I love mmoprpgs, like many I was addicted to one of them (archlord, a shitty grindy game that I loved), lost many hours and wasted about 3 or 4 years of my life wich I regret. But I would like to find a new mmo to play, that hooks me like archlord did. My current options are: >GW2 >BDO >WoW >ESO >LotRO (because I love lord of the rings)
>dekaron Sure miss those times PKing people with dual wield.
Hudson Anderson
FFXIV is your only option
Jackson Mitchell
>WoW No. >ESO I hear it's good fun, but I don't want to play it simply because I don't support what they've done to TES. >LotRO I played it a bit a couple of years ago. It's fun, and people seemed friendly.
I want to recommend Ragnarök Online, but I don't know if I really should, since you wouldn't experience the magic that once was.
Ian Evans
Okay listen, OP. I've never heard of archlord, but if there are any servers of it (official or private), I suggest you simply go back and play that. I was in the same boat as you, trying to relive those glorious years and fond memories of friendships and adventuring, but my game was ragnarok. I tried so many other mmos with better graphics, and newer, fancier combat systems only to realize that nothing is ever going to replace the feeling I get when I played Ragnarok. The closest thing I can have to that is just simply playing ragnarok again.
Ryan James
GW2 is fun for a while. The PvP and WvW stuff is pretty fun. Fractals are also really neat. BDO is insanely grindy and just not really that fun. plus customization is awful. too many cash shops. WoW is okay. Legion was really fun. Excited for BfA ESO is a very neat concept and i wish i could get into it, but something just draws me out of it. LotRO was fun for a f2p game for a little bit.
Wyatt Allen
lost ark
Gavin Turner
>GW2 pve gets boring quick. pvp is alright except balance is usually fucked up
>WoW Don’t. The game is still the solo, silent affair it became when they implemented cross-realms
>ESO A lot better than it used to be. It’s the opposite of gw2 imo
>LOTRO I’m currently playing this right now. The community on Landroval is super nice and dedicated (they make their own newspaper on the forums, have music concerts, and hold classes in-game on how to play classes and roles).
Charles Butler
Youre right, what most of us seek is the same feeling of that first mmo. There are currently private servers (the game is dead) but is not the same, just less than 100 people, shit, maybe less than 25, running around. If the game ever relaunches (like many old mmorpgs are) again I would certainly play it again.
Is that game alive? I though it died some time ago.
I really want to give lotro a chance, is it balanced? grindy? cash shop dependant?
Andrew Brown
lets play a shitty f2p mmo together and make /mmog/ again
Zachary Ward
FFXIV for themepark EVE for sandbox
and maybe OSRS
only mmos worth playing
Isaac Davis
Memepark MMOs are trash though.
Owen Smith
WoW for lots of mediocre content FFXIV for little but good content ESO, GW2, SWTOR and Wildstar for dead content.
Asher Moore
I actually rolled on lotro earlier tonight and have been playing it. having fun surprisingly! But now I wish I rolled on Landroval instead of Crickhollow. :(
Lincoln Harris
is lotro still f2p with no content if you don't pay?
Carter Harris
Balance is good. Just so you know the only actual pvp in the game is a weird mode where you play as a monster. It can get pretty grindy because alongside quests there’s a deed book that amounts to “kill x or do y enough times for a reward!” Sometimes the reward is meh like a title, sometimes it rewards you a skill, trait (passive bonus you can equip), or cash shop currency.
Speaking of the cash shop, that’s where things get a bit shitty. So aside from expansions, you will eventually need to get quest packs or you’ll run out of things to do after like the first 40 or so levels. Since you can earn the currency ingame, there’s guides on how to game the system but it does require grinding.
Jeremiah Barnes
GW2 is the worst of the bunch and not even an MMO, the dungeons are a joke, the main story is somehow even worse than the FFXIV story, the combat is basically mashing your buttons as they light up, all the classes play the same but there is no balance, PvE content is nonexistant, PvP is unbalanced and there is still no Guild Versus Guild in a name called Guild Wars, their economic model is basically releasing overpriced story packs with no content every year or so, and making you buy part of the story if you weren't online when it was going on, they totally missed the mark when it comes to progression by introducing boring ascended and legendary garbage, all of the good looking gear is cash shop exclusive, leveling is a chore and is the most repetitive mind numbing shit I have ever seen in a game. Avoid.
Thomas Rodriguez
Really? Ive heard some things about that but I thought it was just a game mode. So no GvG, faction wars, or PKing?
Aaron Davis
>GW2 GW2 is fun to dick around with friends, but the endgame is a joke. I like the failure states in questing, great for coop fun.
