Blocking is your friend. It's not like Souls where you can either mostly block or mostly roll. You should be doing both. For example when Onryoki throws his ball around on the chain you can block it easily.
Get the living water skills ASAP.
Don't ignore armor stat requirements
Diminishing returns for stats don't exist
Katana is best weapon. Don't bother with a secondary.
>Diminishing returns for stats don't exist
But they exist
Also OP, you better have learned how to ki pulse
SPEAR, SPEAR, SPEAR. Spear is the best weapon, no exceptions.
>middle-speed attacks = not too much weird input buffering (see: sword) and not too much tanking (see: axe)
>long reach + running attack = perfectly cheeses every human enemy that gets hitstun
>Katana is best weapon. Don't bother with a secondary.
>Diminishing returns for stats don't exist
This man is actually fucking crazy. Don't listen OP.
Unlock the ability to Ki pulse on dodge asap. It gives you more freedom to stick and move without sacrificing too much stamina.
>Diminishing returns for stats don't exist
This is wrong. DR exists but it doesn't hit anywhere near as hard and fast as it does in Souls games. DRs on stats in Nioh are very, very gradual.
>Katana is best weapon. Don't bother with a secondary.
OP should absolutely learn to use more than just the single katana because all of the weapons are great and having a back-up weapon for different situations is a smart thing to do.
I'm talking about middle stance, of course. You need LITERALLY nothing else to beat the game with ease.
>telling others how to play.
Faggots like you should be lined up and shot on the fucking streets.
OP here. I've been using axe/wooden hammer mostly, and katana as a secondary. Ki pulse was easy to learn and practice. What should most of my points be going into? I'm still early enough in the game to where i can just re-roll i guess
the game tells you exactly which stats scale with which weapon types. besides that, you can't go wrong with health and stamina as usual. pretend ninjutsu is not even there.
If you're planning on sticking with the axe weapons then you'll want to be sticking points into STR primarily. Weapons generally scale with 3 different stats including the primary so it's wise to put points into the secondary scaling stats (which for axes I think are strength, stamina and something else?) but don't be afraid to dump points into other stats too. ALL stats are extremely useful no matter your build.
How about you read the fucking tooltips in the game and use your fucking head for 2 seconds. You know, actually play the fucking game.
If you get hit once, block. Do not attempt to roll, you will most likely get stunlocked. This applies for the game in general.
The sloth talisman makes 99% of the game easy. Use it if you wish.
Play around with the different weapons so you can at least use them to get some skil points. Speaking of which, in region two I think or three, get 10 dex and 10 magic to get the mission in the dojo to unlock more ninjia and omynyo stuff.
Weapons and armour skills don't matter before ng+ just go for highest attack and defense. Exception being if you want to go ninja throwing stuff, then the set from way of the ninja: Adept is nice.
Other than that, go nuts, have fun. It's a kinda easy game at times but hard at others.
Oh and this is useful too:

You can for te most part alway reroll. I make it a habit to sell stuff every mission that I'm not using.
Get all of the passives for the weapons - they affect all weapons, even if it doesn't seem like they will but some of the more costly ones don't matter early on.
>I've been using axe/wooden hammer mostly, and katana as a secondary
Respec to spear, retard.
I will admit spear does do really well against more than a few enemies at once.
That group of enemies outside the house with the demon in it in mission one would always fuck me until mid spear + light attack = kek
dash into him when he attacks.
Spear is almost TOO good. If you actually want to learn the game and have some fun, run Kurasigama.
What if I just want to throw ninja stuff?
When do I get to do that since right now, they do less damage than a full combo of a katana which is annoying.
Ignore the shuriken and scroll down to the bombs.
kunai is pretty good too. you can kill trash mob enimies with 4-5 of them.
Just do your dojo missions as they appear to unlock the rest of the skill tree.
If you want to be a ninja, go play Ultimate Ninja Storm.
This game is about being a SAMURAI. Being a ninja or a mage is only a secondary concern.
You're pretty aggressive kiddo, don't you got some ants to burn?
But the problem is, they all run out far, far too fast.
I mean yes, I can get to level 30 and have the stats to kill a regular NPC with 3-4 kunai but I only get like 12 kuni is the issue.
Bombs are much better but have even less of them

This and the next mission are the biggest curves in the game. You'll get better after that though.
If you can't ki pulse well
Then you're fucked
>80gb install
what the fuck, this shit better not be another lock on and strafe souls
any huge faggots wanna do coop?
Low stance is fucking shit, never use it.
the people who play it that way generally do not enjoy themselves
it's an action game where the rpg components are limited to the stat and gear system
Dual Blades is very strong, but sucks ass early on until you get the later skills for it. Early on the Spear and Katana are good, but use whatever feels best.
The Sloth Talisman is OP as all fuck. It seriously trivializes everything *including* bosses.
Hit things until they die.
Preferably with an Odachi.
