>>In the late summer of 1462, nine years after the conquest of Constantinople, Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror visited “the ruins of Ilion and the traces of ancient Troy” on his way to the island of Lesbos.[2] He was interested in “the tombs of the heroes Achilles and Ajax,” as the “vir doctus et Imbriota nobilis Hermodorus Michael Critobulus” relates in his History , [3] which he had written before 1466. Kritoboulos continues that Mehmed praised the heroes of Antiquity for having found the poet Homer as their panegyrist (Kritoboulos himself obviously could not come up to these expectations).Mehmed evidently imitated Alexander the Great, who visited the tomb of Achilles and exclaimed: “O Achilles, as a great man you have found a great herald in Homer!” [4] But then the sultan’s speech changed to politics and turned out to be a statement on his ideology and his own role in history:

>>God has reserved for me, through so long a period of years, the right to avenge this city and its inhabitants. For I have subdued their enemies and have plundered their cities and made them the ‘spoils of the Mysians.’ [5] It was the Hellenes and Macedonians and Thessalians and Peloponnesians who ravaged this place in the past, and whose descendants have now, after a long period of years, through my efforts paid the just penalty for their injustice to us Asiatics at that time and so often in subsequent times.[6]

aww damn, he has his dirty shoes on the couch

>We
literally WE

they usually weren't done this dirty. they usually didn't even have their cities deleted. let alone slandered for all time even to this day because we know fuck all else but what scratching around in the dirt of ruins can tell.

Romans were scum and deserved a worse death than what they got.

>more bawwing
What a shit attitude towards history.

i'm not the one defending literal destroyers of history.

Check out Lucius Vorenus' wife's bush in Kamasutra - A Tale Of Love.

Worst of the pre-SEGA Total Wars. Very unbalanced and the unit stacks got quite ridiculous by the time you got to the civil war.
Shogun was the best balanced out of all of them and the AI actually worked most of the time.

>Caring about balance in a singleplayer game

that series was literally a porno.... that took place in ancient rome.

Don't shittalk Rome it's great. I didn't think there was an absurd amount of nudity honestly, especially for an HBO series.

Rome got ridiculously easy and repetitive in the late game and the AI was too easy to exploit

>The senate demands you disband your army

Why was Rome 2 so shit? Was it nostalgia goggles? I really did try to play it but the battles were so slow and boring and the campaign didn't feel right. Look, I just want to fight rebels and barbarians for the glory of rome, that's it. The trade and diplomacy garbage was held at too high of a priority.

CACK

Try Europa Barbarorum 2

based cack poster

I only ever played Rome and Medieval 2 for years and when I finally played Rome 2 (EE) it blew my fucking mind how far the series had come.

>Shogun was the best balanced out of all of them and the AI actually worked most of the time
That's because they decided Rome didn't need an AI, they had fancy graphics. A smart AI was just too much hard work. Shogun AI was almost human in how it acted. Meanwhile Rome battlefield AI was "attack closest unit/attack unit shoot at it" and campaign AI was "build most expensive unit and move towards nearest city"

GO BACK TO GAUL

I'll not deny it friends I have a Gallic look about me, but I'm as solid Roman as you are.

>play a "realism" mod
>time to conquer Rome itself
>SPQR praetorians are superpowered gods among mere mortals, can't be killed, cut down swathes of men each
>investigate
>"senate faction praetorians are strong to represent the difficulties of attacking Rome"

Caesar did nothing wrong, the gauls had it coming.

SNIVELRY

Fuck off Rome is great. Blows current HBO shows out of the water

>Playing RTR instead of Roma Surrectum or Europa Barbarorum
You fucked up

Reminder that ATTILA is the best

NAPOOPAN is the best.

are you aware that even the general who destroyed Carthage came home and shit on the Roman populace who made him do it during their victory parade for him, to the extent he was shunned and eventually assassinated for it?

>Whoever has the longest line wins

Anyone have tried Total War Arena? Any thoughts?

>tfw sending out honorius as a single general

Fuck man, you're terminally retarded.

>Engine shits itself during large battles and becomes almost unplayable on modern systems

I'll admit I've been going through some of the more modern Total Wars and all of their cinematics are fantastic, I really like the apocalyptic feel of the Attilla ones, and the trailer they released for the Hannibal DLC for Rome 2 was amazing.

But I always have nostalgia for Rome 1's cinematics.

CACK!

>Britannia Total War is them doing the addon from Medieval again
>we might have to get Jerusalem Total War, Baltic Total War and Americas Total War before we get an actual Medieval 3 Total War

>Still no bronze age total war

that's a creative one

>pick red roman scum
>get mission to conquer gaul scum
>attack silicia, carthage and the greeks instead
>brutii and scipio AI is too dumb to figure out what to do next
>get cucked out of their missions
>now conquer everything for the senate
>roman civil war ends in a few turns

Is it okay to play like this?
It seems like the most efficient way.

Sea trade was too overpowered in Rome 1
Whoever owned Greece made big bank.

>Jerusalem Total War
That would sell like fucking hotcakes in this climate

She aged like dogshit god damn.

It's likely that's exactly how everybody played their second, if not first Roman run. It's only logical.

>singleplayer

inbred fuck

>the only faction where the mercenaries actually have the same color scheme and therefore don't look ridiculously out of place
worth playing just for that alone

of course it's important you stupid faggot i don't want to play for 2 hours and get bored because it's stupidly easy
you're the kind of retard that nutotal war is built for starting with rome

TRVE ROMAN BREAD FOR TRVE ROMANS.

>Roman steel
????

Nah, Rome 2 is just a broken shitpile.

I feel like a bitter old fuck but the army limits really ruins the new games for me. Not being able to stack cities how I want or trade units easily is fucking shit and I do not understand why it was decided, or how it became accepted.

That would be pretty good.

someone post that picture from /his/ (or was it Sup Forums?) about Suffering to Deserving it ratio.

was he autistic?

>When your faction of literally whos turns into the new light of the world after the romans and huns bite it.

TRIARIIIII

>Triarii had to be told to sit on their hands at the back lines to stop them charging into the battle like fucking psychopaths
>Legates and Generals sometimes had to put Triarii at the front because if they went too long without killing something they would mutiny

Historia Civilis is great

Atia best girl. Vorenus's wife a shit.

Fuck wimmin, Pullo is the only thing Vorenus needs

it destroys phalanxes by pure meme magic

Has there ever been a more broken unit?

Should've upgraded barracks instead of just spamming Principes, pleb.

I want to learn more about tunnel bears

Oath warriors in Rome 2.

>lindybeige
lmao

>Rome 2
what's that? I can't hear you. You're breaking up!!!

I recognize some of these people!

It was pretty good. Liked some of those non-historical units, like elite Eqyptians and bribing those amazons in Hyperboria.

But something that stops me from going back and playing it again is how an enemy army composed of only a few units can lay siege to one of your cities filled with 20 units and all your units take a small amount of damage before you can chase them away. Worse if they're units I can't train there.

It's enough to make me just play Medieval 2 instead.

Best AI to date.

HE WAS A CONSOLE OF ROME

I mean, the logic is hard to argue with

Just because you want to meme on the mediocre sequel doesn't mean that they are any less broken.

Can you guess what this ancient roman graffiti was about?