>ESO Decent single player, dont believe the memes once Orsinium hit the lore actually got pretty good, better than the post morrowind todd howard fests anyway. Clockwork City went full Morrowind Sci Fi. Playing with friends is a bit shit tho because the game is so easy. Endgame and Dungeons are fun tho, the trinity works well in the game, doesnt try too much new but its fun. PvP is the same as in GW2 but competent and without any of the strange frills attached. Combat is still too floaty, but character builds are very fun with the very varied set boni that do a lot of different things.
Colton Brooks
Nope
Jayden Rivera
/mmog/ doesn't exist because of an autist that made a bot that spams it everytime it's created
Charles Gray
Just play Path of Exile
You can do everything yourself, play in a party with others, interact with other people, all the same shit MMOs can do except you aren't reliant on other people or a guild at all and you can just solo everything if you feel like it
Cameron Hall
is the bot still working? been a long time since /mmog/ died
Henry Foster
BDO of course
Samuel Evans
Problem with ESO is you need to sub or fork over like $30+ dollars + the game to access DLC that was released for it. That's not counting the expansion because Zenimax is basically going with that Secret World model of charging for content updates as DLC.
Cameron Moore
it was the last time people tried to remake /mmog/
what's even worse is /mmog/ only died because of attention seeking furries on /gw2g/ where the bot originated, after /gw2g/ gave up dealing with the bot they tried migrating to /mmog/ and killed two generals in the process
Benjamin Reyes
>game for $5 >need a $20 pet to not suck
Whoo whee.
Kevin Green
A WHOLE $25? Outrageous, better get that $40 FFXIV
>Tfw 8 pets of various tiers and never dropped a cent, they are given like candy at every event
Noah Richardson
you get a pet for free now
Jackson Gomez
just for buying the game?
Jaxson Morris
well you can pay the sub once and just play through all of the DLCs its not like they are required for most of the content, relay it smostly the single player stuff to play through
Hudson Myers
There you go, my pets plus one other free pet coming up in my daily logins rewards Never spent a dime on the game
Cooper Peterson
Really? I guess I might check the game out then. I was wary because I don't like hidden costs for games I actually buy upfront.
Blake Evans
but isnt that game instanced? like D3? I preffer open world games tho
Joseph Jackson
Well, pet events come and go, I've been playing for a while. But you're sure to get at least 2 pets immediatly in your daily rewards. Plus you can also buy them off the ingame market, but you gotta be lucky to win at the lottery. Got my coolest one that way.
Xavier Taylor
Not to be that guy who goes "NUH UH" but have you heard they're basically turning WvW into GvG? Guild Wars finally has Guild Wars.
Ian Perez
it's only been like 6 years lmao
Jason Ward
thank god for that user. mmog and gw2g were disgusting even for v/vg standards.
William Phillips
/gw2g/ was, /mmog/ wasn't really bad in comparison to /terag/ and /xivg/
Leo Morgan
xiv is like $20 on sale retard
Julian Gomez
You don't get them that easily. That guy has played for a long time. After a month or two you will be lucky to have two pets. And you will need a lot more than just two T1's to feel like more than a subhuman free player while grinding. They do not circulate on the marketplace enough for you to have a chance at winning ever, either. You will spend money. If you don't, you will quit.
Adrian Hall
Eso has trash combat and is incredibly slow but voiceacting and quests themselves are p great. Gw2 has a huge world with tons of shit to do and combat can get really intense towards the end but the story is utter garbage with shit tier reddit humor.unbearable levels of shit tier writing. Wow is archaic. Cant say much abou the other two games
James Cruz
Can't get any shittier than Dark Ages
Dominic Lee
>>GW2 >>BDO >>WoW >>ESO >>LotRO (because I love lord of the rings) all shit

they're bringing this back?

>calls everything shit but does not offer anything else.

There’s a great MMO called “real life”
Billions of players. Game map the size of several continents. Graphics are amazing. Intricate job system with some decent rewards for skilled players. Constant updates from the developers (currently working on a system that lets you switch your toon’s gender, but the results aren’t that great yet.) It’s a little hardcore though. You have little control over how your toon starts out, and if you die your guildies get all of your shit and your banned from the game forever.
Juan Jenkins
this is eu how is the usa redfox rf server?
Wyatt Richardson
>WoW Well actually you got a few options when it comes to WoW with the power of Private servers
You can pick from Lights hope (Vanilla), Dalaran WoW(Wrath), Hades-WoW(Cataclysm), and Retail. Dont let anyone else tell you there are other options
Justin Kelly
>real life meme on a gaming board come on man
Carson Russell
I find it quite funny that games which pioneered the pay to win mechanics, actually made you spend tons of money for mild advantages which themselves were hard to come by (rng based gear upgrades), I mean in the extremes of a poor skilled player clashing against a wallet wariior, the outcome would always favor skill.
