How is this series of FF games, Never seen anyone talk about them
How is this series of FF games, Never seen anyone talk about them
i actually fucking loved that game on gamecube
played it to level 80 or something
end game gets repetitive though especially once you have Firaga/Blizzaga/Thundaga and just merc everything
This word is thrown around a lot around here, but it really is a comfy series. The atmosphere, settings, music, it's all very inviting in a way I haven't really seen with too many games. What it is not is a great action game, though, so if you're looking for excitement go somewhere else.
This is the only Final Fantasy i played and i loved it.
It's one of the only Final Fantasies I haven't played and there' no possible way it's worse than anything else SE has shit out in the last decade or so.
I definitely have some fond memories of this game.
If you manage to get a group together to play the original from start to finish it's maximum comf. I don't know about the rest of the series on the DS but playing the original with my siblings is still one of my favorite memories over 10 years later.
That fucking OST though
youtube.com
The original one on GameCube is godlike but you have to play it multiplayer
The rest are all mediocre
>those storybook intros to every new area, even the depressing ones like Tida
I loved that shit. The world seemed so alive.
>you have to play it multiplayer
Guess I'll never play it
great times playing this when I was younger, I have it on dolphin but I haven't tried it yet
it's way better when playing multiplayer though and I have no idea how dolphin handles the GBA controller style
The first game is amazing.
The other spinoffs are trash.
9.5/10 atmosphere
9/10 OST
9/10 graphics
7/10 gameplay
9/10 overall imo
I love Crystal Chronicles
even beat it too, despite having no friends.
and I love the entire series too, even if most people think they're trash
beaten it multiple times with different friends.
I went out of my way to get 4 SPs and 4 cables to do so myself. But that was years ago, and I dont think I have those sps anymore.
Really wish a modern version would be released for the switch.
im planning on making a game in unreal similar to it because i loved it.
Under the "it's fun with friends" excuse it's still an okay dungeon crawler with a fantastic setting. The game just becomes exponentially more enjoyable as a shared experience since cherishing personal memories is basically the central theme and the best way to build them is with others.
final level one was so good
>tfw my numale friend told me he never beat the final boss/saw the ending
this game is a casual filter.
>if you run out of memories on the final boss you don't get to retry the fight but get kicked back to your last save
It's my favourite game of all time, I've had countless adventures, failures, arguments and victories and most importantly, memories.
I always try to show the game to people who haven't played it before.
Carrying the chalice around is awful. I wish there was more to the combat than one melee combo, but I do like fusing magicka together with teammates for stronger spells. I liked it enough to put together the best gear for each race, but I don't think I'll ever revisit it.
I found the setting really compelling, though. I think the sequel games sort of missed the appeal of Crystal Chronicles.
At the start of each level, get you and your friends to look at each other's bonuses, whoever sounds like they have to avoid the combat the most or who has one of the "pick up x" bonuses gets to be the chalice bitch, but along with that try to make sure people will end up carrying equally. That way every one shares the burden, and honestly it's not that bad if you do want to scramble for loot first etc, carry the chalice right over to the enemies and then drop it so you can be in the mix for loot when they die.
every year I complete the game with my friend. We take a whole weekend for it and far some weapons
I think an action replay let you skip out on it which would be handy as fuck
>tfw you and a friend ignored the poems when you were kids and ended up having to look up what to do in the desert
youtube.com
Great music though.
I never would have finished this game if it wasn't for internet guides.
>being this much of a fag
>tfw i have a clavat symbol tattoo
at least I'm a degenerate with good taste
I loved playing the first game with my brothers growing up. Shame that I have no one to play it with now.
>the feels
I got an action replay for the Gamecube like last week and saw it on there
>clavat
>good taste
mckillyourself
The whole Black Knight storyline hits me on a deep and personal level.
How much time did I waste betting on cow race
I would kill for a new game
played it in middle school, got to the last dungeon but couldn't beat it by myself. played with a couple friends but we didn't get enough chances to play and beat it.
a decade later, I lived with those same friends in college. we bought all the cables, dug up the gameboys, gamecube and disc, and finally beat it. good feels.
would love an enhanced port on the Switch.
