It's not like they couldn't make compelling stuff, since the non disgaea SRPGS they put out all tend to be pretty good, disgaea just got a bit too big for its own good and thus had to play it safer

I want to say because it wasn't written by Sohei Niikawa (because it wasn't) but D5 had an awful story as well and he wrote it, so I don't know what to tell you.
At least the D1 remake will sweep DD2 under the rug.

Have you not played a Disgaea 1 port? D1PC lets you turn of animations. There's no exp from healing but a healer can learn magic easily and Star was broken in D1.

It does a good job of making him look older, since he'd need another seven hundred years to show age the old-fashioned way. I like both designs, though.

There were some great moments, and I still appreciate the game not treating you like an idiot and expecting you to figure out some of the plot twists for yourself. But half of the story didn't really need to be there, and some of the characters were a real pain in the ass to tolerate. Even Etna. I'm still pissed at how badly D2 ruined her personality.

I very highly doubt that the Disgaea 1 remake will change all that much more than a remaster would. I'm kinda just expecting it to be Disgaea 5 with a re-skin.

The best thing about la pucelle is that you have to recruit him lots of times in order to grind

I dunno about the plot twist, La pucelle did it in the exact same way but better

I mean it hasn't been too bad for me. The tutorial roll is inifinitely rerollable from within the game for one, and there's no mechanics that force you to get dupes of characters. 3* is the highest rollable rarity and has a rate of 8%, everyone can become 5* through a really simple system compared to most mobages too.
Personally what I decided to do is make Asagi 5* as quick as I can, she's getting close I just need to make her hit level 80 and pay the HL needed for the ascension

Disgaea 5's production was such a mess that I think everyone just kind of assumed that that would be it for the series and stopped paying attention to it.

I guess that doesn't sound too bad but fuck man I really wanted a "real" Makai Wars game, especially now that they've shown the original Asagi in D5. Is the Asagi in the mobage another clone too?

The Land of Carnage is much more substantial this time around, but a lot of the more basic "fight and recruit cameo characters" content was completely gutted for DLC, with even the D1 trio costing extra. If you get the Complete version, it's perfectly fine, but charging for some of this stuff at the time was really scummy.

Don't bother Reincarnating before Post Game. Not only will your returns be limited that early, but the formula for Reincarnation bonuses has been altered to have more to do with your Class Proficiency than with stored levels. The way you reach the base stat cap is by mastering all of the Sub Classes, THEN Reincarnating. Uniques get a 5% bonus to all Aptitudes each time they Reincarnate (up to the fifth time), but other than that, you can just Reincarnate once and get the full benefit.

Instead, you should focus on capturing enemies, interrogating them and getting Magic Extract from them, and using those to boost your stats. Just Extracting from ten or so units can increase your stats the equivalent of about five levels. It completely obliterates the challenge you'll face in the main story.

Disgaea has soft reboots every new game, the issue was the writer didn't appeal to the D1 fans the game was designed for, and even outside of that, the story was just overall poorly handled.
It's not as if Disgaea 6 can't have a 10/10 story, NIS has great writers, just look at Zettai Hero Project or The Witch and The Hundred Knight, the issue is NIS doesn't want to let go of Disgaea's """wacky""" humor but can't seem to find anyone who can do a funny and interesting story, for some reason.

Sicily, Laharl's angel little sister. She was introduced in Disgaea D2 and contributed nothing. She's not unlikable or anything, she's just kinda there. Laharl, Etna, and Flonne have been a trio for so long and have such an established chemistry together that no addition could have felt necessary.

Plus, her back story is kinda fucked up. Apparently, when Laharl's mom sacrificed herself to save his life that one time, she was pregnant. And she made a deal with Death or something to reincarnate the unborn fetus into an angel, and in exchange the mother would live out a sentence as a Prinny.

Sicily, new character who claims to be Laharl's sister. She is, it's complicated

I just watched all the cutscenes on the game and come on, really? Was this game always this shit? I mean there are really funny moments, but what was the point of it all? The power grind was hideous! Why would I grind for 1000 hours for 3 hours of pointless romance? The ending wasn't satisfying.

It still annoys me that she doesn't look anything like Laharl at all. I get that her hair bows are supposed to be like tied-up versions of Laharl's hair antennae, but they could have given her red hair and blue eyes or something, or at least made her ascot blow in the wind like his scarf. She just doesn't fit.
