Got used to 144hz
>Go around with normi friends
>see them play Xbox one forza 3
>frame rate look like a railcoster
>real life runs at infinite fps
>start playing game at 144fps
>vomit
I've never looked at a 144Hz monitor in fears of this happening to me
Once you got used to it you can't go back. It's like SSD vs HDD.
>Have a 144hz monitor with a 1ms respond time
>Experience same issues that op has
>Games with a poor input latency are essentially unplayable
One of the rare cases when people spouting shit like this were actually right. 120Hz+ screens are great investment if you have a good GPU. I feel like vomitting when Im moving the mouse on my 2nd, 60hz screen. Not to mention the sickness I get when I switch to PS4 and get sub-30 in Monster Hunter World.
Shit man Garbage Pail Kids and Garbage Gang was my childhood
>jap game
>capped 60fps
>max 1080p
Every single time. Why are japs so garbage at PC games / ports?
Having done 144 for long periods of time I can still tolerate 60 but it takes a minute or two to adjust.
I still think 30 fps is fine.
I know that the people saying this shit are lying because our eyes can only see 24fps each.
I don't understand how people can run games like that. I have a 1070, and it seems like every game I play has trouble reaching 60fps/1080p.
Are all the games I play just bad ports? Do I need a new CPU or more RAM or something? I don't get it.
>144Hz monitor
>turn on V-sync in game
>just caps FPS to 60
You had one job and you couldn't even do that.
generally a 1070 can max out any game at 1080p and reach 60-80 fps with ease.
>buying new computer parts just to play older games at higher framerates
High, I'm user and I have a framerate addiction.
By the way did you know that at 240hz you enter the realm of "real" motion blur?
They are lying or experiencing the effects of preconscious rationalization so their conscious mind doesn't have to deal with how much money they wasted on stupid shit.
>1070
>A GPU that can even get vermintide 2 running at 140fps
Well at 1080p your cpu does act as a bottleneck.
>Play Serious Sam but I always want the ms to stay at 0.2-0.9 ms range
Aaaaaa
The problem I hate after getting used to 144Hz is how easily noticeable frame rate fluctuations are. If the game stays around 80 - 90 it's smooth as fuck and just fine, but anytime it dips to 60fps it's close to how it used to feel playing at 60fps and dipping down to 40. There is a jittery, stutter that is very noticeable.
I have a 1080 Ti and a 1440p monitor and games are already pushing the limit. FFXV hovers around 70 - 80fps while sometimes dipping to 60. Everything is maxed out but I turned off the advanced Nvidia graphics. I almost wonder if I should have stuck with a 1080p resolution monitor, but 1440p 165Hz is fucking incredible when games run smooth on it.
Garbage Pail Kids were awesome
No they weren't.
Mine too. I still have a bunch in a box somewhere. Wonder if they're worth something...
I remember this card.
>at 240hz you enter the realm of "real" motion blur
There's actually no framerate that corresponds with reality, because you never sit with your eyes fixed in one place and watch things move around you. I mean, just try looking to your left, then looking to your right. Notice how choppy it is? It's because your eyes don't have a focal point when you're adjusting your vision. Now look left and right in a video game, even one that's only 30 fps. It's much smoother by comparison, because your eyes are staying fixed on the screen. This is why super high refresh rates can give many people headaches. The eyes aren't used to information state changes that happen so quickly
I have a 1080 Ti and 1440p monitor. I generally get 80+ FPS with games maxed out, but there are always exceptions. PUBG FPS fluctuates like crazy, it doesn't matter what rig you have it's just the optimization itself that is poor. FFXV is intense and I get around 70 FPS with dips into 60.
What games are you not reaching 60fps in?
Response time ==//== input lag
Response time is the amount of time it takes for a pixel to fully transition from 1 color to another color, usually 2 slightly different shades of gray, which is called GTG response time (gray-to-gray).
A monitor with 1ms response time can have an additional 10ms input lag. Typically monitors are better at input lag than TVs, so this is unlikely, it's just an example. They're not synonymous. Your input lag is always AT LEAST equal to your response time, but it's ALWAYS more.
Why were white kids always into this gross shit?
because they realize that graphicsfagging is a dead end street and causes only financial ruin.
Is 144hz some kind of sweet spot? I’m aware that 165hz monitors exist; are they not worthwhile?
Yeah, it's really gross. Now let's go eat cow head and huff some jenkem, Jamal.

I have the ASUS PG279Q and it can overclock to 165Hz. I recently just knocked it back down to 144Hz. I can't really tell the diff between 144 and 165. The reason I put it down was because most games I'm not achievement 144+ FPS, so it's sort of redundant to be using 165Hz. On top of that, the higher your refresh rate and the lower your FPS, the more glaring frame fluctuations are going to be. Hitting an average of 90FPS in a game using 165Hz is silky smooth, but games that will drop down to 60 or even 70 you will notice hiccups. I'm hoping dropping down to 144Hz those hiccups won't be as noticeable, but I haven't played it enough to know yet.
