pretty good
no
Its good, but heavily overrated on Sup Forums. Dont try to say anything negative about it or you get shit on.
...
I'm playing the Switch version because of the gyro meme and I'm loving it so far.
It's awful, really shoddy and nonsensical design and balance all round, plays and feels like it was designed for consoles first and it's chock full of gimmicks to try and make up for the fact that the fundamental stuff just isn't very good.
I can understand why most people like it though I mean it is a breathe of fresh air if you've been consuming Cod/Uncharted/Halo etc for the last decade but it isn't a good game, not even close.
...
yes
It's better on switch.
>they added soy to the formula
Time for me to buy it it seems. When someone unironically soyposts then it's always a good idea to do the opposite of what they said.
D44M is literally a Sup Forums-recommended game, don't you latecomer faggots pretend otherwise
yes maybe
But there’s no gyro on the Switch version
They patched it in last week.
it's better than the original games
This one is better?
Full fucking retard.
Ah yes, I see you bought into the meme. Just as planned.
Decent Painkiller game, meh Doom game. Desperately needs a sequel and actual mod tools. Music is on point.
I think it's the best single-player FPS this decade.
complete shit
that's not new colosus
thanks i can read
>Decent Painkiller game
Pretty much this. It doesn't feel like a proper Doom game.
Still good though
How necessary are the glory kills or whatever they're called? I read someone saying that there aren't many pickups and they're necessary to do but is it just a way for casual players to get extra pickups? It kind of reminds me of the QTE finishers from games like God of War which I never liked.
They give HP drops but they're not necessary.
>literally a Sup Forums-recommended game
leave
the combat is entirely based around them
it's pathetic
It didnt feel like Doom. It was something close to Doom but not THE Doom.
OP wasn't talking about Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
I hope not, I figured it would just be something added in for a coolness factor or for casuals to get extra HP because necessary QTEs in a Doom game is missing the point
>the combat is entirely based around them
What makes you say that? Some people are saying there aren't enough pickups without glory kills but some are saying there are. I didn't know there was a demo for it on Steam though so I guess I'll just try it and see for myself. I guess if glory kills are necessary they would try to show them off more in the demo.
if you want doom just play doom
Fuck off retard
Get with the times grandpa
Yeah it's fun
...
They're pretty necessary. Especially on the harder difficulties as you can run through ammo in seconds.
hell no
>I figured it would just be something added in for a coolness factor or for casuals to get extra HP
It's pretty much this. You can still beat the game without doing any glory kill.
>as you can run through ammo in seconds.
There's a thing called "runes", one rune in particular increases amount of ammo you acquire with chance to get BFG ammo when maxed
You know that John Romero released a new map for old Doom right before the release of nuDoom, right?
youtube.com
There's plenty of new content for old Doom coming every day.
Also 3D Realms just yesterday released a new gaming using the Build engine.
store.steampowered.com
I never got that rune. Didn't know it existed
I beat it on ultra violence and that would've been nice to know.I encountered a few parts that kicked my ass because the only weapon I had was my fucking pistol and no chainsaw fuel. I'm going to go back through and play on nightmare later. Is it hard?
Not necessary if you are good at dodging enemies. There are health pickups lying around, and you can use perks for survivability. If you get really low on HP, enemies will drop some health even if you don't glory kill them.
The animations are pretty fast though, and get even faster with the perk, so they don't slow down the pace.
>I beat it on ultra violence
Fuck outta Sup Forums, casual
>running out of ammo
How? The enemies literally bleed it when you're running low.
>if a game isn't designed pc first it's bad
This meme is stupid
If it's a game for pc, a shooter no less, then yes. That's bad.
All things considered I think it did a really good job. They could have taken a shit all over this one and they didn't. There's fast movement speed, non regenerating health, no reloading, big variety of weapons and how to use them, large non-linear levels, soundtrack gets pretty fun, over the top blood and guts. Game is well optimized and looks great. Tons of secrets to find.
My only criticism was how they had to limit the number of enemies on the screen because if console peasantry. The snap map feature (which was supposed to imo be the thing giving this game tons of replay ability) is super neutered by this but whatever. Multi player is Meh, devs probably shouldn't have spent so much time on it.
The levels get to be pretty linear later on.
I guess but people would start bitching about muh backtracking if they didn't mix things up.
They already have the entire gameplay based around enemies spawning out of thin air, they could have easily had some backtracking and reused some of the arenas with a different enemy set.
It’s one of the best single player FPS games of the decade. Mostly by default but still.
I don't use glory kills (unless you count berserker powerup and bosses) and I still have a ton of fun. Have you tried just not using it? Combat flows much better. Honestly if you just upgrade the double barrel all the way then you win the game. That's my only complaint. No item or ability in any game should instantly make it easy mode
Actually I disliked the lack of bosses too. Idk if more were present in the original Doom but i dont really care.