Lilty > Yuke > Calvat >>>>>>>>> Selkies
None of it really hit me when I was younger but going back and replaying the game, too much stuff hit me hard. Tida, Black Knight, Conall Curach and the selkies, the game really strikes the heart.
A room full of screaming friends as you bet on 4 cows and then fail to win was good fun.
>can't jump on the trampoline unless you're a selkie
>you'll get robbed unless you're a selkies
why are selkies such scums
Beat it once singleplayer and have started plenty co-op runs with a best friend but we've never seen any of those through to the very end. Overall a good games that deserved a proper sequel to refine what was there. Daemon's Court is best track.
I liked the mild racism between the races
First is good, rest are meh but still decent. Sucks that they don't focus on it as much as they should desu senpai.
Other than the Selkie town and the place that you had to pay to get into unless you were a Yuke was there anything else?
It got a score of
Needs-4-people-with-GBAs-and-link-cables/10
I'm still mad about the wii game. They basically made a spinoff for a spinoff series.
GOAT soundtrack and graphics
This and Echoes of Time are my two favourite FF games. Loved them so much more than the main series for some reason.
Lilties believe they're outright superior and I'm pretty sure they had some kind of imperalist war against all the other tribes in their history
I remember when you first start out the game
when you run into your very first caravan after leaving town
its a caravan from the capital with Lilties
so they'll comment on what race you are
>Lilties believe they're outright superior
they are the master race afterall
really boring
I just need two more cables and three more friends to relive my childhood nostalgia
I really enjoyed the side quests and interactions you could have with the other caravans
>That quest where you find a love note in the destroyed town
>Link it back to a pair of elders in the Clavat village and the Selkie island
>After you head back to the destroyed village you find them dead beneath the tree where you found the note
Damn
>Raem in FF spinoffs fucking never.
My salt is eternal.
wow I comp^leted the game multiple times and never saw that. I'd get excited everytime gurdy would show up
If you're playing a Liltie they'll send you a letter reminiscing on the good old days when Liltie armies steamrolled the world.
>that time when the caravan from Shella bought "a model of the world"
>later when it started to get moldy, they said they knew it was just a loaf of bread the whole time
nigga they got swindled
ebay is your friend, maybe you can even get the friends there as well
if only they didn't deplete the mines
they would've been able to conquered the world
Collecting Miasma to keep your hometown alive was more compelling than most full mainline plots.
The original GameCube title is a blast, especially with friends. The rest of the titles kept but toned down the multiplayer aspects and weren't as good as a result. I think Echoes of Time is probably the second best title.
>playing with friends back when it released
>boss fight, nobody wants to carry the bucket, so we're all fighting about it while tackling the thing
>person carrying the bucket puts it down to attack
>boss beelines for the bucket and knocks it across the room
>everyone scrambles
Good times
No, you see, the mold represents miasma and how the world is deteriorating. It's a dynamic model. Very complicated stuff.
It was pretty good
multiplayer gimmick was bullshit though
>played this with friends ALL the time back in high school
>all four of us gravitated towards different races, so it was perfect
>named our hometown Da Hood
>leave hometown to start our adventure
>NPC talks to us
>"Hey there, Da Hood-landers."
>ofw
So many fond memories of this game. We also tried forever and ever to free the Carbuncles or find a secret with them.
The Gamecube game is my favourite game of all time.
Every other game with the Crystal Chronicles label on it is mediocre to terrible.
The fact that they didn't make a direct sequel on Wii is a crime. Everyone has a DS which requires no additional wires and the Wii has Gamecube memory card slots to access your memories from the first game.
This is one of the most civil threads I've seen on Sup Forums
we're all suffering from no sequel
Does it end on a cliffhanger?
The sequels were not what I wanted. I wanted more of the first game so much.
You can't add Wii Shop Points to the Wii Shop Channel after the end of the month. Is it worth investing in the two Crystal Chronicles WiiWare games?
THIS MAKES ME SO MAD!
all other crystal chronicles game are shit
No, it's a totally self contained experience. How they would go about following the story on isn't entirely clear since the source of strife and monsters is banished in the end. That's not to say you couldn't, but there's more room for a prequel, though again since you know how things turn out that might be slightly pointless too.
It'd probably be better off with a new world and story like the main series FF games.
