Did he deserve to be fired?
Did he deserve to be fired?
yes, he dipped his pen in the company ink
he was ashamed of his words and deeds
yes, he's an overrated "idea guy" hack
No, WE deserved him being fired.
Yes. He was totally out of control with spending.
Yes, I agree fellow gamer.
His (((spending))) was ruining the game!
We almost didn't sell any copies because of him!
If not fired he needed a severe reprimand (which Kojima likely wouldn't have taken well and would've just soured relations even further).
My guess is there were multiple board meetings in which he was warned to stop going over his allotted budget and he kept just brushing those warnings off telling himself things like
>Oh, but the game NEEDS this influx of cash or it just won't be the story I'm trying to tell.
>These guys just don't understand how games work, of course I'm going to need more money at some point in production!
>They just don't understand my passion, I'll show them once MGS5 sells like crazy!
Kojima really does seem like a nice guy, but he isn't the kind of guy you can give a blank check to. I have no doubt that Sony is keeping him on a very tight leash.
All that being said, fuck Konami.
>fired
>still get to keep the company's name even though the company that "fired" me owns the name
If he went over budget/past deadlines with multiple warnings, yes, he deserved to be fired.
Do you really not know the difference between a dev team and a publisher?
Is he just an alternate reality Tommy Weisseau?
So far yes
MGS1 was amazing.
MGS2 wasn't
MGS 3 was shit and couldn't copy Splinter Cell's controls propperly. Wasted opportunity
MGS4 had about 1-2 hours of gameplay. Only the first act was OK. Transparency effects slowed down the game to unplayable 20fps.
Peace Walker was good except for the drawn cut scenes, 20fps, not everything being modeled in engine eg mates were a picture instead of 3D model in the viewer, not serious though only 1 was.
Ground Zeroes was great but finished in 1-2 hours by accident, that's it?
TPP was about 1/8th done, could have been top ten material, but wasn't serious.
Shouldn't have fired him. He was the problem but he may have helped production. Someone should have bee put in place to keep him in check, so the game didn't become a parody and reached greatness. Also level designers should have been hired to make highly dangerous areas. Budget should have been increased so battles could be on a larger scale. Should have made it 240i with vhs post processing to make it look like it was from the 80's, plus then able to have better graphics. Framerate should have been 30fps with extreme motion blur, switching to 60 when over the shoulder.
He had a great team who pulled off great engines. They just retooled from the previews, they already had things right and should have left them as they were, and released within several months of the previews while the graphics were still unbelievable.
considering the idea for metal gear survive actually came from, him, yes.
ITT: brainlets.
Firing people is ilegal in Japan.
Yes. He was sabotaging Kojipro at every turn with his retarded ideas.
He wasn't, his contract with Konami ended.
Konami wanted to make cashcows fast, and Kojima doesn't, so he bailed out.
I'd hope to god that one day you'd hire a guy for a job and find out that he's spent millions of your money on stuff unrelated to the job.
I'd hope that, but luckily, your stupid ass will never manage a burger king, much less a huge multi-billion dollar company.
No, he's SWERY's alter-ego though.
>sabotaging Kojipro
You do know that studio is full of brain damaged retards, right?
>Kojima tells them to make the cyborg ninja game on their own, Metal Gear Solid Rising
>spend years doing absolutely nothing
>development is a clusterfuck
>game gets cancelled because they have no fucking idea what to do
>idea gets handed over to Platinum
>in one year they make a pretty decent hack and slash from the ground up
And now, Kojima is gone for good, and despite the fact that everyone wanted more stuff for MGSV, what they do is make a zombie mod for MGSV focused completely on grinding, the worst part of MGSV.
It's like a goddamn headless chicken.
After Castlevania Lords of Shadow, yes.
Yeah, Kojima would rather waste all of his budget for hollywood actors and buying licenses of dadrock music lmao
Yeah, and ironically, spending money on Hollywood actors and dadrock license brings in more money than the cashgrabs.