This monitor is fucking gorgeous though. 165Hz wasn't the selling point for me, I just wanted a 1440p 144Hz monitor, and this one happened to have the ability to overclock.
Infinite fps? How would that work?
A planck second would be the absolute minimum of a frame, which means theres a finite amount. Cba to look up the lenhth of one though.
Bear in mind that Nvidia cards do require some headroom in the CPU department. You're running an i5 which is okay but later down the line, your GPU won't be able to reach full potential without more room in the CPU department
Only white people would eat the head of anything. Cow foot tastes way better anyway.
>>tfw
I think you mean mfw
1440p 144 hz is the end of diminishing returns, dont let anyone meme you most games wont run beyond that unless they are built to play on PC.
>but muh 1080ti
>muh i7
you will not go beyond 120 fps because devs are shit, dont blow your budget unless you have to.
Shit I've only ever seen 75hz OCed. I can deal with 45hz+ anything under is unplayable.
>the higher your refresh rate and the lower your FPS, the more glaring frame fluctuations are going to be.
Don’t you have G-Sync?
Makes me glad I never fell for the 144hz meme. I knew something like this would happen.
As a kid before the internet was a thing, it was the most fucked up thing ever.
>A planck second would be the absolute minimum of a frame
What are you basing this on? How do you know?
Diminishing returns start before 120hz. Pixels can't shift faster than a certain point, even with ULMB or similar techniques. The only benefit of those 200hz+ is that they are perceived as less blurry when combined with ULMB or lightboost.
...
That feel when still using 60hz
Yeah but don't let people convince you it's some magic new technology that's without problems. There were a lot of issues with Gsync I was having in the beginning that I had to search online to solve. For instance, there's an option to choose enabling Gsync in fullscreen or windowed/fullscreen. The windowed/fullscreen option isn't viable at all. So many games are jittery as fuck. Some people also experience issues using a secondary monitor that is 60Hz, which it seems like you can solve by plugging your secondary monitor into your motherboard instead of GPU. You also want to enable Vsync in Nvidia control panel but leave it disabled in games, this way Vsync only triggers in game if you go OVER your max refresh rate, while Gsync is enabled all other times. You can also stop Vsync from ever triggering by capping your FPS, which I do for most games at just below my refresh rate. Point is, there were a lot of things to cover about Gsync to get it working properly.
That being said it's still 10x better than Vsync, screen tearing and input lag is a non issue. But when you are playing on 144Hz and getting drops down to 60fps you will notice hitches. I've found the sweet spot for completely smooth gameplay is around 80+FPS.
I have never seen 144hz in real life, don't miss on anything.
Also I don't mind 30fps in certain games.
Am I the only one who really doesn't get the "low framerate hurts the eyes" meme?
Framerate matters more for gameplay and input latency. It's why Nuclear Throne being 30fps is a legitimate flaw, not because it looks ugly but because the game plays worse as a result, which is a shame because the base gameplay is fantastic.
On the other end of the spectrum, low framerate can give a unique feel to the art or graphics, while not hindering gameplay as much. Majora's Mask and SotC look and feel weightier due to their low framerates, for example. Obviously their art styles were made to take account for this, which is why they have so many particle effects and motion blur. It's also why Dark Souls looks bad at a low framerate.
You cannot see any difference above 60 fps. What you're describing is placebo.
>I have never eaten a good steak, don't miss on anything
>I have never slept in a comfortable bed, don't miss on anything
>I have never drank expensive Scotch, don't miss on anything
If you restrict yourself to shitty experiences of course those experiences end up being good enough for you, but once you get a taste for the finer things in life it becomes hard to go back.
>food analogy
I mostly play on PC, but don't mind lower fps in some console games, depends on the genre.
Also yes, if you do not care about participating in a particular activity you do not feel left out.
You should try to kill yourselft to not miss out on anythig, you consumer sheeplefaggot.
>Having money to buy nice things for the hobby I spend most of my time on being a bad thing
Feels good playing games maxed out on a 1440p 144Hz monitor and getting the best possible experience. How's your mother's E-machine treating you? You NEET faggot
Incorporating an ad hominem into your argument does not make it stronger.
I still think having 60fps is fine even OCing my monitor to 165Hz and reaching it in most older games because lol1080ti, it's just jumping between the two like if you have multiple monitors that it's pretty jarring
now 30fps on the other hand is awful
Well he is not wrong. If you spend a lot of your time staring at the screen might aswell buy a good one then. It is like upgrading your own vision.
Can't tell the difference in that gif. Got a better example?
get better eyeballs
seriously are you that brain dead user?
our eyes dont run in frames retard. its fluid.
imagine if monitors had the same power of our eyes. fps wouldn't even be a thing.
