Is this gonna end up being 2D platformer of the decade after the last campaign is added?

Specter Knight is all it needed tbqh famalam
Plague Knight > Specter Knight
Considering that Dong Freeze, Mania, and the Rayman games exist, I dont know about that
Possibly. Here's to hoping not-triple-triad and battle mode for the next campaign are pretty good.
No, but it'll probably be the one with the most content and that's a good thing.
I think the only game that could really give it a run for its money is Tropical Dong
king of cards when??????
Are you implying there was a better 2D platformer released in the last decade at this point?
DKTF is good, but I still believe SK is better.
Unspecified date in 2018 because that's how Yacht Club rolls
>Is this gonna end up being 2D platformer of the decade after the last campaign is added?
I hate hype trains but, yeah.
There are some other good 2D platformers but shovel knight did come out ahead
It's really, really, really good.
It's so good that even a person that doesn't give a single shit about classic megaman, like me, loves it.
Then again it's ties to megaman are only on specific things and it doesn't play all that similiar to it all things considered.
Plus by the time you get to specter knight it starts playing a lot like MMZ instead.
Point is, it's pretty amazing.
Once king of cards is out it's going to be one of the best 2D indie packages you can get out there, period.
Basically the only complaint i can move towards it is that it should've had campaigns for EVERY SINGLE knight, but that would've extended development for many more years.
I'm constantly afraid that for the sequel they're just going to jump onto the 2.5D bandwagon.
I hate 2.5D, aside very specific exceptions it always, always looks like fucking shit, you guys have no idea how many interesting indie series i had to abandon because they went 2.5D as it was easier in terms of workload.
I hate it, i'll take good looking 2D spritework over that shit any day of the week.
>I'm constantly afraid that for the sequel they're just going to jump onto the 2.5D bandwagon.
I'm pretty sure everyone on the team is smart enough to know that's a terrible idea. I've talked to some of their devs at PAX East before and they seem to really be with it
Speaking of the sequel, when it inevitably comes around in 8-10 years once Yacht Club is ready to work on SK again (I know I wouldn't want to start on a sequel right after working on one game for five years) I wonder if they're gonna do the playable boss knights again. Apparently Plague Knight alone cost them a million dollars or something and barely anyone actually played it, like 3% of everyone who owned the game. I'm glad they're sticking with their promise of making the DLC free, but that really isn't a viable business model. That said, the massive differences between how the characters play is probably the biggest selling point of SK to me, so I'd be real sad if they dropped it.
The allure of using 3D models is really strong.
It literally cuts down development time to 1/4th.
That, or they'll fall prey to the temptation of using 3D backgrounds that look incredibly shitty to partially decrease the workload, it's the reason why i stepped away from Shantae after pirate's curse, the game after that killed it for me.
>stepping away from barely obscured porn delivered via well-structured platformer
I can take a few hits in aesthetic for shantae! The lewder the mind the more obvious the crime!
Best platformer is obviously Celeste. You aren't sexist or anything, are you user?
Whatever it is, I'm super interested to see what direction they go in for their next game. I doubt their entire staff is on King of Cards (going by the staff count they said worked on Plague of Shadows). They must have been doing at least some work on something else new
>It literally cuts down development time to 1/4th.
Really? I mean as much as I like Shovel Knight aesthetically it looks a notch above a NES game visually. And sprites don't have that many animations. We're not talkin Metal Slug here.
Working with sprites always adds a shit ton of dev time.
Even for a game like Shovel Knight wich is trying to emulate a simpler artstyle and animation that isn't as complex, it still takes way, way more time than it would if they were just using 3D models.
exactly shovel knight sprites aren't very polished and the animations typicality have a lower framerate than anime manages to get away with. it's not like they have things hard to start off with.
Can you imagine what an amazing game they could have made if they just stopped penny pinching shovel knight and made a brand new game? I dunno i just feel like they're being so lazy with all this DLC. even if some of it is free
Technically speaking, Shovel Knight isn’t really a pure platformer than it is an action platformer
It’s not meant to be compared to DK or Rayman
More like Mighty Number 9, Gunvolt, etc
I disagree with you completely.
The DLC for this game was fucking amazing, it added new characters that played completely differently.
They took their time and made DLC that is actually worth playing.
Some of the best in years for most games i've played recently, actually.
That’s a somewhat fair comparison, but it really thins out the competition. Mighty gunvolt burts is great but not as content rich as shovel knight. Yes, I am aware of what I’m saying and I insist that shot crafting is not all that amazing in the long run, even with the DLC characters
dont get me wrong the DLC is great.
but the fact that it's been 4 fucking years since shovel knight first came out and they've making version exclusive shit, porting shovel knight a million different times they could have made a whole new masterpiece by now.
im a patient guy but damn 4 years? and your still riding on the coatail of shovel knight, really?
>I dunno i just feel like they're being so lazy with all this DLC. even if some of it is free
They're doing what they promised backers they've give them, and it's a hell of a lot more than anyone could have expected them to do
I hope that one of King Knight's alternate armors has a Dedede palette.
Hope battle mode ends up being good
