yeah boi

...

The differences aren't that big nowadays

...

I wish more games had ultra low settings. I want to play games in PS2 mode

We need to go lower.

...

posting source games is cheating

...

COMFY

Because companies are shit at optimization, and publishers don't want people to think their games are ugly, so they force companies to not make proper graphical setting adjustments.

Well, modern effects are more related to animated graphics and are made more obvious in videos. Like lighting reflections, particles, how lighting interacts with other effects, tesselation, etc.

Also, Crysis was known for having so many "experimental" graphical features at maximum, and practically nobody could play the game at more than high settings.

2bh Crysis 3 optimisation was damn good all round

some games look comfy but this is just awful

if the lighting was there this would actually look alright

This actually looks really nice. Like a PS1 game

...

NOT-SO-FULLY

AYY FREEMAN

YA GOTTA DO THE THING

modern games look better on lowest settings because all the shit lighting effects get removed

...

...

almost looks like a mobile game

I've wished for a very long time that more games would be made with a low res/low poly style but still have good lighting and post effects

do you remember this game Sup Forums? abusing MC-kun unlimited turn ability was so much fun, good ol' ps2 times...

and now that this has happened what are your thoughts?

...

Did it fucking convert the HUD files to .jpg because .png files are too graphically intensive?

Games always used textures that are noticeably compressed.

looks like shit even at high quality, to be honest

I'm talking about how the HUD images with transparent parts have black backgrounds instead.

...

>tfw oblivion psp was almost a thing

i actually thought sc2 on lowest settings had cartoony charm to it
too bad the story can't be salvaged

i "miss" this so much

lower

is this kcd

haha simply ebin

Your low settings, madam.
youtube.com/watch?v=iOp3FX6aMyk

I play the game like this because I like it. i could bump up the graphics but it looks worse and more cluttered to me

>disguised Barney

>36

kek

Serious Sam: The Runescape Encounter

>Everything bright and washed out
Reminds me of playing a shitload of sources game and Oblivion on my emachine because it was all I could run. Both games had this effect, or lack of effect I guess.

All you homos and your poofter textured polygons.

>6 fps above consoles
>looks just as good

consoles everybody

Isn't this how it always looks?

It looks like Out of this World 2.

ugh, lower

youtube.com/watch?v=-RwqxLZzrxY

youtube.com/watch?v=vrJ330NGjCU

This is comfy.

...

Skyrim's looking good on the Switch

Wow, that's a sight I haven't seen in fucking ages. It's not nostalgic, it's a fucking nightmare. I barely pulled along at above 20 fps with these kind of settings.

Uh. The changes aren't noticeable with the first Crysis either.

This interests me

interesting

some user a while back used nvidia inspector to screw around with his GPU settings and voila

Everything above 30 is a placebo you mong. You don't see people who watch movies bitching that all of their films are locked to 24 fps.

To this day I cannot believe how much I hate the Starcraft 2 graphics. I think this was one of the first games that really opened my eyes to how botched a 2D to 3D transition can be. They completely missed the feel of the old games.

Yeah but Starcraft 2 had better visual settings on the high end than Starcraft did.

Welcome to console centered development, where scalability is not a priority as your main target platform has fixed hardware.

Looks like a modern artsy indie game

I like some of the rationalizations that these companies give too. For multiplayer games they restrict the customization of settings for the sake of "competitive integrity" so that everybody is on an even playing field.

kekd

i dont get it

the difference with crysis 3 is that low settings perform 3-4x better than very high while mostly looking the same.
by virtue of being a 30fps console game with terrible foliage it's always on low settings

(You)

pleb

What is this screenshot showing

I disagree desu. The Starcraft engine and graphics are pretty good when you take into consideration that there can be hundreds of units on the screen at the same time.

I can't imagine Starcraft with any other style of graphics.

This makes me miss EQ.

Ultra Low Quality and Oldblivion.

With proper lighting the top would unironically look better. Everything doesn't have that gross plastic sheen on the bottom.

Can I do that to any game with the inspector?

>at higher settings vanilla Oblivion would look better than Oldblivion
NO
FUCKING
SHIT

Fuck dude when did Nepal turn into a tropical jungle? Does Google know something I don't?

clearly we must turn everything into PS1/N64 quality

It's actually Borneo.

...

Yeah I know
And it's actually UC1 so it was completely wrong

theoretically yes, sorry that I didn't save his settings

Reminds me of having to mod Oblivion and fuck around with .ini files to make it work on my computer while still looking passable. Had to mod it so view distance was extremely low, like the game had an eternal thick mist that only let you see a few meters in front of you.

Turned out a year later that one of my ram cards was loose and after I fastened it I could play it fine

here's to hoping this isn't something I can get banned for in a multiplayer game

it probably is

For a PS3 game that came out in 2009, it's actually pretty good looking

What the fuck is that weeb shit?

And this was done with a pair of Voodoo 2's in SLI mode. What a unit.

Dude, Oblivion is fucking ugly, even with max graphics-

he goes whole years without cleaning his machine

Hope ye aint implying thats not a bullshot

How does this happen? Do you not check to see if the system shows all the ram you have?

People actually play games on computers? I thought that was something only poorfags who couldn't afford a console did.

Was this running on a Gameboy Advance? Because I swear I've played better looking 3D games on Gameboy Advance.

I think that shot is actually from the 2015 remaster, but that doesn't mean it didn't still look good in 2009

why would someone willingly play a shooter with a control stick?

Bad bait