My only complaint is how much of a guilable fuck wasI and brought it digitally on the Switch when it was on sale. Now it takes up most of my space.
No. It's fucking awful, and over-shilled to death.
You're better off just downloading D4D mod for OG Dooms.
>Actually I disliked the lack of bosses too
It had the same bosses as the original. Doom 3 and RoE had 4 bosses instead of 3
>It’s one of the best single player FPS games of the decade.
Maybe If you only play on fucking Xboxes, but otherwise? Hell fucking no. D4 was embarrassment beyond my imagination, and I can't believe that there's people recommending this trash. Then again, Zenimax was caught redhanded threatening Hiro for letting Anons post pre-release footage, so meh.
I keep seeing "not a proper DOOM game, but a kickass Painkiller game." a lot
Should I try painkiller? Because I actually really enjoyed this game.
this, it feels cheap on pc because pc shooters are capable of so much more interactivity because of more buttons and tighter aiming
Not as great as everyone says but still enjoyable. Shame that it didn't last long, now its back to mediocre military shooters.
PK and Serious Sams are closer to the D4's style, but miles better in every single way.
The closest counterpart to D4's style is the Hard Reset.
But yeah, linearly progressing maps, lock-down combat rooms, pseudo-regenerating health, perks / skills and finishers... none of that belongs in Doom.
>Not as great as everyone says but still enjoyable
I did not enjoy it one bit. From all the praise, I expected it to be a true return to the form that would BTFO of all the Cowa-Halo shit. Yet what did I get? Another Cowa-Halo shit with a bit less cinematic feel.
Yes but only Painkiller Black Edition and MAYBE Overdose.
AVOID anything else.
Story is boring
Multiplayer is cool
>linearly progressing maps,
There's a point A and point B that's literally the only linearity
>lock-down combat rooms
This one's true but it never really annoyed me as much as it seems to annoy everyone else. Also, they apparently programmed themselves into a corner with this one, from what I hear.
>pseudo-regenerating health
m8 what are you on about? You literally have to kill ot get health. The process in entirely active. regen is entirely passive. May I have what you'e smoking?
>health, perks / skills and finishers
Not bad when done right and I think they handled runes tastefully. Only complaint is that they made the game a bit too easy
>none of that belongs in Doom.
Purism isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but it sounds like you've got a bad case, my dude.
>Multiplayer is cool
>I expected it to be a true return to the form that would BTFO of all the Cowa-Halo shit. Yet what did I get? Another Cowa-Halo shit with a bit less cinematic feel.
As far as i remember, the new doom doesn't have hp regeneration and a two weapon limit, so i don't understand what you mean. The only annoying flaws it had for me were not enough enemies at once and those godawful killmoves.
>You literally have to kill ot get health.
And you spend the entire game killing stuff. Instead of getting health packs, enemies deliver them to you instead. Ammo too.
It does have Halo movement, grenades, and melee.
All shooter make you kill stuff. The problem is, most nowadays have you clumsily hide behind a wall like a bitch. It can either be exhilarating and engaging in games like ARMA, or a boring hassle like in every CoD campaign since WaW or even 4 if you wanna get dicey. Doom is designed to punish shit like that. You try camping in a corner or taking cover, some imp is gonna bumrush you and swipe away half your health. You only get back what you put in.
>Doom is designed to punish shit like that.
Not really. You can still play it pretty slow. There aren't exactly hordes of enemies that will all swarm you at once.
>There's a point A and point B that's literally the only linearity
you are literally running through pipes with zero exploration or backtracking. It's CoD-tier linear, with only very rare exceptions.
>it never really annoyed me as much as it seems to annoy everyone else.
You must be a very shallow person.
I was originally wondering why did so many reviews and gameplay footage seem to use exactly the same looking parts all the time. Then when I played it, I realized it: you waste like 90% of the entire game in those same lockdown arenas!
>they apparently programmed themselves into a corner with this one, from what I hear.
What do you mean? Last time I checked, the devs stated that because their playtesters were as idiotic as Valve's, they decided to trash the "more oldschool" maps and enemy placement, just so that players could NOT just run past them and kite entire hordes all the way to the end of the levels.
Obviously the consoles being the target audience played a big part in the shitty design as well, made worse by their desire to get steady-ish 60fps on that god awful ID Tech engine and its pointless "Megatextures".
>m8 what are you on about? You literally have to kill ot get health.
Exactly that. You get HP from kills. Even without Glory Kills. The lower your HP, the MORE you get health from enemies! Like you can literally go from 20hp to 100 in a matter of second, just by blasting an Imp out of your way while running the same big circle over and over again. There's no supply management at all, the game showers you with gifts non stop.
