So is he a legit asshole and bullshit artist or does he mean well but just has a mouth that is too big for his brain?
Will he ever make another good game or is it over for him?

Black & White was okay and Its take on AI pets was pretty good too, but I’m pretty sure that’s not just molyneux. fable was a mess
he's the guy that will think about breathing air while at the same time glad he's contributing to depletion because there must be a positive impact somewhere far along in the future
guy would fuck your ass and expect a thank you
hes a rat
he's a talentless hack and the way he "advertises" a game borders on the behaviour of a pathological liar.
but he seems passionate. Maybe he should become a reviewer instead of creator
Whatever happened to that last simulation game he was working?
I bet it turned out complete shit and/or abandoned the project.
...
>Godus
That's the one
Looked like complete shit last I saw anything of it.
He's from a world where ideas men got their wishes carried out to the letter, and you didn't need 300 people and 5 years to make a videogame.
It all got too big for him. Also, he's a huge fucking cock in person. His ego's got its own gravity well.
Can't say I'm sorry for what happened to him.
>Also, he's a huge fucking cock in person. His ego's got its own gravity well.
Source?
>Inb4 Larrys video
>It all got too big for him.
I belive this too. Although he did make some enjoyable games on a big scale like B&W, The Movies and Fable1.
He never once seemed malicious or sneaky with his words. I think he was just overambitious to an unachievable degree. There have been others who knew full well they were spouting bullshit. The fact that this guy gets the crown for that is a tad unfair.
Black and White is an extremely underrated classic btw. It should be talked about a lot more
But he literally made up features in interviews he never talked about with his team. That is seriously odd behaviour for a CEO.
Todd is what simply being hyped for what you want to do with your games is, Molyneux is a sneaky rat and always has been.
I worked with him on Syndicate, Theme park, Dungeon keeper, and the majority of other Bullfrog titles between 1992 and 1996 before he sold out to EA. You can see where most of the care went, and also how the games got bigger, with bigger teams, and longer developments.
Theme park took almost two years to make, which was a stupid amount of manhours at that point in time, especially for videogames.
Then somewhere in the middle of Theme park, we were told he'd sold out to EA. This meant we got very little, but he'd used his Steve Jobs charisma to become vice president of EA in the process. Then he started churning out shit games, burying people who didn't drink his kool aid, decided he wanted to be vice president but also in charge of games (they let him), gave himself huge benefits, partied like John Romero, and later resigned from EA while drunk after a week of intense game design with his chosen ones. I don't think he ever came clean with why he resigned, but yes, he was drunk, and probably high, and resigned because his second in command thought it sounded good, since it was Peter's idea.
Well Lionhead filed for bankruptcy last year, so no.
Shut up Todd. You're too small to be a rat.
lel
he left years ago because he had no say anymore
Todd - Genuinely enthusiastic, can't keep his own tongue in check
Molyneux - Liar
Sean Murray - Lord of Lies
>I worked with him (...)
yeah, no. I’m not reading that shit until we get actual proof
how do you feel about the absolutely butchered version of Theme Park that EA ported to DS? Are you even aware of it's existence? How badly does one need to fuck up to make the mechanic have a grayscale sprite during certain animations? How incompetent do you have to be to accidentally switch out the vomit and food garbage sprites? Especially when guests actively say "ew" when they walk past vomit?
I'm genuinely curious how it feels to have something that you watched be born get ripped apart and re-assembled incorrectly by people without the first fucking clue of what they're doing?
He's a snake oil salesman like any other, but the basic ideas of his games were always sound. He wanted to make a game where you 'play god.' Okay, so how do we do that, Peter? He would storyboard his ideas, and use legos to illustrate the shit he wanted, and it gradually took the shape of a worldscape, with little stick men going about their lives. Some of them would build huts, some just wandered off and died. The idea was that you weren't simply an all-powerful god, and couldn't smite anyone at your leisure, or make the earth shake to piss off some random tribals. You had to earn faith from followers, amass more people to do bigger miracles, use your powers to not terrorize your own people, and eventually give some of your faith to warriors, who'd earn lots of faith if they won battles, but lose even more if they died.
That was kind of a big game for the late 80s. I primarily stuck around with them for so long because the games were fun to make. Later, I stuck around for the spectacle that it had all become.
Conmen always weep their innocence when caught.
didn't he do some interview where he bashed himself, like "I'm a disgrace" ?
Switch Todd and Molyneux and you're right.
I'm pretty sure it's the journalist that called him a disgrace and was generally being a complete dick to Peter.
do you have a link to the interview?
It's too detached from what we made for me to feel much of anything. Very similar feeling to when they announced a new Syndicate, and then I watched the trailer. Also, they based it on the MS DOS version, so most of the simulation elements that made the game into a smash hit weren't actually in it. No one's ever provided a sufficient answer for why this decision was made.
