accurate swing mechanic.
>Starbound's combat is clunky and shitty
>Muh realism in a game where you fight Cthulu's brother.
Holy shit that deflecting
Not sure what was accurate about it.
The whole animation was weirdly off center.
The animation looked like it was suppose to be some kind of diagonally downwards slash (for swords) but kind of just stopped half way through the slash.
There was no weight behind swings. Each swing would start at full speed and immediately stop.
Swinging animations were like... 2-3 frames of animation and looked really bad.
>Legitimately crying about something as insignificant as how a swing animation looks
The absolute STATE of starbound cucks holy shit.
My sides have become one with the universe tbhwy.
Combat in Terraria is leagues superior and Terraria actually has enemies that not only look good, but provide a challenge in multiple unique ways because they're not all programmed to do the same fucking shit like in SB.
In all these years, has SB even added anything like the spiders in Terraria? Being able to cling to background walls and make them more resistent to knockback, then switching up to just running across the floor regularly.
Is there even a worm type enemy in Starbound yet? A clinger/maneater type enemy? Enemies like the lava slime which when destroyed leak lava onto the terrain?
Does Starbound even have a single enemy that is interesting?
If so, I'm all ears, post its picture and tell me what sets it apart from the other enemies.
What I love is that they touted how robust the monster generator would be and then you see the same three parts. It was so bad they had to add unique enemies. None of them are even particularly interesting.
>Also crafting,
It´s objectively shit.
>exploration
See above, worlds are empty, forgetable and with the same layout. Terraria at least feels geniune every new game.
>character customization
Bullshit, characters are all the same. Like in Terraria.
But here it´s worse because you have like 100000000 different weapons?
>lore building
You kidding right?
>spelunking
0/10
>role-playing
Confirmed for not playing.
And if you are serious we can talk about the 5 different quests and mechanics that all the 100000 worlds have?
I couldn't get down the progression system.
Terraria is pretty straight forward with fun bosses and cool weapons but I couldn't really wrap my head around any of that in Starbound.
It got old after like a day or so, like No Man's Sky, Terraria, The Island, and oh so many explore/craft/random games.
They have zero fucking breadth, they barely qualify as video games, they're closer to toys, and the only challenge they provide equals finding the right Lego piece in your big Lego box.
They all have great mechanics, but there lacks a game around it.
Fuck off you stupid cunt, Terraria has an absurd amount of content.
I guarantee Terraria has more things to do (and not just shallow things either)and overall depth than your favorite game.
Do Starbound servers even exist anymore? I can barely find any and the ones I do find have 1-2 people on them or less.
Because they absolutely butchered by release by wanting to cash-out asap. Sure now it's pretty good if you install about 50 mods.
I can't manage 15 fps on vanilla and I have a decent rig. I can't imagine adding any more than 3 mods.
It has bosses and a few premade colonists you can move into shitty medieval houses.
It was nice and at first it seems to offer way more than terraria
But it lacks the depth terraria has, and the bossfights. Its great, but not better
what a disapointement
if they focused on procedural generation instead of shiting into whatever garbage IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SUCH A GREAT GAME
the beta was fun the release is just sad to look at
>can only swing hammers straight forward, can't swing upwards or downwards
Yeah, accurate isn't the word I'd use for it.
Almost forgot i had this game (bought 6-7 years ago)
need a quick rundown of what they added in the last5 years ASAP
so, i remember playing 2 versions:
the first, (i guess both beta) was kinda like a space version of terraria, but it lacked waaaaaaay more depth than terraria, it was just
>mine x mineral, farm y pixels
>fight boss
>move to next planet class
>repeat
Then they added that kind of "space station", quests and a kind of a story, even if it was unfinished too.
So... has it got better?
Is it worth playing now or is still unfinished terraria-lite in spaceand shiet?
They then added story mode. I recommend playing it just to experience the truly breathtaking writing it has.
eh i had fun playing it despite being disapointed
I gave up on Starbound after I realized I had unintentionally crafted the best armor and weapons in the game after just a few hours and visiting a handful of planets. The only redeeming thing now is lewd mods.
Almost nothing changed since the last time you played it, except for mods. If you have it, try to install FrackinUniverse and other shit you might want.
If you never wasted your cash on this scam, just avoid it and never look back.
>lewd mods
which ones senpai?
Mostly right. Starbound does beat Terraria when it comes to vanity, but that's mainly due to how the character bodies are designed compared to Terraria.
Starbound is so bad it isn't even funny. The bosses are boring as shit and reminiscent of soulless AAA trash. The complete lack of content is unforgivable. The progression is boring. Mods aren't even good.
Terraria is better in every way.
Sexbound, still in its infancy but has potential. The guy who made it has done a few other lewd mods too. Check LoversLab.
Actual high impact sexual violence mods or just the old shit like pixel nipples and a plant girl's nectar extractor?
PvE is boring and basic as fuck.
/thread
>removed content tag on the wiki was deleted
The only fun part about the game is building, it has no things to do, missions are boring as fuck, npc "tasks" are just fetch quests, the various planets are interesting but there's no incentive to visit them other than one specific resource you might need for your next mission, there's nothing to do.
Even when you play with friends, it's boring.
Terraria actually has content, it's more engaging, you have a reason to go on, bossfights are amazing. It's a lightyear ahead of starbound, and it's getting a sequel which is great.
>Neither have particularly good customization.
Wouldn't this also include vanity and armor? If so, Starbound does take it over Terraria though it's mainly due to how the body bases are designed meaning there is more room for detail on vanity.
