Was it perfect?

Was it perfect?

MGS4 got a 10 so V automatically gets one by virtue of being an actual fucking game.

I don't think the concept of "open world stealth game" could have possibly been done better. They nailed it, at least in that regard.

However, it does have a glaring flaw in that it is obviously not finished. It's really obvious, even without seeing the leaks and datamines that prove it, that there's an entire missing chapter that they didn't have time to make.

Yes

>most of the game is filler
>le ebin body double twist
>dead as fuck world
The gameplay is the best in the series, optimization is top notch, controls are very precise and tight, but it lacks MGSness, so to speak.
Also, unfinished chapter 3.

there's no missing chapter dude
it's a literal rehash of peace walker structure wise. the only missing thing is a boss fight before the ending

The fact that it made people suffer a phantom pain for the story is incredible.

How did mgs4 get a 10? there was like 2 hours of game but it was an amazing movie!

Fox engine is great for sure. It's the reason I can enjoy Survive. I just wish they would do more with it, I can't get enough of it.

Level design was horrendous.
No memorable boss unit, just infected faggots and tanks and hurricanes like in PW.
Not that many weird weapons like the Tanegashima and Solar Gun, they were mostly prosthetic arms.

How is most of the game filler?

>mfw any game gets 10/10 reviews

I want to believe this is what Kojima wanted to accomplish after realizing MGSV is never going to be as good as the other games

Truly a mastermind

Gameplay and controls >

No Chapter 3. Nowhere for the story to go.
>most of the game is filler
Partially true.
>le ebin body double twist
If that's the only thing you got from the ending, you're a brainlet.
>dead as fuck world
Name a single open world that isn't dead as fuck

Africa and Afghanistan are literally the most boring places for a game setting. The game needed way more interiors.

It's on par with half the series and better than the other half

Of course not perfect, but it was a pretty damn good game. As usual, Sup Forums blew its faults out of proportion, so I wouldn't be surprised if some people here would have serious misconceptions about the game.

Seriously what the fuck happened, how was it that from such a masterpiece that was MGS V GZ, a fucking 60 minutes demo to some aborted "David Bowie reference the Phantom Game by Kojimbo™"

>this unfinished piece of dog shit gets a 10/10
Kojimadrones are fucking retarded

>if that's the only thing
It literally is, they wasted a whole game retconning the two Bosses in the MG 1 and 2
>name a single open world
x series, TES as well

There's literally a cutscene from the cut chapter in the game files.

You were supposed to chase after Liquid Snake after he stole the metal gear, and it resolved the problem with the last vial of Vocal Chord Parasite that was stolen by Liquid.

There were a bunch of hanging plotlines that would have been wrapped up with the Liquid story arc but they ran out of time.

10/10 or masterpiece doesn't mean perfect. They put sparse story as a negative. Ratings are arbitrary anyhow.

Because it actually deserved a 10. Unlike the pity 10 V received.

Why doesn't it get a 9.9 if the story is sparse?

>TES

lol that shit is dead as fuck at least MGSV has good gameplay lmao

The stealth wasn't perfect at all. I really loved the concept of the enemy getting more serious and arming themselves up if you try to Rambo the whole game. It gave you an incentive to try stealth, but that is countered if you try your same old bag of tricks too many times so actually having to mix things up when sneaking was brilliant.

But it was just a concept.

Enemies don't get tough enough to make brute forcing everything a risk whatsoever. Stealth quickly degrades to taking Quite or D-Dog with you everything. It basically becomes easy mode once you get used to it.

I'm still mad the game isn't finished for this reason. It could have had so much replay value if it was. Besides the world being empty with nothing to do, the gameplay not being able to adapt to your style more effectively kills the game for me. Fuck me, even their side ops had so much potential: you could send your soldiers to sabotage enemy shipments of supplies to make your actual missions easier. Sadly it's so barebones and practically worthless in practice in MGSV's unfinished state.

no it really didn't

>MGSV has good gameplay

Will people fuck off with this shitty meme? Gameplay isn't controls.

Purely from a gameplay feel perspective, so discounting any form of setting, location, encounter whatsoever, I would definitely agree. The only game that comes close to being as good is MGS4 in terms of gameplay feel

But in every other regard? I can't help but feel dissapointed everytime I think of MGSV
Everything I ever wanted from that game I could not get

I didn't even get that feeling of emptiness I usually have after finishing great games, that "leaves you wanting more" feel

I'd compare it to the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, which also left me dissapointed

Shame your opinion means dick

FOB

>sparse story

Doesn't excuse the entire world from being so underwhelming.

>story is retarded already
>chunks of story removed
>story retarded x2

cry more

>invading the lethal sniper, drone infested shitholes over and over again by abusing square camo and dolphin diving
lmao

it kinda does given how everything is balanced around it

>hurr I just read guides on how to exploit bugs why does this game suck???

Are you trying to say the story wasn't sparse?

You already seem to have that covered

If you show me the method which doesn't include mechanic or AI abuse which works on high-tier FOBs you will be granted a Nobel's prize for being so fucking inventive with wallhack pills and sniper rifles with tranqs.

