agreed after actually buying it and playing. the levels hold no mystery like the original, you know they're just shallow areas before you even begin exploring them, shallow areas with a few treasures sprinkled here and there whose main purpose is to have several dungeon openings. and the dungeons are visually ugly, not fun to move through, and are made of randomly generated '''''''puzzles'''''' that are already solved before you even enter by telling you which elemental pikmin will be needed. there is also zero satisfaction to finding treasure, finding a part for your ship in the original was hugely more satisfying.

I used to believe this myself, having not played 3 as a child, so I was trying to detach myself from any nostalgia for 2. eventually though I felt that while it's impressvie that 3 has a new gimmick every single level, not all of them are winners, whereas I can't think of a single level except the hot air balloon one in 2 that I don't look forward to playing.

I am of the belief that roguelikes are one of the purest forms of videogames and will rage the fuck out at anyone thinking them casualizing themselves for scrubs is a mortal sin.'But I play roguelites also and would recommend them to someone looking to get into roguelikes proper.

But to muddy and conflate them as the same genre is just wrong. Its an internal conflict I've mulled over a bit in the past. I want the genre to thrive but I'm fully aware I can't stay a vanguard and stay in the fight forever, eventually it will wear me down and I'll be the same faggot as the people I hate.

I also think Shadow of the Colossus was boring. If you enjoy Shadow of the Colossus, you may well enjoy Gone Home, because it's in the same ballpark. You walk around with nothing to do, but this is fine because the game is artistic and you're taking in the atmosphere. It's an artistic decision that there are no enemies/nothing to do. When you reach the boss, you fight it - and you can't die unless you are so terrible at video games that you should kill yourself in real life instead, so it's not even really a boss fight. Just a quick puzzle to figure out. Much like the notes you find in Gone Home - read it (or '''''fight''''' it), try to figure it out, move onto the next. I thought the music was good, and the ending (the playable part) is memorable. Nothing else to say. Wouldn't recommend it, wouldn't replay.

MGS4 was a huge improvement over the boring, buggy shitshow that was MGS3.