>more money
Good joke, Kojidrone lmao
>make almost 10 games in his time with Konami
>all of them pretty good, sold fuckloads
>one game ends up unfinished due to troubled development
>Sup Forumseddit starts acting as if he has always done that
>Kojima
>make
Yes, no one is flawless, he certainly wasn't.
I mean why are people even mad? MG was supposed to end after Metal Gear Solid 4, V was a travesty that didn't deserve the name it had attached to it.
>4
2
I haven't played MGS past MGS2 and even that plot was already starting to go the retarded route near the end. I've heard snippets of the plot of the next metal gears and everything seems way too convoluted to be considered a good story. Then I heard "vocal parasites" in MGS5 and I literally facepalmed.
I don't know why anyone would think this guy is so great. MGS story hasn't been truly good since the original MGS.
>MG Survive
>2 weeks old
>MGSV
>almost 3 years old
>same amount of players on either of them
>in a few weeks, it will officially be a better idea to keep releasing DLC for MGSV rather than Survive
And then, you have this.
eurogamer.net
>Survive sold 5% of the copies MGSV did
>"Survive obviously shifted a fraction of the boxed copies that Metal Gear Solid 5 did - although as very different animals, the comparison is somewhat unfair. However, compare Survive's launch with Rising - another Metal Gear spin-off - and it's notable Survive sold 85 per cent fewer copies."
Meanwhile, MGSV made more than twice it's budget on launch day.
vg247.com
>"According to a new Adobe Digital Index report, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain made $179 million worldwide on its first day on sale. That’s over twice as much as Avengers: Age of Ultron’s opening day box office earnings."
I'm pretty sure Metal Gear Survive will be more profitable than V.
>don't let Kojima and his team go full autist and finish the game
>supposedly went over budget
>budget was 80m
>made that back plus more on the first day alone
>that's not even counting microtransaction revenue
Konami should just stick with Pachinko machines. If Survive is any indication, I'm a bit worried what stale genre they'll be stuffing Metal Gear's corpse into next.
Not really.
Although it is going to be a profit considering 99% of the assets were already made.
>MGS4 had about 1-2 hours of gameplay.
mgs4 had more gameplay than 1 and 2
This really proves nothing, V had Kojima attached to it, hundreds of e-celebs hyping it up and telling their sheep to buy it day one and what does survive has exactly? What has been a year long, coordinated hate/willing ignorance campaign brought on by a frankly childish obsession with drama. Metal Gear Survive isn't as good as V but it's replayability is certainly superior, V's multiplayer was absolute trash.
>same fucking shit as MGS5 with the same shit gameplay
>doesn't bring any money, because no kojima name attached to it
???
We are talking about profit, not about quality.
Both games are trash m8
but getting famous actors and dadrock songs, does, in fact, makes things sell better. See capeshit movies for an example
No it's not
Or maybe people are simply fucking tired of zombie survival games with crafting after the entire genre was run into the ground 3 years ago by hundreds and hundreds of early access zombie trash.
It's not ilegal, but it's certainly one of the hardest countries to fire people from.
You need to go to court in order to fire someone in Japan.
The only way to do it fast is if the person you want to fire is doing ilegal stuff, where the police intervenes.
What happened is simply that Konami wanted to do different stuff, and Kojima bailed out.
Doubt it.
It will be profitable even at low sales because it's basically an asset flip with some minimal cutscenes and voicework thrown in, but MGS5 made like twice its budget.
for real though, was kojima fired just out of the blue? iirc he started associating with non-kojima staff a lot and openly talked about the end of MGS and how he wanted to work somewhere else. then after some time had passed he went silent about it up until he was let go. i always assumed it was that perceived disloyalty that got him fired more than overspending or anything else.
>Kojima really does seem like a nice guy
>he isn't the kind of guy you can give a blank check to.
>nice guy
A nice guy would have the decency to scale back on spending, considering it's not only HIS job on the line, but many others' as well. Fuck Kojima.
I love how Survive marketeers, despite the fact that they are constantly calling everyone Kojimadrones, every now and then they try to tell people that the game was Kojima's idea.