>I think they handled runes tastefully.
There's nothing tasteful about nuDuum's systems, and they are totally out of place. Their only reason of existence is to shotgun players tons of silly "choices", so that the devs would have to spend less time designing and balancing things out.
>Only complaint is that they made the game a bit too easy
No, they just made the beginning annoying and restricted as fuck.
kys.
Its okay to play for like an hour at a time. Any longer and it starts to get boring.
>You can still play it pretty slow.
Not if you're playing anything Ultra-Violence or above, which is how the game is meant to be played.
>There aren't exactly hordes of enemies that will all swarm you at once.
I'm getting this eerie sensation that you didn't play the game and you've fallen for hearsay. yeah, some portions of each map feel kinda desolate, but once you enter an arena, staying still = getting fucked.
>Not if you're playing anything Ultra-Violence or above, which is how the game is meant to be played.
I've only ever played the game on UV or Nightmare.
>I'm getting this eerie sensation that you didn't play the game
Made this one last month when the same accusations were made.
>but once you enter an arena, staying still = getting fucked.
Not really. Enemies have to come for you, and it's pretty easy to kill things in this game.
>Ultra-Violence
>how the game is meant to be played
Fucking casuals
You're right. The game was balanced so poorly that anything but the max difficulty was child's play.
>it's been 24 years and we still don't have a worthy modern doom
This is getting ridiculous. How can you not surpass a game from 1993?
>exploration or backtracking
The majority of the maps makes you backtrack at least once
>You must be a very shallow person.
Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. Sure never bothered me in Dead Space or other games with lockdowns.
> their playtesters were as idiotic as Valve's, they decided to trash the "more oldschool" maps and enemy placement, just so that players could NOT just run past them and kite entire hordes all the way to the end of the levels.
Got sauce?
>Exactly that. You get HP from kills. Even without Glory Kills. The lower your HP, the MORE you get health from enemies! That's actually a valid criticism. I would have wanted for health to only come back when you GK'd an enemy
>There's nothing tasteful about nuDuum's systems, and they are totally out of place. Their only reason of existence is to shotgun players tons of silly "choices", so that the devs would have to spend less time designing and balancing things out.
"They put thing I don't like explicitly to not put in thing I like" sounds like a baseless and bitter accusation, my man
>No, they just made the beginning annoying and restricted as fuck.
It's a damn minute and a half tutorial. What did you want?
>kys.
Now that's just post 2014 shitposting, You can do better than that.
The difference in difficuilty between UV and nightmare is ridiculous
>Play nightmare
>Get my face grinded in dirt
>Lower to UV
>Babby mode
>Switch back to nightmare and git gud
This, holy shit. The gap was ridiculous
The game only really becomes difficult when you try to play with no upgrades. They really do break the game so hard.
So um...
I have a question.
What is the difference
Between glory kills
And um...
And pressing melee to kill?
Source on the c&d claim?
Its overrated, but still pretty good
You get health for it and you need to weaken the enemy first, post-electron shitposting underage b&-kun
Thought I would have preferred it if it could only be done if you hit a specific weak spot instead of just getting health low.
Anyone want to play multiplayer some time?
what platform?
Switch
Ah, sorry m8
That switch person wasn't me
I have it on pc
The thing is I don't understand why people complain about glory kills. They're fast, and like you said you need to weaken the enemy first before you can use it. I'd agree about the ridiculous distance you can do it from though. That can be broken. But otherwise it seems fine
Because they take control away from you to play a canned animation.
>yeah, but they don't even last that long
They shouldn't take control away at all.
Who hurt you
>canned animation.
for 2.5 seconds
I just wish you could move while doing it. Maybe even chain them if there are enough staggered enemies. You should also only be able to pull it off with proper inputs, almost alike a command list in a fighting game
2.5 seconds at most, if I may add. Most are less than a second
It doesn't matter, it still takes control away from you. Just like all of the stupid button and door animations. 2 seconds is a long time when all of these enemies do so much damage on Nightmare.
Not necessary, I usually do them if I'm in a real pinch for the extra health, but even then enemies still drop HP if you're low enough. I rarely get low enough on ammo to warrant a chainsaw kill (drops tons of ammo instead of HP) but those are really the only two times you might NEED to glory kill. I will say that a cool rune combo is Armored Offensive and Rich Get Richer, which cause your glory kills to drop armor (so you always have a little on hand) and gives infinite ammo at certain armor thresholds, but that requires a lot of glory killing to keep your armor up (or some good dodging) so that might not be for you.
all this passive aggression just because of an user's opinions
Or just make it like classic doom + berserk pack where you punch the enemies and it registers the hit as damage. There shouldn't be any animation lock, with or without movement.