All the while, modern games which are "totally not p2w" tend to bring elements that are truthfully balance breaking. Korean grinders of old had an anarchical darwinism to them, it rewarded rich fags aplenty but it never closed them on a unreachable niche but games that aren't p2w actually do just that.
ironic really.
Joseph Cruz
>want to play an mmo but I don't know which one
help
Xavier Diaz
Oh idk user you might wanna look for that on your own
Hunter Foster
>There’s a great MMO called “real life”
Christian James
everytime I see an official statement from a game dev explicitly saying that their isn't p2w I default to a orwellian interpretation of blatant double speak.
If they say it isn't, it is, if they don't mention it, it probably is but at least there's a chance they aren't.
Joseph Carter
Pottery
Joshua Hughes
I just want to play Atlantica back when there aren't 20 p2w cash-only mercenaries.
Sebastian Barnes
>everytime >everytime
our game only has cosmetics user. not a single thing in our cash shop is required for you play the game to its fullest extent. >5 starter inventory slots. >you can upgrade it to 10 when you reach max level >bonus points if there's a soft level cap ()
Adam Walker
I play a lot of MMOs too. Based on my experience... >GW2 9/10 Solid, and my current time sink right now. I have 1600 hours in. Combat is excellent (which is important to me because i love pvp), graphics are good but dont require a 1080ti to run. Probably the nicest community of any game ive ever played. Good population, i dont see it dying any time soon. >BDO 7/10 Played on and off since beta. I liked it but i havent revisited since they introduced battlegrounds. The problem is you will always look like the same pleb unless you spend real money, and the game is heavily gear based. Skill will trump gear sometimes but for equal skill levels gear ALWAYS wins. Its a little grindy but i dont mind that, and it sounds like you dont either. Good population. >WoW 8/10 (if you play on a private server) I dont play WoW on retail because i refuse to pay monthly for a game that i bought that also has a cash shop. Thats a business practice that nobody should support. Moral issues aside, its a solid game. Plenty of content, excellent combat, the only mmo where the trinity system ever worked properly. Im not a fan of the art style otherwise it would have gotten 9/10. Class balance is a little bit Rock Paper Scissors, but its nice to not have one class to rule them all imo. Good population. >ESO 5/10 I wanted to like this one. I really did. To be fair it had the best leveling experience of the MMOs listed. It played like an elder scrolls game. The problem is the combat. With very few options on the skill bar and no cooldowns i felt like there was less room for skill. The skill ceiling was low and battles came down to luck(not RNG really but accidental perfect timing of things). The combat SUCKED, nothing felt impactful and 1v1 just feels like you and another guy just wailing on eachother and healing until someone runs out of mana/hp. No counterplay at all when compared to other MMOs. Fairly low population on PC. >LotRO Never played it.
Nolan Lewis
>Combat is excellent Tell me your secret i tried gw2 two time once with a mesmer and then with engineer but all i got was skills spamming and on overall a very bland experience.
Chase James
>Combat is excellent (which is important to me because i love pvp) lol
Great game nigger. GW2 has trash PvP in both WvW and sPvP.
Connor Evans
Bless online >bad combat >laughably bad story telling >world feels empty in some parts >unoptomized as fuck But you can play as a furry wolf/cat girl so i give it a solid 10/10
Joshua Sanders
>mfw still waiting for Lost Ark

>tfw we will never get a remade version of one of the most unique MMORPGS to ever be made
How come I never hear anyone talking about phantasy star online 2 when talking about mmos? Is it dead, shit or does no one here care enough to get past the bullshit needed to play it?
Levi Watson
You're literally not talking about combat, though.
Chase Davis
>>bad combat
why? it looks like a generic action/combo style combat. Nothing groundbreaking but doen't look bad either
Liam Miller
>Atlantica Online
Holy fuck, that game. Kinda weird the only other turn-based MMORPG with a party I've played was Pirate 101.
Lucas Turner
oh man i fucking LOVED Archlord. tried it out because it was a free alternative to Burning Crusade. played a Knight on the Human side and was so pissed that literally every other class kicked more ass than me (especially the archer class). the game was unbalanced as fuck but so much fun
pvp was a blast too and i especially liked the bounty system
Brayden Bell
>Constant updates from the developers Fucking bullshit. Developers are assholes that made a buggy piece of shit game (What the fuck is this dumb cancer shit? Why is there such immense variation in the starting skills of players? Some literally start with below 0 int.) and abandoned it halfway and now all we have are shitty jewish community modders that charge out the ass for what should have been in the game in the first place.
