Daily reminder to do yourself a service and play this game...

Daily reminder to do yourself a service and play this game. Its the best immersive sim since System Shock 2 and it blows SS2 out of the water in all of the gameplay departments. Most people who played this game themselves still dont know just how deeply your choices and actions affect the game. I mean fuck, there is a "scripted" sequence pretty close to the beginning where your AI helper kills another one that tries to guide you but if you kill your original AI drone the other one actually survives and guides you with different intent throughout the game and actually advocates you using the escape pod which ends the game prematurely by hours

>Its the best immersive sim since System Shock 2
Did you ever play The Sims 3?

"immersive sim" is a genre with a definition, the sims has nothing to do with it

Doing a Human only neuromod run with max empathy. Fucking hell, I miss the mimic powers.

>immersive sim
I prefer shocklike.

Did that on my first playthrough and never felt bored at all, now doing a second one with mimic powers incorporated. Combat focus+ security stat+ crazy speed and jumps were broken as fuck by the end of the game when youre just leaping into a pile of phantoms and killing everything with the shotgun before they even realize what happened

Thanks user

"The Sims like" is correct term.

I haven’t even played System Shock 2 yet buddy

what exactly is stopping you

Immersive sim sounds retarded

Games like these should be defined by either being Shock or Deus Ex

Shock:

>System Shock
>System Shock 2
>Bioshock
>Prey

Deus Ex:

>Deus Ex
>Deus Ex HR
>Vampire Masquerade:Bloodlines

did this and saved everyone
had the best ending too
thought about playing it again and go full "KILL 'EM ALL"

>tfw picked Dishonored 2 instead
Man I can't even tell if im disappointed or not. The whole game was go here and do that. I might need to do a second playthrough with Emily.

>Its the best immersive sim since System Shock 2

Have you played Kingdom Come?

I'll pick it up the next time I see it on a PSN sale.

Kill 'em all is a fun route. For maximum keks, get the neuromod that allows you to raise phantoms from corpses. Trust me.

My backlog

why are retards trying to force kingdom come into immersive sim discussion? KC is a fucking RPG with a giant world, it has nothing to do with immersive sims

people like are just as retarded for trying to discredit the term when it exists exactly to make the clear distinction between more "traditional" RPG.s and immersive sims where the element of roleplaying is less tied to dialogue/character related choices or upgrading your character itself being the main goal and instead the element of roleplaying is the simulation of being free to complete goals within a plausible environment that doesnt break or mangle its own rules conveniently. Functions like hacking/repair, movement, brute force/physics manipulation etc etc. Something like PREY doesnt arbitrarily decide that this piece of glass is unbreakable or that you cant climb this particular wall with the gloo gun, every single rule is clear cut and established logically (like glass that would automatically cause a vacuum when broken is contained with a shield and gloo wont stick to glass)

The game is great up until the final reveal.

Wait so... Breath of the Wild and Phantom Pain are immersive sims then? They're got quite a bit of details in their systems and there doesn't seem to be any arbitrary bullshit restrictions where the game goes "I don't like the way you're trying to use this ability, its not happening".Phantom Pain especially was open on how you could tackle problems too.

No, because both of them are open world games and immersive sims are completely dependent on being dense instead of large. Being able to go le combat or le stealth or to place balloon traps in TPP has nothing to do with immersive sims just like Zelda has nothing to do with immersive sims simply because you can move around freely

i did
> boring setting
> agressive gameplay not fun
>dudududud music when a mimic appear
>cry engine , where?
>at least lvl design is great

So the difference is just the scale of the world then? So is Ground Zeroes an immersive sim because its smaller?

Played it, was great. I'd say it got stale though towards the end though

I feel like it could use more enemy variety, but it was fun for what it was. Probably one of the few recent Bethesda published games I’ve played in awhile I actually really enjoyed.

I wouldnt call the setting "boring", I can agree that it isnt as immeaditely interesting as something like ishimura or von braun but unlike them its completely believable and plausible which plays into the level design. Prey's biggest achievement is the fact that nothing about the station is unrealistic and youre never warping around, the entire exterior with the airlocks in appopriate places shows this perfectly and the G.U.T.S going through the interior of the station as a maintenance tunnel is ingenious

>So is Ground Zeroes an immersive sim because its smaller?

Its closer to being one by a longshot which is exactly where TPP fails spectacularly and GZ succeeds. GZ is dense with multiple very intentional things happening in the world that let you simulate your approach more accurately than anything in TPP. However your abilities to interact with a tangible environment beyond climbing onto X platforms or crawling under select spaces makes it fall short. If Big Boss had magnetic tools or something to climb on anything and tools to actively affect a simulated gameworld rather than simply avoiding its obstacles, it would be an immersive sim. And Im relatively sure I know what Im talking about since I put 70 hours into GZ

First time I played the game I didn't really like it, quit before Dahl showed up.
A few months later I tried it out again and really enjoyed it. Still not as good as the Dishonored series.

The enemy variety seems like its less than what it actually is due to the goo aesthetic, but the game has quite a few enemies when you count them
>mimic
>phantom (different types, comparable to enemies with different weapons)
>cystoids
>telepaths/technopaths
>corrupted operators( different variations)
>corrupted humans
>nightmare
>weaver

It's very suspicious how AAA worthless open world games get thousands of threads, while gems like this get shit on constantly.

