>definitive
genuinely wondering what OP meant by this
definitive
[dih-fin-i-tiv]
adjective
most reliable or complete, as of a text, author, criticism, study, or the like:
the definitive biography of Andrew Jackson.
The version of the game you will likely want to default to for everything save for understanding the context of the original and how the remake evolved from it.
>Light and shadow so iconic in original that it's localized as Shadow of the Colossus.
>Lighting sucks.
Nah.
You clearly haven't played the game, the lighting is dynamic and it looks phenomenal in places. It has real lighting and not shitty bloom that eats the screen, mind you. The only place in the game that's improperly lit is probably the Argus battle, but the tradeoff is that the atmosphere of other fights such as Hydrus, Celosia, Dirge and Basaran are hugely improved.
The best part is the 60fps, ICO remake when?
The best version is the PS3 version solely because it's free.
Mate, it looks like standard ass lighting. Things that were intentionally vague (Colossi mixing with shadows from afar) are much clearer, the fog effects aren't translated properly, etc. In a side by side it looks ass, trading a simpler universal "true" lighting model for complicated bullshit lighting. This isn't even getting into weird shit like Sam-Wander and the very few new bits clashing (The stone Dormin's Sword rests in looks like it came out of Warcraft and doesn't even look like it belongs in its room).
>it looks like standard ass lighting
You're too ineot to actually know what you're talking about
>You clearly haven't played the game
I love how this defense only seems to come from the PS4 defender camp. It can't be a difference of opinion, they must simply be lying! No other possibility!
Fucking shills.
Wander's animations are actually worse, fuck this gaym
>In a side by side it looks ass
I strongly disagree.

>can't even spell inept
The ironing.
Nostalgia fags BTFO
...I don't get it. The lighting absolutely looks worse in PS4 here. PS2 is just lowres as fuck.
Is your keyboard in braille by any chance? The ps2 version barely has any real lighting to speak of, it's just coated in bloom three times over. The Ps4 version actually has dynamic lighting and light sources and shadows and sunbeams in it
You're rarted
That shot looks good and true to the original art direction.
So why doesn't 98% of the remake look like that?
The remake reminds of that bland edgy atmosphere that appeals to normalfags rather than the divine and otherworldly feeling of the PS2 game.
It does, you were just fed the 2% that doesn't in the form of Phaedra and Argus
I agree. The original just has all the ludo, ethereal qualities that the drab and homogenized remake missed. It's quite off-putting to any thinking gamer's artistic sensibilities, I'd go so far as to say only plebian drek could enjoy such a diluted version of this beautiful masterpiece
Original: transcendent, elevated, intrigue, mystery, grandeur, splendor, enrapt, quintessential, almost spiritual
Remake: uninspired, dull, flat, by the numbers, quantity, distilled, empty, soulless, lifeless, generic, poor
>The ps2 version barely has any real lighting to speak of, it's just coated in bloom three times over. The Ps4 version actually has dynamic lighting and light sources and shadows and sunbeams in it
Yeah? That's the point. They set up a pretty standard lighting engine instead of cheating the lighting like the original, leading to weaker shadows, very little actual brightness, and a general lack of the original aesthetic created by Ico and SotC's baked and faked lighting. For fuck's sake you can see outside pretty clearly in the opening cutscene when Mono is lying on the slab instead of the background being overwhelming light. That's a straight fuckup.
>The Ps4 version actually has dynamic lighting and light sources and shadows and sunbeams in it
And it looks worse. Even if you made a game indistinguishable from reality, it can still look like shit if you don't have good art direction. There is such a thing as a shitty photographer.
"realistic" lighting makes the majority of games look like samey trash these days, because game devs leave a competent designer's job up to the game engine and hope for good results.
But, it's not a "difference in opinion" that the game has a lighting feature or not. It simply does have that feature, and you're saying it does't. You're wrong.
Personally I think the original is the best version, but you are not helping our case with your pointless sperging.
>it's not a "difference in opinion" that the game has a lighting feature or not. It simply does have that feature, and you're saying it does't.
>it looks like standard ass lighting.
>>Lighting sucks.
Nobody ever said it doesnt have lighting, you baiting fuck.
>implying it's one person saying you're an idiot

Better video here. Tell me this looks worse and prove once and for all that you're a contrarian who wants to maintain the narrative that the PURE JAPANESE VISION was obscured and butchered by gajin piggus who don't know what they're doing, when they clearly improved on what was there.
Are you seriously this stupid?
The other two posts are examples of people talking about the PS4 version's lighting. Nobody in the reply chain said it didn't have lighting. The reply you followed up on was calling out a bitch for saying anyone who dislikes the PS4 lighting didn't play the PS4 version.
>can't even spell irony
I'm lafin
Nah, the original is still the definitive version. The remake is fine, but it made a lot of stupid aesthetic changes that didn't need to happen. Argus's armor looks worse, the horse's animations are janky and his tail is buggy as fuck, the new piss yellow stamina bar/"cleaner" ui, the new game over screens and the part with Mono in just off the top of my head. I still enjoyed it, but this stuff just stands out as pointless changes to try and stand out from the original.
Where exactly did he imply that, you illiterate turd?
How's the ps3 version compared with the ps2?
u seem mad
>hurr durr dynamic lightning is worse than shitty bloom!
Some of you should be culled from the gene pool.
Looks slightly better and runs better, but they based it off the PAL version of the original so either your grip is weaker and runs out faster or the colossi never stop shaking you off or both, I forget which it was.
The overwhelming light in the temple is missing, so yeah. It's worse. That was kind of an iconic shot you returned to several times. Getting that wrong is a big fuck up as far as lighting goes.
Also the Wonder Boy 3 remake is fucking stellar, so there goes your "but muh nippon" angle. Give me more (You)s and I'll compensate you in turn.
It is, dumb frogposter
What motivates people to shitpost like this, anyway? They're not making the other party upset, and they're not getting validated. What's the end goal?
Responses/(You)s.
I don't get what would make someone so desperate for a response. Maybe I should be glad.
you sound pretty upset for no reason
Simple, the more (You)s you get, the more upvotes you'll get on reddit when you post your screencap.
>no argument
Thanks for making my point for me.
Why does the valley look like pic related?
Why does the temple look like dark pig vomit?
Why is Wander's face in shadow when he's looking out of a giant window?
Because you're an autistic nitpicker determined to shitpost and Wander was clearly indoors behind a gigantic podium?
I like both.
So you're too much of a lazy faggot to appreciate composition, and too much of a brainlet to know that's not how lighting works?
You officially don't belong on either side of the argument, congrats.
