This game did what Automata tried to do. Automata is just animeshit trying to be deep compared to Soma.

Apply yourself.
Both are shit games that none played
SOMA was great, it's just a shame it failed to live up to the horror gameplay experiences we have come to expect from the studio. I still enjoyed the story it told and it had an impact on me for awhile.
and I don't have to waste my time finishing Soma five times to get the whole story
Robin best girl coming through
lol
SOMA would have been better if you didnt have a woman spouting exposition and goals on you for 90% of the game so that you never feel alone and if Simon wasnt retarded
Also the gameplay aspect was actually harder and more annoying than in Amnesia while being less scary. The only good puzzle was when you had to create the simulation with limited memory
I got bored of both and never finished either. Ironically, Soma I think had better gameplay then Automata, simple because Automata actively pissed all over character action genre.
SOMA is a gem. It's a shame it wasn't a good horror game gameplay wise
I think it helped the atmosphere a LOT that all you can do is running away or sneak around. It was pretty refreshing to see a horror game that mostly lives from its setting and exploring.
To be fair, the horror part was maybe the worst part of the game. I remember playing this game at launch, and finding it good but a bit tedious. And I replayed it like a year ago, with basically a god mode making me invisible to ennemies, and it was perfect as an abyss walking simulator.
refreshing? Every modern horror game doesn't let you defend yourself. I want to go back to Penumbra.
The horror comes from the plot and the themes it conveys
Are you implying Soma is remotely deep?
The end of the game is literally at the deepest part of the ocean
I keep seeing saying the same thing.
Out of three Penumbra games, only Overture had combat and it was god awful
>and it was perfect as an abyss walking simulator
The part where you had to find your way to Tau was fucking great. I didnt see shit and felt helpless as fuck, loved that part.
They tackle different things, arguably the opposite.
Soma does deliver it much better though.
I dropped it when I got to the mainframe room and had to sneak around donner kebab monsters. Shit was too scary. Should I go back to it?
If this was remade as a VR game (with or without the horror elements) it would probably be praised moreso than the flatscreen version.
>A walking sim / atmospheric psychological horror game did what a japanese action rpg known for playing around with gameplay styles tried to do.
