I honestly don't see it being inferior to Baldur's Gate 2. I can really see Deadfire being this generation's Baldur's Gate 2. Will it be as beloved in the future? Maybe. With mods we can have an infinite amount of subclasses and dialogue options.

She's great. I got my watercolor portrait thanks to her. Spent hours messing around with filters and none of it looked even a tenth as good.

custom portraits can just be dropped in the gui/portraits folder. I don't think they have custom sounds, but if you could find the folder and files you could probably figure it out and swap them.

Imoen is actually cuter than in the first game, same with Viconia. But generally BG1 portraits were much better.

Will we finally get a cool Aumaua NPC? Two of the four factions are heavily incorporated by them. So far, Kana Rua and Maneha suck and everyone else is too minor to count.

Maia Rua will be the best waifu in the game, so yeah.

you can use custom soundfiles, my version of the game had Jaheira's soundfiles wrong (every time she took damage the game played one of her long reputation rants instead of the standard "ouch") and I remember fixing it placing a sound file in the override folder

So much better it's ridiculous. Can I just cut those out and use them in-game?

Know what would be nice? If they hired actual writers for the narrative design instead of twenty years old literary rejects.
But good writing is not flashy enough to win sales from screenshots and trailers, I guess.

actual writers can make more money working on tv or on their own shit. obsidian is not a well paying gig and they have layoffs all the fucking time. as soon as their writers get recognized they generally bail.
