How do we bring back the 90s quality of video games?
How do we bring back the 90s quality of video games?
It's gone forever.
go download them from torrent sites
oh, quality of.. make a new game. not every game has been made. You dont have to copy everything else. There where lots of games then. YOu think every game was just made in the 90's? is every game based off of reality? so you can't, do, another one?
stfu
Limit hardware.
This; any attempt to replicate 90s quality will just be a failed effort to be overly retro. Devs need to find out new things that work well.
Make gaming a niche hobby by encouraging the masses to jump onto another hobby.
You can’t, that was a product of its time, and the people who made them. Those days aren’t coming back. People only make games to make lots of money now. Wanting to make a game for the sake of making a fun game is over.
Get rid of all women from the industry.
You go back and re-play them, and occasionally go to the recommendation threads and see what other anons like.
These
I'd say Cuphead and KC:D did a good job in getting that "making games for yourself" idea. It's niche, but it's there. They just don't have enough marketing to compete with AAAs though.
Basically this. The best 90's videogames that we remember so fondly are basically labors of love. They were only made possible in sweatshop conditions that just don't fly anymore, especially with the exponential amount of effort it takes to make games in 3D.
Literally this.
There are games now that are as good as, and even better than, 'games from the 90's'.
Notice how I said there are, not all, not most, but that there ARE games with the same level of quality.
Faggots like OP like to cherry pick the best games from their favorite era (90's in this case), and then compare it to whatever AAA/indie garbage is currently big (Battelgrounds, or whatever), and shit on the later to feel special and above others.
t. '90's' gamer who realizes 99% of games from then are absolute trash.
Give examples.
Why, so you can go "NAH TAHS GARBAGE" after each one?
Well yeah, this is Sup Forums after all.
Good thread then.
This. The era was not as good as you remember. MP was dominated by arena shooters. FTS and take off the nostalgia goggles.
Gaming needs a new vibe, not retro.
We already have consoles
Remove businessmen.
>99%
Let’s not exaggerate now.
>MP was dominated by arena shooters
I’m not seeing the issue here.
Show me a game from today with the same level of polish and content as Chrono Trigger.
>that punctuation and grammar
Neck yourself so I never have to read your drivel again.
You do realize how many shitty NES, Genesis, PC Engine, SNES, PS1, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gameboy, Game Gear, Lynx, Jaguar and PC, (and everything else) games there are?
I know it's an exaggeration, but I really don't think it's that far off. Maybe more like 80%.
Nah, sounds like you're all set to shoot down whatever I suggest (not that I've played Chrono Trigger, I owned a genesis), but seeing as it's only ~25 or so hours long, wouldn't be hard to find something that long from the past few years.
You seem confidant in your opinion.
Okay then, let me ask you this. Is CT your favorite game? I mean, you obviously brought it up to defeat my opinion. If it isn't, it atleast must be one of your favorites, right? A shining example of 90's gaming, right?
How the fuck I'm I supposed to bring up a game that has to meet your subjective specifications of being as good as a particular game (CT) which I've never played?
As well, I feel no compulsion to prove that games now have as much merit as games of yester year, ie; I'm not the one missing out.
>he says this while he posts the worst persona game
Get fucked
I'm not that guy, you just shouldn't make a point you aren't willing to back up.
Maybe he just used chrono trigger because it's a well known and well respected game. One that a lot of people who say they're fans of the 90's will have played. I never owned a snes but I emulated it because of all the people crying about how it's the magnum opus of mankind.
stop making cinematic games inb4 out of this world or flashback because you actually played those games instead of playing qte cutscenes
confidEnt
most japanese games are still pure and good but anything indie or triple a is gonna be absolute shit and FPS games are at an all time low that makes 2007 look like 1999
this
play shovelware knight
Quarter muncher bullshit.
the 90s were fascist and racist and bigoted
and there is NO PLACE for FASCISM or RACISM or BIGOTRY in VIDEO GAMES
>games now that focus solely on graphics are better now then an era where games focus solely on gameplay
>refusing to back up his argument
be careful buddy people wont be able to tell this is ironic and will actually take the bait
But if I can't have Facism in my video games how will I shoot Nazis? I'd shoot Communists but video game AI is meant to show some degree of competence which just breaks immersion against the reds.
fuck off and die, RACIST
>Not willing to back up
>Admitted that I haven't played one specific SNES rpg he wanted a comparison to.
You don't think too good, do you?
Have better taste
I really enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey and Neir Automata just like I did Super Mario 64 and Tomb Raider back in 5th gen
Not that other guy, but I just want to say that Corridors of Time is the most overrated song of Chrono Trigger. Holy shit, I have no idea why you cunts like it so much, when it's just grating as hell.
In b4 >what's the matter fag, can't handle sitars
No, I'm fine with sitars. I fucking love them in Breath of Fire IV. I know it's supposed to make Zeal seem "mystic", but outside of the chimes, it was clashing as hell, since Zeal looked barely any different than the medieval town in 600 AD save for being a floating island. It seemed so weird to get to Zeal and suddenly have this weak sauce remix of the main theme playing. Don't get me wrong, Chrono Trigger has good songs, but Corridors of Time ain't one of them.
It's your refusal to suggest anything and saying people will shoot it down is retarded, that's the point of making an argument/counter point.
>how do we bring back mountains of shovelware with a couple of gems?
no thanks
if you genuinely don't think games have improved in the past 20 years you might have autism or probably just don't enjoy videogames
fuck off to /vr/ thanks
No, I stopped myself from talking out of my ass.
How would I know what's better than CT?
What should I say? You're saying I should take a random guess? Or admit the CT is better than any game that's been made after it?
If I had come into a thread focus on CT and said "YOU GUYS LIKE OLD SHIT, NEW SHIT IS BETTER THAT CHRONO TRIGGER", then I'd be at fault. But that's not the case at all.
I don't make claims about things I've never played as I'm not as fucking retarded as the rest of Sup Forums.
Make a comparison with 90s games vs ones from today like the thred is about, you dolt.
Developers were doing all they could do to improve graphics in the 90s.
Guess you win, I haven't played one SNES game that was picked by some random user.
>I'm not as fucking retarded as the rest of Sup Forums.
And yet you're still replying. Get off the horse, you're just as filthy as the rest of us peasants "m'lord".
Get rid of the internet
DLC, day 1 patches, DRM, "live services," obsession with online multiplayer, cheevos killing cheat codes. It's all the internet.
90s didn't have DLC, microtransactions, online DRM or SJWs.
>DLC
Expansion packs.
>day 1 patches
So you'd prefer a game to be broken forever? And don't give me any of that "oh well the devs will just make fixed games and won't rely on the consumers to bug test" that's bullshit.
>DRM
Code wheels, codes hidden in manuals, etc.
>cheevos killing cheat codes
Oh, you were just pretending to be retarded. Can't believe I fell for it.
You'd need to purge the soyboys too
>Expansion packs.
Had to justify the cost of physical distribution with content. Expansion packs completely revamped games and delivered allmost as much content as the original game they expanded upon. Only the Sims got away with the piecemeal bullshit we see today.
>So you'd prefer a game to be broken forever?
Back then they didn't release broken games because they knew they only had one shot.
>Code wheels, codes hidden in manuals, etc.
All superior to pozzing your computer's neghole with modern DRM malware
>Oh, you were just pretending to be retarded. Can't believe I fell for it.
A combination of cheevos, onlne multiplayer and dlc killed cheat codes. All internet.
So is this why Nintendo games are good?
