I'm not entirely sold on Extra Mode being exclusive for Bandanna Dee, because he's portrayed as a helper in the title screen. I think it's more likely that Spear is an available ability and/or you can recruit non-helper characters like RtDL.

Porting Bandana Dee over from RtDL is easy. Making new animations for Waddle Doo is haaarrddd. We can't port those from SSU, those are sprites.

You guys know that all this cool shit we're speculating on isn't going to happen, right? I mean, for Christ's sake, it's in 30 FPS. They're obviously not going out of their way to make this a definitive, feature-rich game with fanservice and tons of care and polish put into it. This isn't going to be the game everyone wanted. It's just going to be another iterative Kirby game with nothing special about it, kind of like the last few.