Mediocre. It's a mindless button masher playing it singleplayer. With more players someone gotta carry the chalice which is not fun at all, and at 4 players it's just a clusterfuck. The spell combinations either can't be organized with your group, or are broken as hell. The GBA screens are hardly useful, we never used them really. The GBA controls are pretty bad as well since you got to use the d-pad. Story and music is comfy though. I think it gets more hype from some corners of the web due to just how hard it is to set up, when in reality it's just a crappy version of spiral knights.
Selkies > Calvat >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lilty > Yuke
Clavat > Yuke > Selkie = Lilty
>>The spell combinations either can't be organized with your group
>not making a deal with the Clavat of your group to be your magical assistant to cast various tier 3 spells, gravity, and holy everywhere
Nothing could stop us after we farmed all the magic rings
Thinking about playing this,is it bearable on Dolphin without any multiplayer?
Incorrect, Selkie are the best race. Kick back and do fun shit.
>Yuke > Clavat
Otherwise, you're right.
Selkie > Clavat > Yuke > Lilty
Selkies had a higher focus speed and an instant dodge with little compromise to their other abilities, Clavats were good at everything with no special traits, Yukes had faster and farther magic casts and unlimited invulnerability to make up for their shit melee, and Lilties functioned the same as Clavats except they had longer magic cast times with a shorter reach.
Clavats are best
Lilty
>Best weapon has 5 higher base damage than anyone else's best weapon at 40 instead of 35
>Literally nothing else, and the 5 damage doesn't end up being very significant
>Worst defend action
Their only benefit is base melee damage and that's not a great one.
Selkie
>Ever so slightly higher movespeed than the other tribes
>Fastest charge times on focus attacks, but focus attacks aren't as good as Clavats
>Second worst defend action
Their only benefit is charge speed for focus attacks and it's not a great one.
Yuke
>Highest range and base damage on spells, but only second best spell caster overall
>Worst melee fighter
>Best defend action in the game, just makes you invulnerable
Good with spells, happy to have a Yuke around. But their melee sucks and Clavats are better casters anyway.
Clavat
>Second best raw melee damage
>Highest damage focus attack in the game
>Alt best weapon has second best focus attack for single player
>Best magic user due to fastest cast speed of any race
>Highest defence stat of any race
>Second best defend action, almost makes you invulnerable but just from the front. But all attacks are directional anyway, and it still reduces damage from other directions.
Their melee is second best, their focus attacks are the best, they're the best magic users, they have the highest defence, the defend is only second best. There is basically not reason to not be a Clavat.
Oh and if you really want to min/max female Clavats attack ever so slightly faster than males and have easier access to an HP regen accessory in the early game.
This thread is making me so nostalgic in a terrible way. I freaking loved the period around when this game came out, vidya was fun, I had no worries in the world other than grade school, I always had a game to look forward to and enjoyed replaying a lot of my games while waiting for new games. Looking back, I feel like I underappreciated this time period at the time and how great it was.
I just want to get home from school, turn on Pokemon or Digimon or a myriad other cartoons that were on at the time, pick up my GBC/GBA and play it, play my gamecube, hang out with my friend who ended up moving away, and not have to worry about life at all. I want to go back, Sup Forums, so badly. I imagine what it'd be like to go back and relive my younger days with my current level of knowledge and growth, just to experience the great things again while fixing a lot of mistakes.
Oh gosh it hurts.
I personally went for the Ribbon in Moschet Manor to improve my magic early on, which also required being female.
Is there any way to emulate this and play with some bros over the internet?
Maybe one day Steam will provide an actual good and useful remake of a good game.
In the long run you get the cast time -15 accessory anyway since it's what makes Clavats even better magic users than Yukes. Support spells don't benefit from the magic stat, and the rate at which you cast lets you out DPS Yukes anyway despite slightly lower base damage. And magic range ends up being irrelevant since scrolling the cursor that far just slows down your casting anyway.
Clavats are meant to be the most average but end up being the best or second best at literally everything.
You can play Melee over the internet, If someone was so inclined I don/t see why they couldn't for this
Yeah, I just looked up the accessories. I knew I wasn't crazy for preferring female Clavats to everything else.
