How much do you guys care about lore in video games?

How much do you guys care about lore in video games?

I don't, that's fucking nerd shit.

Alot. Writing should make fucking sense.

I'm playing fallout 4 with a full exo suit nearly 500 damage res and 900 energy res.
I have war of the wasteland on max settings and a auto loot mod.
Lots of combat mods and raider synth super mutant over halls.

I have not been able to walk 100 meters with out a gang trying to rape my ass.

In no way is this law friendly but it's the most fun I have had in fallout.

It's not everything but it definitely affects my enjoyment. Nothing makes me alt-f4 quicker than a pop-culture reference in a serious game.

Lore is for young children and geeks who still get enjoyment out of things. Like how a five year old can play with a stick for hours. If you're that enthusiastic about a fake world, I want you dead.

A lot in an autistic way, unable to play a game without an in-depth universe/background and I flip my shit whenever a previously stated lore point is ignored or retconned in a sequel due to oversight

I care a small to reasonable amount

Why are there not more RPGs with guns included? After playing some Skyrim yesterday, I think I finally came into the conclusion I'm simply not into the whole "medieval but high fantasy magic swords elves yadayada" setting, which most of the more popular/best RPGs take place in.

Fallout is pretty much the only big RPG with guns I can think of. I've already played through em, what should come next?

>alot

not even a word, Mr. Writing

>Shadowrun trilogy
>Underrail
>Elex
Only few "RPGs" I could remember, there are lots of shooters with RPG elements tho if that's your thing

Your reply suggests that you want yourself to be dead. Maybe dont wait any longer?

kek

S.T.A.L.K.E.R might fit into what you are looking for.

Check of Shadow of Chernobyl

Might check out Elex, not quite what I was looking for. Shadowrun and Underrail are a bit closer, already did Shadowrun though. Guess that only leave one option.

It truly is suffering to be the one person who doesn't really enjoy the whole Game of Thrones setting.

Not much of an RPG, more like an FPS with a few light RPG elements, but pretty good.

I actually enjoyed the world and even the story to some extent, but something really bothers me about beating people up with steel swords and using bows. I hope Cyberpunk 2077 will fill this gap when it comes out in 2040.

because by having guns, the game becomes more closer to our reality and thus made more difficult to write by requiring the necessary rules put into the world

fantasy games in particular do not always need explanations and the rules can be bent in different ways

Wasteland 2 is really good. Though i suspect not all will agree with me

I suppose that makes some degree of sense. I see it's very common to end up playing Skyrim with the whole "stealth archer" sorta build, but really I was just annoyed the whole time at how inefficient of a weapon I had. Might just go purely magic, that's usually fun.

Give another decade then guns will be fantasy

Some investment in blacksmithing and alchemy will let you get yourself stuck in a stat boosting loop where you can craft ridiculously overpowered weaponry. You'll probably still want to drop the game after a short while though.

>Nobody mentioned Deus ex.

Maybe you should read my ABC before reading video games.

Oh yeah. Deus Ex (both the classic and Human Revolution) were great. Oddly enough, seems RPGs with guns that are also an FPS like Deus Ex or Fallout are pretty rare, there's a a few more to choose from if you consider top down/isometric shooters in the vein of the original Fallouts, though.

even the box arts show how much thought was put into these games
>fallout 1
>let's show a brotherhood of steel paladin, as they represent a group the player will meet later in the game, and is an overall intimidating figure
>fallout 2
>everyone already knows about the brotherhood of steel, let's use an enclave soldier, as they represent the antagonists and are also an intimidating firgure
>fallout 3
>let's just use a brotherhood of steel paladin because they were sort of the good guys in the first game, and are the good guys in our game
>fallout nv
>let's show an ncr ranger in combat armor to show one of the two major factions, who aren't quite has bulky as a brotherhood paladin or an enclave soldier, but still looks threatening
>fallout 4
>lol let's just use another brotherhood of steel paladin, since we pretty much just made that the face of fallout, rather than what they actually stood for in the first game

you could actually skip meeting the brotherhood of steel in the 1st game

i wish that they would go back to that system: the brotherhood of steel would be in every game as optional NPCs but are very hard to find
