LiS is on that spectrum, they just voiced a lot of the text instead of writing it. Its certainly not a game, there is no competition, you can't lose, there's no score, winning is just getting to the end, etc. Its a story (novel) told via visual queues with a bit of interaction. It plays like a VN, not like a game.

You are onto something here. Walking simulators are just VNs with a 3D engine. Although, you can lose in VNs, but often it's actually something you want to do, because bad ends are great. Bad ends in western 3D "adventure games" are usually just U DIED.

I had no issue playing through the hardest difficulty mode in The Witcher 1, 2 and 3, which at some point was considered the peak of difficulty, but DS just feels like complete BS to me.

To play DS you have to stop having fun, and just mechanically respond to visual queues. Its discipline and concentration, not self expression and fun.
