What's the most overrated video game?
What's the most overrated video game?
I'd say your pic related, though I can't properly judge it as I've never played it myself
Not the most overrated, but people need to accept that System Shock 2 is an unfinished mess. I still love the game though, and its still very fun to play.
You already posted it.
Rayman 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Skyrim, no contest.
Any of the GTA games.
The Last of Us. Fucking boring overhyped shit.
>babby hates gameplay
Super Metroid.
Modern Warfare Millions of upon millions of people think that game is not only above average but great or amazing even.
I can't even being to tell you how bad your opinion is. The music alone is great
The Witcher "Worst gameplay in an AAA in 2015" III
cod4 was a big deal in 2007. that + halo 3 were the first and biggest mp experiences for a ton of people. i think that's where all the praise comes from. looking back on it, it's pretty bad. the only mission i'd replay is all ghillied up
wat. the witcher came out in fucking 2007.
did you really need to reply with an extended "this"
this
it's called shitposting, newfag
>browses a board for video game enthusiasts
>hasn’t played one of the most important video games of all time
This is up there. Not that it’s bad though, just insanely overrated.
did you really need to reply to me?
video games aren't cinema. they aren't "entry level" video games. Most games quickly become dated messes. OoT isn't worth playing by anyone in 2018. BoTW, and twilight princess has surpassed it in every single way.
Besides Oracle of Seasons, Zelda was never really my jam.
did you really need to reply to me?
Anyone who thinks Ocarina of Time is overrated has no concept of video game canonology. Let's say that your argument isn't that it's a high quality game but simply against it being THE greatest, just to err on the safe side of why someone would deign to call OoT overrated. Even if by some metric it were less than 10/10 by today's standards which the hell it is, you still have to consider that video games are an interactive media and not an art. Meaning they can be isolated to a specific time-frame or measured against contemporary standards. Now there's no chance there was a better game than OoT at release. We can all at least agree there, even if you're a babby believer in the "games age" sham. Reviewers said it. I said it. Your best friend is saying it. If you deny this the onus is on you to prove otherwise.
Now that we have the out of the way the question then is, just how much better was Ocarina of Time at release? For that you have to look at all it did, all it contributed to game design, and how it excelled at those individual things from just that, an individual standpoint. In my honest opinion Ocarina of Time has never been topped at anything it did, and the fact we're still learning new things about the complexity of its code shows how ahead of its time the mechanics were. Other than Mario, do you see any other vidyas breaking ground for new speedrun categories by simply playing the game as is, and moving the character around? Nah. Nintendo made the first breathing virtual world when they construed OoT. It's a good game, with a good story, high production values, and unique characteristics congenial to its format (carts). I, you, or anybody would be hard-pressed to say how it could be better other than "make it longer."
If you don't appreciate this then you're probably unfamiliar with old games and not a real gamer.
ftfy
>you aren't a real gamer unless you enjoyed the same video games I did as a child
and people wonder why no one takes video games remotely seriously
I still haven't played either of the half life games.
Mega Man 2
if you exclusively browse Sup Forums as I do, this is one of the most underrated games of all time. People would have you thinking this perfectly acceptable AAA title is unplayable.
Extremely over rated, but still good
Praised as 11/10 and is about 7/10
lol
honestly megaman in general is complete shit by modern standards. like 10,000 improved clones have come out now.

>arguer's point is that you're not a gamer if you don't realize how OoT was so good at release, and so still remains because you are syllogistically saying all games before OoT are shit.
>reads it as WAIT BECAUSE I CAN'T GET INTO OOT HE'S CALLING ME NOT REAL GAMER, REEEEEEEEEEEEE-
and people wonder why we have a sociological crisis and perversion of bipartisnship in the US.
This.
The simply reality is that this board is populated by clueless children who understand NOTHING about Game Design and cannot stomach being constantly told that Nintendo have always made the best video games in the world. Nintendo can be relied upon almost without fail to consistently produce exceptional gaming experiences and routinely alter the status quo - redefining expectations of what video games can be.
OoT was, is and always will be, a masterpiece.

>implying you can get into my headspace
I didn't even read his post dumbass.
As a kid I thought Banjo Kazooie and Star Fox 64 were better, though it was certainly great.
Ocarina of Time is still the best 3D Zelda.
GTA IV. At least OoT and THPS2 were worth their scores in the past. The GTA games ride hype harder than any other series in gaming bar none.
Yea
Read after the quotes r-tard
In the /vr/ category, I'd say its a tie between Goldeneye and Final Fantasy 7.
For something more contemporary, I'd have to say its a tie between Skyrim and Morrowind
this thread again
On my games I think are over hyped are like Monster Hunter and the souls games. I dont think they are bad, as much as annoying that the fan base thinks the games are difficult, when the majority of the skill needed in the game is patience.
Also The Last of Us, again the gameplay is okay, but it's main draw is this really basic story. Like to be fair, it's probably the only game that did it, I just don't think the story is worth celebrating.
The rest of this thread just looks contrarian. the ultimate contrarian.
>not a real gamer
I stopped reading right there. Please never say this again.
This guy. I like you user.
Close, BotW handily steals that title away from OoT
I wouldn't say they are consistent but just when they make a good game they make sure it is. I think the only thing Nintendo is consistent at is as Aonuma put best, Nintendo tries to make games feel like games and not movies.
Captain, you're looking a little defensive.

Why are you afraid to embrace the title of what you really are?