Barely anyone knew what the first prey was like or wanted Prey 2, yet that was astroturfed here.

Such a great game, love the GLOO gun.
I only figured out at the end that you can freeze those walking dudes with it.

did you run or fight the nightmare the first time?

I was too scared of it and the weaver in the lobby and just hid in the elevator.

I ran the first time because I was playing on hard and didn’t want to waste a ton of ammo. Later on when I had stronger psi abilities I just melted them everytime.

the nightmare appeared the first time when I entered the crew quarters, it was impossible to hide when it practically darted at me the second I entered

What do you lose out on if you go full typhon tree?

Just the turrets attacking you?

>no enemy variety
>no weapon variety
>only 3 areas
>awful story and ending
>forced SJW shit

Yeah no thanks.

...

Full typhon tree isn't viable because all the mods that increase your mana bar and scope chipset slots are human mods.

>the best immersive sim since System Shock 2
ahem

>408111684
Obvious troll is obvious

So... what if you put BOTW Link in Ground Zeros? I'm not really getting the whole immersive sim thing sorry.

it’s fucking shit idiot

Nothing. Nothing happens but a moral lecture.

>Its the best immersive sim since System Shock 2 and it blows SS2 out of the water in all of the gameplay departments
No it's not
Fuck off
Also System Shock 1 is still the best
>t. played it through a year ago
Cancer

Reminder that "you have bad taste" is code for "your taste is different than mine"

>No it's not
>Fuck off

give a single argument for every single mechanic in PREY not being better than the ones in SS2. The only mechanics that were removed instead of deepened/improved were garbage that nobody wants like weapon degradation. And yes, System Shock 1 might be a better game than its sequel but it certainly isnt a better immersive sim. Also SS1 with its original controls is a joke

I love this game a lot, even though I think that the post-credits twist is kinda dumb.

It seems like Prey was originally going to have weapon degredation, with the fact that you can craft weapons (which is never necessary to ever do, but would be necessary sometimes if your weapons broke)

>define a genre based on another game
>genre never evolves and only caters to a small demographic ever

It's not too bad, and it's not too good.
It's average.
It's worth one playtrough before replaying something better like SS2.

It's being praised lately because now it's becoming niche and Sup Forums has to overpraise anything that's niche and shit or anything that's mainstream, it's the law.

Assuming that its the case, then it was the right choice to remove the mechanic. However, you can explain away the weapon fabrication plans with the fact that you can actually drop and dismantle your weapons if you ever need space or X materials, hence why it might as well safeguard the player by letting you reconstruct them if necessary. The fabrication plans are just there instead of taking any inventory space so who cares really

I wish they left it in as an optional mode that also has hunger and thirst mechanics

Bought this when it came out and fucking loved it. I watched someone play the opening hour before it was released and never watched any more due to spoilers. Was by far and away one of my favourite vidya of 2017.
There is literally no scene that has yet come close to the nightclub/bar section where 5 phantoms come out and you have to fight them all off whilst Semi Sacred Geometry plays over the fight.

Very cool part, reminded me of a segment from Alan Wake with poets of the fall playing in the background

Did they release a mod to make the combat not shit yet?
Because it's a good game aside from the shit combat, which is shit.

What's wrong with the combat? It's standard shooter mechanics.

>this pile of utter mediocrity
>better than VtM:B or Deus Ex or Human Revolution

It's scary to think someone with taste this bad is out there. Even Dishonored is better than this, and that shit is already a 6/10 at best.

Problem is, immersive sims started with Ultima Underworld 1 and died with System Shock 1 with the only possible exception of Deus Ex 1. Neither System Shock 2, Arx Fatalis, Bioshock or Prey managed to add anything even remotely notable to said formula or to say anything new whatsoever about the concept. In other words, they are reskins and timesinks. And I don't like either reskins or timesinks.
Literally, the story of immersive sim genre is extremely simple. It began with Paul Neurath directing the creation of "dungeon simulation game" Ultima Underworld, it ended when Doug Church (who coined the term "immersive sim", but was NOT the creator of ur-ImSim game - that is, UUW1, only the programmer on it) deconstructed said UUW1 to hell and back and generally shat upon it with rivers of explosive diahrrea with System Shock 1, framing said UUW as completely and utterly meaningless. That's it, the "genre" ended in 1994. Maube Neurath will manage to add something to it with Underworld Ascendant.
Also, Thief is not and never was an immersive sim game, it's a glorified hidden-object-game in immersive-sim-like decorations.

No, this is fucking retarded.

It’s like saying “stop using platformers as a genre, use:”

Mario:
Super Mario 1
Super Mario 2
Super Mario 3

Sonic:
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3

It's fun but it's also hollow as hell. There's nothing to the game. I know Sup Forums doesn't give a shit about depth of story or characters or ideas but a game resting on doing the same shit for 20+ hours isn't a great game. You can get away with it for more 8/10 hours but after that point you gotta start to wonder if there's not a better game out there you could be playing.

>Fun but hollow
So, play in short bursts? Would have been better if it was shorter or more arcadey?

>Human Revolution
>Better than Prey
I loved HR, but goddamn you're wrong as hell

I played for like 30 mins and got stuck
idk where to go next

I don't know how you get stuck in the first area. It's pretty damn straightforward

got boring didn't even finish it

>Immersive Sim
More like Vacuum Cleaner Sim.

I love stuff that feature smart AI, I should have probably pre-ordered that game.
