Mages are powerful as hell if you do it right. Getting your enchanting up and putting some perks into it lets you create multiple destruction enchantments and then you can dual cast expert level spells forever and stagger them every time. This isn't even factoring in the powerful high end conjuration minions either.

I practically ran out of things to do in Skyrim short of wandering the world and clearing every camp and cave and cabin and whatever I could find. I had more money than I knew what to do with, I had the best armor and weapons I could make and I enchanted them, my house had extra sets of armor and weapons on display, I was above level 90, I flipped my smithing skill more times than I remember making countless iron daggers, I ran out of quests in the main game and DLC and struggled to find new stuff, I was basically untouchable even on legendary difficulty. I've never put so much time into a single RPG, I had a lot of fun with it and once in a while I return to it to make new characters with weird builds but they never really pan out.

Vanilla unpatched skyrim was legitimately one of the most entertaining things I've ever played thanks to all the glitches and weird AI

>try to fast travel on a horse and I spawn 200 feet in the air, fall and you both die
>perpetual bullet time glitch that slowed down everything but me
>kill a dragon, leave some items in its corpse, come back to the same dragon come back to life, only invisible, and I have to throw fire at it to track it by the scorch marks
>J'zargo running off constantly and attacking enemies that I can't even see yet
>having a bounty so big in Riften that I have to amass a pile of bodies by abusing the ritual stone and fast travel so I can keep the guards occupied while I dick around there

So many things went wrong, and all the wrong things were wonderful.

I impose severe draconian RP rules on myself. First, the game can only be played on Legendary mode. Next, the only mod that gets used is Survival mode for added difficulty. No exploiting (merchant chests, terrain pathing, basket heading, etc) is allowed whatsoever.

After that, character creation. The character has to pick three major and three minor skills. Perks can not be put in any tree but those. No character can have both Enchanting and Smithing. They also pick their deity. Going into the game they can only use shrines of that deity or its approximation (Auriel = Akatosh, for example). If they worship a Daedra without a shrine, Meridia, for example, they can use no shrines. Next, they pick a birth sign and that will be the only standing stone that they use for the entire game. Finally, no making a new character until the latest Legendary Survival character has achieved at least level 50.

On pic related, I'm currently working on the Khajiit at around level 35. I'm thinking a Redguard poisonmaker next.
