It's the Dark Souls of Assassins Creed games.
There you go, you dumb game journalist, I just wrote your article for you, now fuck off.
dark souls of dishonored
>can someone please redpill me on the Thief games? Is it like Assassin's Creed?
What the fuck did you just say about me?
play them you fucking taffer casual
No. They're actually good. Except the last one
>Is it like Assassin's Creed?
Fortunately not.
It's the King's Quest of Grand Turismo, without a doubt
It's an exploration heavy stealth game with particularly well done level design and world-building all with the framework of being a master thief. Very similar to how thieves are in a D&D campaign but without RPG elements.
If you can stomach dated graphics it's a wild ride.
The cutting edge 1999 AI is garbage but the levels are still great.
they are the dark souls of stealth games
It's a good game. I wont tell you it's the best stealth game but it's up there in the list
...
...
Don't post that old one.
Thief 1 10/10
Thief 2 10/10
Thief 3 8/10
"Thief" 4 0/10
There's info on it that's worth posting.
Yeah but the point of that image is to get newfags to play it, and newfags don't like useful tweaks because they're brainlets
I'll get to updating the new one eventually. I don't want to include the texture filtering bit because it's a guide for people getting into the series, yet its inclusion makes it seem like a must-have tweak even though there's the tradeoff of fucking up shadows.
Ok.
I still think you need to get rid of the Troy McClure reference. Comes off as condescending.
Anybody who needs that advice deserves condescension.
But I'll change it and add some other shit once I get the chance to.
>Troy McClure reference
?
I got the 2014 thief for $4 on steam, it's not that bad, why the hate?
Regarding the controls, you can perhaps mention the difference between TDP and TMA. Can you transfer the user.bnd from TMA to TDP?
youtube.com
>texture filtering
does gold only have that or 2 also has it?
2 too, but it doesn't look too good.
Is there even any noteworthy control differences? I don't think tafferpatcher comes with the same preset as TFix but hopefully by the time they've gotten that far they'll have figured this kind of thing out.
It also works in 2, but looks even worse. It's a tradeoff even in TG because it makes shadows extremely jagged.
>it's not that bad
yes it is
em did not understand what made thief good
What the hell, my steam versions don't have this
TDP has a separate button for running forward, while TMA pressing the button puts you in a 'running state'.
Gold without texture filtering, for reference. You can get used to the shadows, but I've stopped using it.
I'll assume people realize you can change the controls if they don't like it by the time they hit T2.
this is what my gold looks like without tweaks
That's normal, though I don't know what's up with the blur around the edges.
i think that wall texture in particular is stretched
For even closer comparison.
It seems it is.
so is the game any fun beyond all the tweaking?
It's a non pussy version of Dishonored with a great story, great lore and great universe in general. If you liked Dishonored, you will love Thief (1&2).
There are no superpowers like blink though, you are dependent on your skills and your equipment.
what? its fun without tweaking
do you actually play with that tweak? it looks bad to me
so did Dishonored copy Thief or is it something different? I heard the last Thief game copied Dishonored, is that true?
I did, because I like the unfiltered textures, but the shadows got bothersome so I stopped, hence why I didn't include it in the newer version of the guide up above.
Thief should look like this if you use tweaks like Enhancement pack (which ups the resolution of original textures)
I heard you're so fat and ugly nobody would wanna fuck you, is that true?
Dishonored is somewhat inspired by Thief but it's more of an action game and the stealth mechanics are much more simplistic.
Thi4f seems like it took some aesthetic and narrative cues from Dishonored but the gameplay is much different.
Gross.
>lets make everything brown
Some of the game's maps seem messy as fuck. I appreciate the massive attention to detail, but still.
which level in particular?
he's not sure
This post reeks of cancer.
which game is best?
The first two are very similar and which one's better comes down to personal taste. They're the ones worth playing.
Atmosphere, lore: Thief 1
Gameplay, level design: Thief 2
I personally prefer 1st, 2nd is great too.
pretty much what said, but there's not really that grand of a difference.
this
also this
i prefer thief 2
What are the ramifications of the death of a pivotal figure of your religion.
...
Thoughts on shalebridge cradle?
can anyone give me a quick rundown on what this game is about apart from a thief stealing stuff? I keep hearing it has good lore but not much on what the themes are
Only just the Thieves Guild and Haunted Cathedral. The rest are tight.
those levels are why i prefer thief 2, but return to the cathedral is great
secret society of "wizards" pagan god and it's beastly minions and worshippers and religious zealots all rolled in to one neat package. Also stealing.
Thief 3 8/10
I want this meme to end
Deadly Shadows was awful
is it like a fantasy deus ex?
You sneak into buildings, hide in the shadows, and thump guards on the head. Then you steal stuff, as well as complete your objective. The quests and environments are very different, you could be stealing from a lord's mansion, or sneaking into a religious prison to set someone free.
not really, garrett doesnt care for politics or sensationalism, he steals shit to pay the bills and because hes good at it
America exists today safe from invasion because walls are manned by people willing to die to protect all the dead weight SJWs living a free for all inside. The nuclear deterrent prevents America’s enemies from making a move. When other unfriendly nations have nukes and don’t care about mutually assured destruction, it’s game over for the planet and if anyone survives they won’t have time for any pussy snowflake gender political bullshit.
and JC does?
I think it's thi4f that made people revise their opinions on ds. it was mercilessly shat on before that
i didnt mean to imply that
>theres now a generation of players who think Assassins Creed is stealth
Thanks for making me feel old
You don't have any say in the way the plot plays out. There are no interactive dialogues.
Ok
Ah, so you too have played Lord Beilman's Estate.
Best stealth of any games ever made, some of the thickest atmosphere of any games in history. Thief 1/Gold and 2 remain among my favorite games ever.
look at this taffer
...
I feel like I'm playing the game completely wrong whenever I knock out a guard but I can't help myself, sometimes there's just too many of them and so little shadows
you have a blackjack for a reason
Just make sure to avoid the HD texture mod. The only thing that looks worse than low poly + blurry textures is low poly + textures tiled to shit. Also pic related, lol.
I guess I've been tainted by the mindset of 1337 ghosters
Modder gfs are built for the BIG BLACK JACK
>1337 ghosters
?
just people who consider ghosting(playing without ever getting detected or interacting with the guards in any way) the only proper way to play
Brigade at the beginning of the 100 years' war - they went through the whole thing without anyone seeing them.
>Wake up
>See this
What to do?
isn't that more how splinter cell is played?
so while all that is happening you're just a thief in the background looting everyone?
Nah, Garrett's picked up by the secret society as a homeless child because they recognized his talent but once he gets older he leaves them to be an independent thief because they were cramping his style.
Jesus Christ, thieves' guild is so fucking bad. it would be salvageable if they cut the sewers in half or more
...
Why are barrels such a pain in the ass in Dromed.
>video games can't be ar-
Yes, but for some reason everyone wants to stealth around a medieval game like everyone has firearms and can instantly shoot and kill them if they get caught...so they just hit the quickload key...
THERE BETTER BE NO ONE TAFFIN' ABOUT OVER THERE
>video games can't be ar-
>mfw seeing a zombie getting btfo'd by a hammerite in cragscleft for the first time
incompetence incompetence incompetence
I savescum because most human guards can't be outrun and they cover a huge fucking area when they search you in alert mode
>mfw seeing mechanists getting btfo by hammerite skellington
>bioware remakes mount&blade.webm
>when you realize Tomb Raider games were doing it wrong from the start
