Play Yakuza 6 Demo

>play Yakuza 6 Demo
>fight one guy, then watch 45 minutes of cutscenes (possibly more, they're still fucking going)
>Kiryu looks younger than in some of the older games, despite being in his late 40s
>Akiyama's hair is weirdly dark
>even the cutscenes perform terribly, at times dropping to below 20 FPS
>on PS4 Pro, at 1080p
Tell me they sorted this shit out for the full version. I bought a PS4 Pro for the new Yakuza games when I heard about the tearing issues on original PS4. I knew we wouldn't get 60 FPS for the Dragon Engine games, but surely they can do fucking 30.

We had a couple guys chime in months ago saying the base game did get performance patches, but for Pros you should only really be getting drops during karaoke if at all last I recall. I personally never had any framedrops during the demo but I also skipped all the cutscnes because why watch them when it's getting localized anyway?

>Yakuza games
>Dude glorified thugs and bullies are totes honourably epic my man xD

That's some relief. Good point with the cutscenes, wanted to have a look at the new engine though. Probably a waste of time when the English demo hits in 10 days, but oh well.

Obviously meant for

Check out Kiwami 2's if you want as well, it runs slightly smoother than 6 with a pro and feels nicer, plus it lets you see how a mid-game Kiryu feels like in the new engine since 6's demo just lets you bump up stats and nothing more (I.E. no combo extensions, no combo speed increases, no Tiger Drop, etc) whereas Kiwami 2 starts you off with some of them. On another note Pros on 6 also have almost instant loading when it comes to fights, I remember people here were complaining you'd stand around for like five seconds before a fight started and I had no idea what they were talking about since they were pretty much instant, so that's another benefit of the Pro.

>stand around for like five seconds before a fight started
That summons fond memories of Yakuza 3.

quit being a cry baby bitch because you got bullied at school nerd

>Dude I watched one japanese film that means all yakuza are honourable and do no wrong dude
>The yakuza are anything more than idiotic thugs
burgers need to leave

>assumes i'm a burger from a single post
this is why you got bullied my dude

>Implying you aren't
Only burgers defend the retards known as yakuza

when did i defend them my dude?

You sperged out because someone told the truth about your precious yakuza

>sperged out
i called you a cry baby my dude which you are

>Being this retarded

damn you're right i now see the errors of my way

Explain how the yakuza aren't simply thugs, inb4 le epic family system and le epic suits

explain to me how you don't understand that i'm not defending them i'm just calling you a bitch you dumb bitch

But you're the only bitch here you double bitch

>Yakuza 6 has a cat café
>doesn't have a catgirl café

i'm fine with being a double bitch if you admit you're a dumb bitch

I bet you're australian you fucking shitposter
I know because I shitpost to that capacity myself

quit changing my nationality i'm really
british

the fight loading problem is even fucking worse in kiwami 2 since they changed the start of fights so you can't actually start fighting until after the title card goes away.

>Have to wait a few seconds
>Burgers are this impatient

Are you an autist? There is literally nothing wrong here, the fight starting notice appears, it fades away quickly and the fight immediately starts. You should really see a doctor if this scenario is bothering you because it's not normal. Fuck sake

>two walking speeds
>super slow and super fast with limited stamina
Goddamn, walking around the city feels so weird now.

what a fun fight

>Be shit at the game
>It's not me!!!!
Everytime

you ever heard of the dodge button my man?

I'm sure this one was my fault as well

you see the prompt on the screen
HIT IT

>American gamers

It was, fucking hang yourself already.

and this one?