A straight port of the megadrive version with 640x480 resolution would have been more than good enough to have the japanese eat it up.
>He never once seemed malicious or sneaky with his words
He literally admit that he lied during the GODUS kickstarter just to reach the money he needed. In the last days of the campain he start to tell all the bullshit he can think of just to make as much money as possibile.
>He literally admit that he lied
Gonna need a direct quote on that. He doesn't seem the type to admit that. He probably claims it was a mistake or a misunderstanding.
rockpapershotgun.com
He got the roasting he rightly deserved, but absolutely nothing of what he said he'd do to make amends ever happened.
So even when caught, he gets away without any financial harm.
I feel bad about that interview, felt like the journalist was just making an example of him to gain some credibility
Came across as picking an easy target when people like Tim Schafer and Keiji Inafune were the bigger problems with kickstarter
Black and White 3 when
>We’re talking 50,000 hours of interview and there’s going to be mistakes.
>Most of these things you’ve said are mistakes
>I’ve admitted my mistake
I knew it. He never admits to actually lying or deceiving.
Slippery snake.
...
here you go:
pcgamesn.com
>"we've only got 10 days to go and we’ve got to make £100,000, for fuck’s sake, let’s just say anything"
...
The last stuff, especially if you consider that he said, for example, he COULD let trees and grass grow in real time, while all gaming journalists wrote down "Fable will have grass and tree growing in real time".
Molyneux has just zero talent being an presenter.
It was an execution. Peter has survived many such attempts in the past. The interviewer probably thought it was a special occasion, but it really isn't.
He tends to believe people who manipulate him, that's all.
It's kinda annoying but when you're not a programmer and programmers lie out their ass to you to get a job and keep it, you tend to believe them as you're a humble person and not a dickhead
He will never make a good game again.
>Somebody will buy the Fable IP
>They will make a great game out of it
How would Peter react?
He would sit on his pile of money bags and earn sympathy for doing nothing, or make a better Fable than the new Fable.
Remember when he accidentaly posted his phone on twitter?
He's cute and passionate for a liar
>He's cute and passionate for a liar
Yep, pretty much the only reason why I prefer him to other liars like Todd, at least Molyneux has ambitions and he's somewhat passionate about what he does outside of trying to rip people off, he just has the bad habit of being a pathological liar, but unlike others he does somewhat try at making a good game, can't say the same about Todd.
you sound like a cuck to me. they're both faggots
Curiosity Cube sequel when?? Imagine chiseling away on a hypercube, how cool wouldn't that be!!???
Does Peter have children?
Randy - BAD ASS
>That was kind of a big game for the late 80s.
That's exactly the vibe I get from him, and a lot of industry veterans of the same era. Like, take Miyamoto for instance. He's king shit because he thought of Donkey Kong and Mario early on and used those to push into the only region where the market was dead, but those aren't ideas that would take a complete visionary. And you hear about the specific design ideas he has now, or how he reacts to new products from his company and you realize he's an absolute fucking simpleton who'll spend hours climbing virtual trees. He wasn't the kind of guy working singlehandedly to fit the entirety of a previous game inside a new game, to put it emblematically.
>I worked with him
He did great in the GC era.
But yes there must be some true visionairs working at nintendo for his newer games turning out as well as they did with the retarded ideas he has
B&W was the ONE good game he ever made and that seemed like fluke to be honest
yes
i remember seeing his son's youtube channel
i also remember peter calling every commenter there a queer
I think he used to walk a fine line between the two.
The problem is that, as time went by, there was less and less excuse to the more and more the outright lying.
Getting away with it too often for too long basically made him forego any and all restraint.
In a way the yes-men video game media people were his enabler.
More importantly, I think he managed to stay that long because he's fairly representative of the video game industry, where everyone lies to everyone else, to the point the whole process has been normalized.
Nah he did many more but you are too little to remember
The idea of the auteur visionary is dead in most videogames. sost are developed on teams of 100 or more people, some with different perspectives. Indie games made by one person are an obvious exception but you know the scope has to be a lot smaller.
He has autistic crying freak outs and has to be calmed down with legos.
But while he'll project a sensitive dreamer persona, the second shit is about money he will fuck you harder than a horse.
>but you know the scope has to be a lot smaller.
Well, it depends really.
I wouldn't say stuff like Dorf Fortress, Elona or Terraria have a smaller scope than the average big game, the only real difference is in graphics at the end of the day, gameplay wise all of those blow the majority of the AAA and AA output out of the water.
Having seen Kun Fu Elliot, I can't but look at the "nice" persona he displays as a way for Molineux to just get what he wants without a fight, however uncharitable that may be of me.
Tell Me Lies is Todds song.
What is Peters?
thank
look at fable two and three
nigga's all hat no cattle