>it kinda does given how everything is balanced around it
>a separate part of the game that does little to drive the actual plot of the game forward makes up for a very disappointing single player experience
>also requires other players' input to actually make it challenging instead of the game being able to do so on its own

It's no masterpiece

>empty open world with hardly any activity outside of camps
>godawful side ops that may as well be procedurally generated
>no boss battles worth playing
>unnecessary jamming of mobile game tier mechanics of collecting resources
>chapter 2 is mostly repeated content except with difficulty modes, which should have just been given to every mission as additional options
>Mother Base is sparse and has no real activity. Where's the bustling action of helicopters flying around everywhere deploying soldiers, with DD guys being carted in to the medical wing and soldiers training?
>dumb story that acts more as a spin-off than a story with real consequence
>cut content up the ass

I'll say it has good mechanics and controls, but it doesn't have good gameplay or design.

No. I am saying that "sparse story" is kind of an understatement

>muh plot
Dude, the mechanics, the game, is based around fob.

nah but Survive sure is

Have you played the game. three-fourths of the missions are the same thing over and over again, while forcing you to travel for miles across fucking nothing to reach your destination.

Remember the foreshadowing at the beginning of the game when Venom says that early in the morning and after a hard hit he goes colorblind? I sure do. I sure as fuck do. Glad the payoff was cut from the fucking game.

>extracting this guy will get us one step closer to CIPHER!

Summed up about a third of the game right there. Fuck The Phantom Pain. Fuck it so hard.

Use helicopter?

Just use DHorse or the fast travel, dumbfuck

Of course not. No game is perfect. That status doest exist because every players expectation of the game is different. But some games have come close.

>But some games have come close
like

Bought this game recently on sale, having not played any other MGS games, so I think I came in with basically a clean slate. The opening alone should drop its score to below an 8/10 because it's a ridiculous abortion. But putting that aside, when I got an A rank on the mission with the metal gear by killing everyone using a tank, and the cutscene that followed the end of that mission made me stop playing all together. Ground Zeroes was more fun, I'm glad I got the bundle with it included at least.

Actual gameplay is a 10/10. Everything else is 5/10.

Didn't mean to quote.

>The first mission after Kaz's heavy monologuing at the start is blowing up some tiny satellite dishes in a Russian base for no apparent reason that they replace within minutes anyway

What the FUCK was meant by this?

>Actual gameplay is a 10/10
No, it's too easy of a game. Difficulty not varied enough.

Lol mgsv was the most disappointing game I ever played. Kojima had so much good will built up and I was so excited to play that I put in way more hours than I should have because I thought it was going somewhere. Remember when it hit me that this game was never going to amount to anything and I just stopped playing it all together about 80 hours in. I'm so mad at this game and I will be mad forever about it.

It's sort of like Mass effect 2 &3 on how it completely destroyed the series

it's hard to pull off well, also FOB. It's more about picking around with the mechanics and having fun than it is overcoming scripted challenges in closed off hallways

what was Bad about the gameplay? as i See it the fluff around your actions is really Sparse but doing objectives is fun as fuck and open for many different approaches. Reflex shouldn't have been a thing tho

Interesting. I played both MGSV and XCX like 3 months apart and XCX ended up being one of my all time favorite games but I was super disappointed with MGSV. oh well

>Reflex shouldn't have been a thing tho
You can turn off reflex.

There are too few enemies and game is very easy in general.

again, FOB is what you're looking for.

Reflex exists because the game isn't about aiming accuracy, it's about doing the most with the fewest resources and just avoiding detection altogether.

>FOB is what you're looking for
FOBs are piss easy too, and boring.
>it's about doing the most with the fewest resources and just avoiding detection altogether
So the game is only challenging when I handicap myself? Why wouldn't I use all resources available? And if you get detected you run off and barely get punished for it, only get some score reduction

Seriously. There should have at least been some permanent damage. And then maybe have them follow up surprised at how organized the Soviets must be to get replacements so quickly. Then you could establish the real passage of time, enemy adaptation, and the level of threat of who you're dealing with all in one move.

That's not the point. The point is that outside of major camps there is nothing worth doing in Afghanistan or elsewhere. The world is just there to look nice. Its lifeless. Open world was a neat concept but when there isn't anything to do in it is it really worth putting it in?

>FOBs are piss easy too
no they're not

quit posting the fake version you shitter

>The point is that outside of major camps there is nothing worth doing in Afghanistan or elsewhere

Side Ops take place pretty much anywhere

You can take out entire base with empty mag

I replayed XC before playing XCX and I couldn't believe what a shitshow most of it was

The attempts of humor they made in XCX by forcing the same joke over and over were repulsive. The bad guys couldn't be taken seriously for a minute which removed any kind of suspense or longing toward knowing more about what happens next.
The creation of your own character as a stark contrast to Shulk could have worked out nicely but in my mind, it just made the protagonist have an identity crisis and any interaction flat out boring.
Mechs were too powerful too early on and made combat into a chore rather than a challenge.
Exploration felt forced at times because of those required % of energy or whatever you had to get to advance the story.

Graphically and sound-design wise I would give the game a really good rating, but voice acting and character design were awful

I can't actually believe they ended it on a cliffhanger, did XC2 actually start from that point? Does it have any connection at all?

Oh you mean go to this base to get this schematic, kill this guy or get this special guy? Cause that is what they are. They don't take place in the world. They take place in the bases. The world is just the dead landscape to travel across to get to them.

>caring about scores when its most often than not skewed because companies can blacklist reviewers if they dont like what you say.