Lightsaber phase was the same in 2 from a technical point, you couldn't block it because it was basically a taser and it hit you like a truck, it's just that the damage and speed is much faster in Kiwami 2. Does he still have the VR tonfa phase and the gun phase? Because both of those were much more manageable by comparison.

the beam clearly hit you so yeah still your fault for getting hit by it

>trying to block a lightsaber with a katana
are you retarded user?

the salesman told me it was a vibro katana

nah he goes:
>normal sword
>blue lightsaber
>orange lightsaber
>blue and orange lightsaber
>blue and orange lightsaber but with a shield that makes him take barely any damage
the single orange lightsaber is the most dangerous phase since he can kill you in one combo from full health, he's actually less dangerous in the final phase

At least the lightsaber tonfas are back. Even the animation is a bit like his old spin.

he's got this spin move now. It'll probably never hit you in the fight with him but it's pretty damn good in clan creator

Did Amon just come home from a Star Wars LARP or something? He's moments from screaming about unlimited power after that move.

How is the fightan in 6?

Opinion here is based off both demos but it's okay, the older games feel more responsive and every move feels like you're punching through some dense air to reach anything. Enemies can block you mid-combo and it's incredibly annoying, but there's also some positives like ground attacks being incredibly easy to do instead of needing to stand directly over someone and stomp at them, you can even do it while running instead of going into a dropkick. Combos are also kept even if you get hit or blocked mid-attack, so while in the older games if you got hit your combo would reset back to the start (So if you were doing Kiryu's square x4 + triangle combo and got hit but pressed triangle again you wouldn't do the overhead drop kick) in 6 and Kiwami 2 if you get hit it still allows you to continue off of that combo which I thought was great since the kicks are super wide now and work very well for AoE instead of needing a bike. Heat actions feel like they have a lot more "oomph" in them which I really appreciate, the only thing I don't know is if when you reach endgame swaying feels better since in the demos it feels very sluggish and slow compared to the older games.

Overall it's fun from the demos at the very least, it's just going to take some getting used to since it definitely feels a bit stranger from the older games.

>finally I get to learn new moves from the old bum
>"fight this guy"
>locked in the shitty dragon style while hannya-man uses superior mobile rush style
>can't even get out of calm mode because for some reason my heat bar won't increase except for the first long bar
>"Amazing, didn't think you could do it"
Yeah, thanks for that shitty, boring fight, you bum.

>because for some reason my heat bar won't increase except for the first long bar
That's because you didn't fight Majima enough. Unlocking Heat properly is like rank D or C. You need to fight Majima if you want DoD to be good, and once it is you can Tiger Drop the shit out of everyone. Komaki's missions are also the best part of DoD just for his lines alone.

>That's because you didn't fight Majima enough.
I'm looking for that faggot. At least the fight gave me a huge boost and it looks like it's full now (currently I'm on rank E)

When the bar is completely full you need to wander around and Nishida will give you a call telling you where to go. Max you can get him before chapter 6 was C I think, chapter 8 lets you get him to either B or A, and then chapter 10 lets you go the rest of the way. Any e-mails you get from Nishida are basically riddles where a special Majima encounter will be and if he's resting at the park (I.E. You've gotten him to the max he can be for the chapters you are in) you can't do them until he's active again.

Also, make use of the Majima Sensor ability when you're calm (Without the Heat bar reaching the first bar), if you hear "Kiryu-chan" and your map doesn't show him at all that means any of his designated special areas will spawn him like in the webm. If he shows up on the map then you're safe to run around wherever you want.

>That summons fond memories of Yakuza 3.
You mean Yakuza 4?
youtube.com/watch?v=orNJ4hNh4uA
Try 13 seconds for Yakuza 3.

What are you talking about?
The Yakuza franchise has constantly made a point that most if not all Yakuza (with very few exceptions) are greedy, money hungry thugs.

The honourable and decent peoeple in the franchise tend to be the player characters that aren't even in the Yakuza.

6 sucks meme is something I don't follow. I was getting pretty sick of the old style by Kiwami

BTW I hate the facial animations in Kiwami 1&2 for the redone cutscenes.

6's UI looks like such complete garbage, how did this happen?

I'm probably not even going to play it unless it's at the bottom of the bargain bin, had the story spoiled to me and I simply don't want to witness this shitfest of a Kiryu "sendoff" for myself after 0 was so good.

