I mean I don't want to start a shit storm and this is only my experience but irl the main people who play it are PS4 owners who obviously don't have a choice, followed by Xbox/toaster owners who can't put up with bad performance followed by people too tight to spend money. The amount of people with a high end pc who play it seems to be absolutely minimal

I know someone in my house is in a squad of four and I've asked him why he doesn't try pubg and he clearly told me he thinks it looks better but he doesn't want to spend money.

Look carefully at the playerbase distribution, it's almost 70% China. If you get a decent item drop in PUBG you can sell that off for a shitload of Yuans on Steam's community market as well as Chinese reseller sites, which function similarly to old TF2 trading sites where you can exchange in-game items for paypal and such. What this means for a Chinese teen is that they can go down to an internet cafe and play a $30USD game all day every day and basically make as much as $30,000USD doing way less work than is normal for the average Chinese citizen, especially considering that even something as low as 30k is enough to qualify as upper economic class in their country. Why be a suicidal laborer or office lackey when you can just play video games and make money off it.
This is why you see so many Chinese players, they're not just playing the game they're living off of it. It's also why you see so many Chinese hackers that don't hesitate to turn on non-Chinese players on their team, it's much easier to grind out the items if you can easily plow through matches without worrying about setbacks.