It's like Konami gave you 3 basic ideas to force:
>everyone who hates Survive is a Kojimadrone
>every now and then, tell people that Survive was Kojima's idea
>randomly praise the "great Fox Engine gameplay" despite the fact that only an illiterate retard could think that gameplay is tied to an engine
Possibly, but none of us can really say because we don’t know the true story behind it.
My theory is that he had a huge fight with one or more of his higher ups. Potential reasons could be:
a) Kojima was mad that Konami intended to continue metal gear without his involvement.
b) Konami was mad at kojima for brushing off deadlines and ignoring budgets allotted to him.
Either way it was a supremely bad business decision for Konami since kojima has been in charge of a large number of their best selling and best received games. Silent Hills was obviously going to be a huge hit too. It seems a lot like his firing was part of some kind of personal grudge, especially since they wouldn’t let him accept that award.
He was absolutely destroyed by Konami.
Judging by how poor Konami's working conditions are it's no wonder he wanted to work somewhere else.
In turn, it's no wonder Konami would fire his ass after going over budget like he did and then wanting to jump ship.
>Kojima was mad that Konami intended to continue metal gear without his involvement.
He wanted people to continue the franchise in different ways without him.
MGR was the result of that.
He left it to the team without his involvement, they fucked it up, and came back for MGSV.
A lot of the details are simply not known. Obviously the fans want to hatesink Konami and Konami wants to blame Kojima for budget and eccentricity problems. The truth will probably go down as a mystery of corporate backstabbing and NDAs.
>poking zombies through a fence with next to no stealth
>same as MGS5
>implying that lots of people don’t just buy those games for the story anyway
>poking zombies through a fence with next to no stealth
just like mgs5 then
Kojima is a piece of shit for publicly badmouthing his team to serve his own ego.
If it was my decision I'd have fired him during the production of 3 if I hadn't already during the production of 2.
He gave up and/or lost control. Initial shots of 3 looked like the real deal.
For 2 I'd have pointed out the game needs to tell the story. Give him some money to be a Samaritan. Nobody cares about politicians, don't create scenarios. Tell it how it is. Child Soldier Jack having no grip on what is real needs the clear message that it doesn't matter. Doing what's right, and continuing yourself as someone who does, matters. Also to have faith, hold onto whatever good you know to be true, all evidence pointing otherwise shouldn't matter at all. Be loyal to what you care about.
For 3 I'd have complified splinter cell's camera system. In that hugging objects moved the camera away. Overall moved the camera lower so it was usually looking up, even as Big Boss aimed on a flat plane. No double insertion. Continues mission injured. More gritty. Change area to Vietnam. Big Boss just SF going alone, living off the land, honing his own skills, in peace at war, prefering it there. Gaining an understanding how the enemy works then applying that reasoning to aid the direction of troops, away from danger, saving that for himself. Meeting other peaceful people living some kind of life in the middle of nowhere, various motivations and causes to fight. Player playing mostly to avoid killing. Locals wowed by his strange presence. Boss fights where skill is matched against skill, mostly stealth and timing actions, knowing when to run. Show the evil of submission, where people only do what they're allowed to. And how then they worship power that dominates as if by that power greater their submission is more wise. Big Boss remains focused and unphased. Similar ending where he is thanked by those who betrayed the country, him and life itself. Them cutting men from their minds, too convinced men are directed from fear.
The way you write is near incomprehensible. Unsure if this is some kind of parody pasta.
My god Joosten is ugly.
Hideo, u have no teisto
It's still good considering they are indeed absolutely useless.
But user.
He was badmouthing his old MGS1-3 team. Not his loyal cocksuckers who made MGS4 and 5.
The team has barely changed aside from 2 or 3 writers.
And yeah, they did a pretty awful job considering MGS has always had absolute trash gameplay, and the moment they decide to focus on it with V and Survive, they make some generic grindfest worthy of Ubisoft.
Kojipro deserves nothing but to be disbanded.
Everyone hates Konami and they can't have Kojima's wonderful autism anymore. So yeah, they fucked up
Source?