I find it funny during the entire Komaki Parry teaching Komaki is like "You don't understand, this will allow you to use your ultimate ability, the Tiger Drop is not as powerful" and then like ten seconds later you can just do this to him to prove a point.

Mach Bowl is now some sort of gym? The fuck?

>clearly doing a long attack
>hurr i'll just fucking attack him again.

Jesus Christ user. Stop embarrassing yourself.

...

Huh, I never knew there was a spin off Yakuza game for the PSP. Why is the soundtrack so good?

>make prequel
>can do interesting shit with your hcaracters
>expect kiryu to be a proper bad boy
>kiryu is still 50 year old kiryu in 0
>expect majima to snap and kill someone (the chink assassin and sagawa)
>dude i'm just gonna act retarded because i liked these guys
>we're good friends tho sagawa even if you fucked my life up
>i'm gonna cuck myself
One thing I liked storywise was how characters from 1 got more screentime so that's a positive.

>>Kiryu looks younger than in some of the older games, despite being in his late 40s

He's asian, they age backwards.

Who cares, the heat moves are sick and the mini games are fun

>WTF? Japanese devs don't want to be found dead in a back alley?
>Fucking yakuza glorifiers

The demo is just the jap demo which is an old pre-release build, but localized. The main game is significantly better performing. I don't know why the jap trend is to make the demo a shit, unpolished bit of game that runs worse than the real deal instead of the other way around.

t. Didn't understand Sagawa's character

Why is it so fun to make Kiryu lose in Pocket Circuit?

Yakuza movies have been doing this for 60 years, bro.

I look forward to that. Fuck the postponed release though.

>Why is it fun to break someone's heart and spirit?
Way to go you monster

>he's just doing his job bro that totally makes up for it

how to access demo on ps4? can't find it in the store

>make Hong Kong account with fake details
>type in "Ryu" in the PSN Store search
>find and download Chinese language demo

Alternatively
>wait 10 days for the English language version

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the Kiwami 2 demo is also available on Japanese PSN (haven't checked Hong Kong). You'd have to search with Kanji, but fortunately, K2 is plastered all over the front page, so you don't have to fuck with the PS4 keyboard. Kiwami 2's demo felt a little more complete, but that might just be because I played that one first.

I wonder what a real Yakuza would think about this franchise

boingboing.net/2010/08/10/yakuza-3-review.html
might very well be fake since
>jake adelstein
but still

He's in the same shitty situation as Majima, they both got screwed. Only difference is Sagawa died in the end for it.

Mayumi sure is pretty. Wonder how they fucked up the hostesses so bad in Kiwami 2.

Bump for video games thread.

How did they get their shit together to write a good story for 0, then fall right back into shitty melodrama with 6?
In terms of story, it goes 0>=1>2>>> for me.

You don't like melodrama, but 5 is right around the middle? It should be last, then.

Kiryu has looked sort of off in every game from 3 onwards, they keep making adjustments to his model but he never doesn't look weird in my opinion.

Western title is misleading, you almost never play as an active yakuza and most yakuza you come across are bloodthirsy dumbfucks too.

>dumbfucks
Don't you mean dumbshit, Kuze no aniki?

0 doesn't have a great story either, it just doesn't have a specific point where it goes completely bonkers I think. I honestly think that 5's story had higher highs and lower lows than 0, but 0's story was a lot more consistent in quality.

My dislike for that is the reason for the enormous power gap.
The distinction between the PS3 games is minimal, but 5 had decent moment-to-moment stuff and intrigue, at least early on.
But for me it's a night and day difference.
I can see where you're coming from.
Honestly if I had focused more on the story in 5, then 0 wouldn't have blindsided me by how much I enjoyed it.

From everything I've heard 6 seems to undo all the improvements they've made in this department.

Can't recall a game where the story has been great. Some entries have appealing characters though, and 0 has quite a few.

Kiryu's chapter in 5 was fantastic but stuff after it was such a buzzkill. Shinada's chapter had fun characters but his plot barely had anything to do with the rest of the game, I don't get why they didn't just make Daigo playable for that part.