970 here. always 90+ fps on PC games. i don't play AAA games period because they always run like shit even though they look mediocre at best.
witcher 3 runs like shit and looks like shit.
I know this is Sup Forums and it's probably bait, but I wonder if there are actually people who can't tell the difference. I mean, is this even possible or is everyone either baiting or being delusional?
Most of it is bait but I imagine there's a small percentage that is stubborn/stupid as fuck and think it's true. Have you ever gone over to someone's house who just bought a new TV and they don't know how to set it up, and every movie or TV show looks like a Spanish soap opera? It's unnaturally smooth and looks bizarre as fuck. Some people just don't notice that shit, for whatever reason. Or they notice it but don't acknowledge something is wrong because they dropped 2 grand on a new TV and think "Wow this is an expensive TV it must be great!" The difference here is television shows and movies look terrible at higher frame rates than 24 and games with lower FPS than 60 are worse looking than 60+.
>Only white people would eat the head of anything
>Have a mac
>only played console
>didn't even know what FPS was before someone told me.
Nerd autism isn't helping anyone have a better life.
interpolation always looks terrible, native higher framerate shows and movies look good though, hobbit at 48fps looks smooth as hell
The 60FPS demonstration there is obviously preferable but I'm honestly not bothered enough by the 30FPS demonstration that I wouldn't play it if that was the best performance I could eke out, it's not a slideshow by any means
>play games at 144
>play games at 60
>play games at 30
>have fun and give zero fucks
>witcher 3 runs like shit and looks like shit.
Maybe the problem is not only with your gpu, but also with your eyes.
any action game or fast paced game in general needs a higher framerate to function properly, once frame times start hitting like 30ms, you start having trouble reacting to things properly
>mfw got a 240hz monitor on the way
Though it never really bothered me going back to 60hz outside of multiplayer FPS games.
>ASUS PG279Q
ayyyyy, top right corner light bleed like a motherfucker reporting in.
This
so
MUCH
THIS!
omg I can't say this enough like learn to have fun or something?
>cousin bought a 70 inch 1080p vizio a few years back, like 5 or 6
>runs it with the frame interpolation on
>frame interpolation is uaually shit on my samsung but holy hell, every edge turns into a pixelated or blurry mess on the slightest motion
>bring it up to him and he literally can not notice what i'm talking about
i had to watch the super bowl at this niggers house 2 years ago and it was disgusting.
i forgot to emphasize
>70 inch
>1080p
which is a combination from hell also. it looks like trash from the kitchen but it doesn't help that his couch is about 7 ft away.
It's not the look. It's the response time. The simple act of gliding the mouse across a 144hz screen will ruin 60fps for you
It's weird because I really only ever hear people talk about fps visually, when it's the sheer response rate that makes it so fucking good
Those soap operas aren't Spanish, user
I care a lot about the garbage pail kids they never lie
>i5
>surprised things run shit
wew
yeah, thats my main issue is that i made the jump to 1440p quite a few years ago and 1080p just looks like dogshit these days. With my 1070 and ivy bridge i can barely pull consistent 60fps on most new releases, Id kill for a 1440 120hz but having to to a full upgrade with video card and memory prices as they are is just not worth it. Damn shame though, 120hz is so goddamn nice.
What do you plan on using 240Hz for? No game can utilize that except shit like CS:GO. If you aren't getting 200+ FPS in games you aren't getting anything extra out of that high of a refresh rate.
If all you play is CS:GO and LoL then I guess that's fine.
>having standards is a bad thing
isn't it your bedtime american
What was the name of the cards that were similar to these. Not wacky packages. It had a dog being rushed and a teacher being eaten in a classroom.
Maybe you're just retarded. I can go from CSGO at 300+fps/144Hz to Bloodborne at 25fps/60Hz on the same screen and it takes seconds to adjust.
I'm literally puking right now. You millenials are disgusting.
Because most of us come from decent homes so gross and dark things are like a hobby, unlike your people who never had a papa and can't even stand to look through an opened door into a room with the light out.
Persona
>can still play games in (stable) 30fps and think it looks fine as long as the lighting is ok
>big texture size hype is just a dumb meme that inflates filesize
>only bothered by things that are just stylistically disgusting
damn it feels good to not be a spoiled baby
>literally
>You millenials
>He cares more about how many frames per second rather than how consistent the frame rate is
wtf is happening to siege
milenials include people born from 1982 to 1999, he could have been born in 2000
frame time is almost meaningless past 120hz
So is that thing between your legs but you've got one anyway
Quake Live, and maybe quake champions when they fix it. I have a 1080 anyways so I can get that refresh rate on a lot of games.
>CS:GO and LoL
no i'm not a pleb
>used to max 30 and even sub 30 due to toaster for ages
>play 60 at a friend's
>wow now i see why everyone says 30fps is shit
>play 144 at a game-test thing at some boot
>wow, even 60 looks like shit now
>still not bothered by 30
i can't be the only one