Then again I keep hearing part of the reason he comes back is because his team were helpless without him, even back then in MGS3, but I can't confirm.
>wonderful autism
>*wastes your money on expensive hipster food and a-list hollywood actors*
yes, post gameplay footage of death stranding to prove me wrong
>you now realize that Kojima is the cancer that introduced cinematic cutscene simulators to western devs
>kiefer sutherland
>a-list hollywood actor
Donald Sutherland is an A-list hollywood actor, kiefer is a tv actor
Do you even have a source for this badmouthing? And a lot of the MGS4/V team were on the fucking MGS1-3 team so who exactly do you even mean?
>MGS2
>MGS3
>MGSV
>Not wonderful autism
Fuck, with MGS3, plenty of people found new things about it despite being a decade old game. Story is a mess though
OOOOUUUUU YEEAAAAAHHHH!!
Don't worry, user; he'll never have a job at all.
Google it, virtually everything that is known about MGSR's development came straight from Kojima's mouth.
Well I knew about that.
How is he wrong?
>MGS 3 was shit
here have a (you) since you're autistic about them
Not really. They did a video with a load of the team members discussing why it failed. Stating facts about the game's development isn't badmouthing.
desu Konami and everyone else really
already know that even if they actually spend a year or two more to finish Phantom pain will not increased the sales figure much if not at all
everyone'd already buy the game whatever it is finished or not
why was she in so many pictures with the team? Did she have any important role in the project apart of being the model of a character?
Yes and now. MGSV is a great game with a lot of potential. It shows Kojima and his team knew what they were doing and if given more time, MGSV could have easily reach the wildest of expectations.
But at the same time, the time and money it took just to developed what we got (half finished game) shows that Kojima was being a bit irresponsible with the power gaven to him.
80 millions and 5 years for half of what it was planned. What would take to make the complete game? Double that? Meanwhile we see games like The Witcher 3, with half the budget and half the development with half the team MGSV got, reaching everything they aimed to reach, and they reached high places.
It is only natural for Konami to be pissed at Kojima. Risking so much investment on a unstable project that is taking longer to be complete that it should.
cum bucket
You'd be surprised how far you can get by sucking off elderly Japanese men.
Connect the dots user. She had a very important role, just not for the game.
Wait, what have I missed?
It's HIS company, isn't it, Kojima Productions?
How can you get fired from your own fucking company?
Sounds like a canard, if you ask me.
This is a meme right?
It's not
If it helps you sleep better
Kojima is a westaboo, horse face is a white westerner living in japan and working as a model.
It's like a weaboo meeting a japanese girl model in the west. Of course you want to hae her near you all the time, having her in your project even tho she isn't that popular or knows anything about acting.
And if you are a man in a position of power, chances are you are going to tap that ass.
It still confuses me why horse face, why her. I don't think she is huge in japan, I don't think she did any acting besides MGSV.
Why her and not someone more competent and talented? An actual semi popular actress from a tv series? Why her?
Yes, but not for the reason all the edgy kids on Sup Forumseddit say. Kojima needed to move on from MGS and especially Konami, they are just doing. all the wrong things now. Complete waste of such a good engine like the FOX engine.
user, this is how things happen in the real world.
kojima knows how to market his games
That image needs a Brazzers logo
>Why her and not someone more competent and talented?
it is cheaper and also doesn't take the protagonims of the game, like with the last of us or Beyond two souls.
>attractive female (she isn't gorgeous, but she is still pretty with a nice body) working in a project that can advance her career even further and for a man in power that clearly finds her attractive in a country where subjugating women is common and expected and no one cares to talk about it.
If even in the US, land of the feminist whales, man in power abusing women was till recently an unspoken reality, what makes you think that in japan, a place famous for subjugating and treating women as lower class citizens, trading sex for favors isn't a common reality?
You can if you waste company' money
>What happened is simply that Konami wanted to do different stuff, and Kojima bailed out.
No they just do the normal jap thing to do when you want to fire someone. You make their life a living hell forcing them to quit.
Joke's on them my life is already a living hell