Sebastian Johnson
I'm playing it as we speak. Been a very positive surprise in every way since I started a few months back.
I'm just lazy about trying to shill whatever it is I'm currently playing.
Nathaniel Thomas
It was way back before rebuild. The international version sounds weird in terms of combat. To me it sounds like they SUPPOSEDLY want players to be able to choose between action, tab target or a mix anytime they want with different skills.
Ethan Hernandez
>when you and your robot bros siege the shit out of faggy space elf wizards
i miss that game
Jackson Watson
That is the combat dumb-dumb. That you get a second chance at all and can pelt some schmuck while they have to commit to a cast timer in the middle of a fight is fucking retarded. And if that person dies everyone within a square mile is revived from downed state, great! Attrition!
Rallying is a contrived mechanic when they could just extend player survivability and not be so reliant on immunities.
Connor Miller
There was this mmo game called Rift at some point. Played the fuck out of it, but in the end it was a p2w game and that wasn't cool.
I wonder if it's still up.
Kevin Mitchell
I'm pretty sad the concept of turn based combat system MMOs didn't gain any traction the past decade. I remember that shitty IGG game Wonderland Online. Decent gameplay but so fucking grindy it had a built in bot so you could afk farm and level
Caleb Peterson
...
Brandon Lopez
>get back into pso2 >ruin my weapon >no way to fix it >stop playing fun while it lasted tho
Henry Robinson
Yeah, they're planning a sub only server with no cash shop apparently. There will always be an audience that wants these slower and traditional tab-targeting MMORPGs.
Julian Taylor
How and what weapon? I highly doubt your weapon was relevant anymore anyway if you were gone long.
Angel Taylor
pso2 isn't a mmo. it's a lobby based action rpg. everything is instanced and there's no persistent world zone.
John Ramirez
Because everyone just got locked down into a mold. MMO is just technology you can apply however.
Brody Wood
i was playing a gunner and i was using an out of date weapon but it looked like a mini gun so i wanted it, was trying to upgrade its special bonus to that spray and pray skill and fucked it style > stats my dude
Oliver Hughes
Just like every other MMO nowadays. On paper, they have an open world, but in reality no one uses it for anything because all the games revolve around sitting in the capital and pressing a button to join instanced content.
Samuel Carter
lol only 4 years wasted fuking pleb
if you've never played WoW i'd say give it a shot to understand what the hype was about as much as people shit on it, it's still a bretty good mmo with a ton of shit to do
Nathaniel Thompson
>always liked the idea of mmos >but when it came down to it couldn't stand the grindy gameplay that focused on stat min maxing, boring abilities that rely on cooldowns instead of skillful use, inability to manually dodge attacks, etc. >also can't make friends for shit It's like my interests were specifically crafted by god to make me as unhappy as possible
Matthew Hill
Maybe classic wow when if releases. Definitely not current WoW
Gavin Anderson
Hey OP, I'm looking for a MMORPG too.
Right now, I subbed to WoW again after Pandas. It's still the same formula but made easier and PvP is dead because e-sport + mobile games migrants (aka casuals). You'll get angry tells if you kill someone in the open world.
I tried GW2 but got bored after a week, didn't reach the level cap. Nothing's every happening. It's pretty but zones feel empty. Jumping quests are cool.
I'm looking for PvP mostly but cool grinds too. Something like improved Runescape meets WoW. Maybe talking to players, modern games could replace other players with bots (like FF14), but then they could tax us with monthly fees.
Owen Brooks
Classic wow when it comes out OP. Until then maybe rift prime but otherwise the genre is shit.
Julian Rogers
mmog was so full of salt and arsepain, and the worst of every community in one single thread, like all the rejects that couldn't have their own thread, fueled by hatred for anything new or different to their taste, with horrible tripfags filled with nostalgia shitting on literally anything they can.
That and the rog circlejerk, holy fuck I'm glad I'm free from those. I'm just waiting for /blessg/ hoping this time it won't be fucked up, It will be fucked up.
Kayden King
I don't know how this could be achieved, but mmos need to be more like D&D. Not make everything about being max level and having top gear and top enchants and dealing the most damage out of the server against 500 clones of you idling in the main city waiting for lockouts to farm some tribial upgrade because there's nothing else to do.
In D&D you can be fucking lvl 5 and have a ton of fun adventuring, at level10 you have more shit and stll have fun, at lvl 15, 20... you get my point. IF only there was a way were low level shitters still mattered, and being max level and max geared wasn't all that. I think the formula has gone stale beyond belief but one is doing anything to enhance the leveling experience, it's all rush to max leave 90% of the world content to never be touched again unless you're leveling an alt.
