>System Shock 1 remake couldn't find a publisher and was canceled
Shouldn't a genre have some successful games before calling itself a genre? Like RTSes had Starcraft and MOBAs had DOTA
There's a reason why they stopped calling FPSes "DOOM clones", because they actually made some good and successful ones that weren't Doom.
The "immersive sim" genre isn't FUCKING REAL
Wyatt Baker
>Shouldn't a genre have some successful games before calling itself a genre? It did. See: Deus Ex, Deus Ex HR, System Shock 1 and 2.
Angel Hall
It's easier to say 'immersive sim' than 'atmospheric fps-rpg-hybrids with a focus on world-building", so I guess 'immersive sim' is here to stay. I prefer fps/rpg-hybrid though.
However, see prior posts: System shock 1 and 2 and Deus Ex, plus Human revolution were successful.
The two games in OP failed because one looks like the blandest bland that ever blanded (even though some say it isn't) and the other was a rush-job.
Jonathan Smith
When did they say it was cancelled? I heard they went on hiatus.
Jose Perez
why do you keep making this thread I don't even understand who are you shilling for
Cameron Lee
what is the "immversive" genre
Grayson Sanchez
Prey was gr8. Best game I've played in a while.
Jacob Cox
Prey was GOTY 2017. Sleeper hit that doesn't get the attention or praise it deserves.
James Rogers
>on hiatus That's PR talk for canceled, like how saying someone left a company is another way of saying they got fired.
Daniel Jones
Not him, but it was bland, even though it had great gameplay. It's missing the hook that gets you immersed that Deus Ex HR and even MD has. In those games you get that interesting cyberpunk world with great worldbuilding and interesting characters. Meanwhile in Prey, you get a generic future space station where predictably something went wrong, some by the books npc logs, bland characters and uninspired aliens that caused all that. And it all meant nothing because of the ending reveal. You could argue that's the reason why the world feels so artificial, but it's really apologetic to make someone play through such a game and give them such a bad excuse for the shortcomings of it.

Jeremiah Wright
Yes, I haven't played it. People say that it is good, but every time I think about trying it, I look at some screenshots and my sould just get's drenched in a sea of vanilla milk bread water blandness and I don't.

I respectfully disagree with the first half of your post. However, the ending of Prey was so fucking bad that i can't even bring myself to play the game again with powers this time. Everytime i think "maybe ill pick up Prey again that game was fucking awesome." my next immediate thought is. "why bother? the ending is dogshit". I fucking guess the ending 10 minutes into the game. I was so fucking mad when the screen cut to black and i was saying out loud to myself. please dont let it be this please please please. And then it was. The most lazy piece of writing ever produced in CURRENT YEAR.
Carson Morales
If you like the aspect of creeping through dark rooms and becoming so immersed your heart rate goes up just before entering a new room, then pick it up. It's a fun game and because the first enemy you encounter is a mimic, you aren't able to "relax" at almost any point in the game. Sure there are some safe zones, but in new territory? better watch out for those coffee cups.
Connor Bailey
What the fuck is the "immersive sim" genre?
Lucas Sanchez
Who the fuck calls these games immersive sims anyway? This thread is literally the first time ive seen this.
James Rodriguez
>makes an image >doesn't center text >can't even spell shit right Oy goy.
Landon Peterson
I agree with a lot of you said, but one thing I want to point out is the text and audio logs in Prey were top notch. Probably the best in any game I've played. The world felt decently "alive" even though everyone was dead.
Ayden Barnes
name one game or relationship that ever came back from a "hiatus."
Michael Myers
lurk more
Lucas Ortiz
Couldn't disagree more, although alot of the world in Prey is based on the crew memebers and what happened to them the actual lore behind the world is pretty interesting too. I'll give it to you the art direction isn't the best and aliens are a tad uninspired but it does alot of things right in my book.
Joseph Clark
Deus Ex creator coined it on his post-mortem, so I guess it's alright then.
Kevin Bell
Duke Nukem Forever.

how autistic do you have to be to repost these kinds of threads there's so fucking many of these it's honestly baffling how infested Sup Forums is with reposts, I'd like to believe it's a small handful of people doing it but you never know I'm not putting any effort into formatting because OP never puts any effort into his threads
Ryan Gomez
You mean RTSes had C&C
Andrew Ramirez
But the enemies look so fucking booooooooooooooring. The game looks so fucking boring as well. I might try it someday, but... why the fuck did they make it look so soul-less?
Henry Carter
Why is this thread spammed 3 times a day?
Ian Robinson
>Games flopped = Genre does not exist Nice logic faggot btw i agree than immersive sim genre word shouldn't be used that much, because you can literally separate games to two groups, ones that focus on immersion and ones that don't

OP, you need to give it a rest.

I know, I just quickly searched the md5 and that looked like enough. Here's a beefier list.

Reminds me of the "paragon has actual graphics" and "why does samus have a fat ass" guys. Absolutely no idea on how memes work, while futilely trying to force their own absurd ideas in a way, hoping they'll catch on.
