So is 4GO anygood? How is the combat?

4go is generally considered far and away the best spinoff, but it really depends on what you're looking for in a nep game. 4go is an action RPG, you have all four of your active party members with you in dungeons and the non-player characters perform actions based on their AI which you can somewhat modify in the menu.

The story is very light-hearted. There are actually two stories technically. There is the story of the MMO they're playing, which you can finish if you want, and then there is a meta story about the neps playing an MMO together. When the "Neps playing an MMO together" story ends, there is an ending sequence, and then a post-game which is basically the remainder of the story of the MMO.

Overall, if you're a fan of the Neptunia series, then 4go is basically a must-play. The girls are in top form, the humor is on point, and if you play MMOs then there will be plenty of jokes and references for you to enjoy as well. I'm not sure how much non-Neptunia fans would enjoy it, though. it's a little on the short side (you can platinum it in 30 hours playtime), and it's obviously the same low-budget type of game that all neptunia games are. But, for nep fans, it's a really great game.

Personally, 4go might be my favorite Neptunia game. I'd put it up with Megadimension Neptunia VII, but in different ways. VII is like enjoying a standard story-based JRPG, while 4go is a more light-hearted adventure that could be compared to sitting down and enjoying some delicious candy.

It's not just the character designs that were improved either. The dungeons are all brand new, and generally fun to explore. They feel larger and some of them look really nice. 4go was made in a completely different engine and it shows, in a good way that is. There's no virtua forest here.

You don't need to grind, it's actually much better if you don't grind once while playing, although the game incentives it in usual Nepshit fashion. It's more akin to being a sequel to Gungnir, with maps being more of environmental puzzles with enemies littered around. It's basically a standard SRPG with gimmicks around the maps for variety, though the puzzles they end up making collectively are a fun time.

It's probably one of the best Nep games when it comes to quality of gameplay, but the fanbase hates it because you play as a self insert and Noire really wants your dick by the end. It also assumes you have half a brain.

It has little depth. The enemies do nothing resembling tactics. They just sit and wait for you to walk into attack range, then rush. It's less braindead than 4GO and Action, since you have to at least think ahead, but I wouldn't recommend it to any tactics fans. Only nepfags. Go play People's General or something like that for tactics.
