Darkwood

I like the art style from what I've seen.

Is it any good?

Yeah i got some dark wood for you white boi

it's good.
It's scary. Not so many jumpscares, it scares by atmosphere.
The devs are based, too.
You are weak, resources are scarce, and it's never hard to die.
But, a skilled player could walk through entire game with but a stick and nails in it.
You'll never forget your first night, huddling close to a light, barricaded in a room.
And that feeling when you're away from home and sun is going down.
It's good, I say. Give it a try.

Great game. One of the best horror games I've played.
Only downsides are the weapon degradation and the combat, aside from that it's a solid experience.
The devs uploaded the game for free on Piratebay

It is pretty fantastic as a horror game. Though it does suffer from becoming too routine in the gameplay department after a while. I feel the game is slightly too long because of this, even though the game isn't that long in general.

I'd recommend going into it without many spoilers because there is some unnerving shit in this game, I'd also recommend hard mode/a mode with a set number of lives. At least for the first playthrough. It adds to the experience much more than infinite lives.

based slav devs, how do they do this?

Do you lose anything upon death besides the backpack? Why should i just kill myself in my house during the night to skip it?

not scary and got bored in 2 days

I think they're passionate and they want people to be able to play their art. People that will like it and have the dosh may pay for it as a mean to say thanks. Never heard of this game before but I like what I see.

Damn good game and a genuine scary game

no rep and since resources are limited you have to buy some stuff

You mainly don't get the rep (money), other than that there's no real downside to death on normal. If I would change anything about the game, it would be the saving system/infinite lives.

One of the very few games I ever pirated and then paid for afterwards.

>second night
>can hear something walking around outside house
>starts tapping on window
>boy am I glad it's out there and I'm in he-
>door suddenly bashed open

I'll admit it, I'm a complete pussy when it comes to horror games. Are there any decent longplays of Darkwood?

>You can't dodge to the sides
>You need to look into opposite direction of where you plan to dodge and turn yourself before doge
I hate this. Just let me dodge and jump towards enemies.

>First time against a banshee
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAA

>knock at the door
>fuck off i'm not falling for that shit
>more knocks
>fuck off m8
>next night
>knocking at door
>that's it, i've had enough, you're going to eat shovel
>open door
>nobody there
>molotov is laying there

thank you fren, I'm still never going to open the door again.

Lot of slav countries (like Russia) had their gaming communities form around piracy and bootlegs so they have coexisted with it much longer. Russia even had a renowned pirate group start selling their pirate copies for money and have their logo as the seal of approval. Ironically they started suing other pirates when they faked their seal of approval on their own pirate copies.

>Dude out side the window telling me to follow him.
>Yeah fuck that.
>Does it again another night.
>Y'know what sure, fuck it
>Keeps getting further away, leaving shiny rocks
>Cool, more money at least
>Keep following
>Get attacked by the unholy fog thing, and everything fucking else.

I don't really remember much after that.

Fuck banshees so hard

is the source of that giid or do I not want to see it

Piracy hurts devs less than keysellers, they uploaded and said pirate if you can't afford it buy it legit when you can

Yes. NIghts are fun and spooky. Artstyle is fresh and imaginative. Atmosphere is great, sound si good story is meh but not horrible devs are absolute bros. Would love to se a 3d translation but would probably lose its charm. Still, the unique night mechanic could work no problem as most of the other parts of the game. Overworld needs to be foggy tho

>first time in Hideout 3
>oh man where is the other lam-
>the whole hideout is the lamp
>chomper gangbang three minutes later

you talking about Fargus?

>pirates pirating pirates
What the fuck

>get invited to a wedding
>go to the wedding
>think its one of those things where everything looks scary but they will just give me some good shit
>WEVE
>BEEN
>WAITING
>FOR
>YOU

>Get invited to the wedding
>go there
>nothing happens
>she just autistically dances
>hit her with my stick a couple of times
>loot her shit
>go home
>never get invited to any events ever again
At least i have my bro's who visit me at night, r-right?

r9k plays video games
top kek

Very good. I highly suggest you play it quickly, because a) resources are limited and b) taking things slowly means it becomes very routine and loses the edge. Great game though, don't spoil yourself.

>resources are scarce
>you can stay in the first hideout to farm rep
>merchant has the essentials

yeah but you can't farm in chapter 2 and that place while generally much easier to defend than hideout 3 is a fucking roulette of events, you either get like shitty savages or ten human spiders who have already multiplied and their shitty multiplications don't disappear at sunrise

I never bothered in the radio tower but banshees are easy. You can usually just hide and stare at a corner. Or throw gas bottles at the doorway the babies will come from.

radio tower is a breeze because by that point you either have the pump action shotgun or the assault rifle which fucking cleans up the banshees

On my second run I stayed in hideout 1 for about 60 days and got to chapter 2 with 4 shotguns. And multiple stacks of shells

you could have just played the game, gotten to chapter 2 in 2 weeks and had the same amount, exploration for chapter 2 rewards you with a ton of shit, don't even need to bother.

>60 days
did you even have fun or what

>tfw will never play darkwood for the fist time ever again.

I remember the first night I didnt have enough fuel for the generator and the noises at night without the lamp are especially creepy.

something keeps calling me at night

something keeps opening the doors

someone keeps talking from the other rooms and moving furniture around

fuck this game

>they turn the lights on at night

it only makes the monsters find you more easily, dumbass.

running the generator and only turning the nearby lamp on when you hear a chomper breaking down your window is the way

push the lamps away from windows.

Die you degenerate Barneyfag

fake... right?

At night enemies run around your house. If they notice light they investigate. So if you have lamps in front of windows (even barricaded windows) and they pass they will notice the light. Move your lights so they only light the inside and dont light the windows gives you the best of both

Looks like LiveSmutAnon

I feel like I've been told Santa isn't real

It is possible to fix this by positioning tall wardrobes (the ones that you can't see over) in front of windows, but you usually have only one of those per hideout. But yes, generally light in the same windowed room, even if it's in the corner will slightly seep out of it and monsters will come in to investigate.

You can also just push the light source against the wall far from the window so the light will graze the window.

That's the problem with the game, once you learn the best way to play is to fight in the dark with no barricades the tension goes

>Not moving around the house to increase the chances of creatures getting inside
cowards

it'll still come out if there are any windows around, it's impossible at any chance

this guy might be slightly b8ing but he's actually right. Starting from hideout 2 the monsters will get super aggressive and look for you until they find you. Your best chance is to just run around and kill them before they kill you. Hell, you can do it in Hideout 1, it's just shitty savages and dogs and the rare banshee. Introduce them to your nailboard.

>he doesnt man up and fight outside the Hideout

The funny part is for Hideout 1-2 and 4 this works super well and doing this you have alot of chances to pick odd shrooms to level up

I forgot the names but there are some games in GoG where they use the pirate versions for Russian localization.

fuck i cant play this game on my shit toaster and it looks so good

>moved to old woods
>place full of huge dogs and red chompers, traps are near fucking impossible to spot
>looking for the second lamp in hideout 3
>think the game glitched out since there's none and it'd be impossible to survive shadows
>waste good half of the day
>start barricading before night falls, realize i'm lacking nails, house is basically exposed
>night falls
>THE WHOLE HOUSE IS A LIGHT SOURCE
>shadows come and the whole fucking place turns off except a tiny light on the other side of the house
>run into dark and run face first into my first banshee, crap my pants and die on the spot to mr whooshy shadow

spent the next few days hiding in hideout 2 until i got the shotgun, FUCK hideout 3 and fuck red chompers in particular

running arround Hideout 3 is the best way to survive

not until you have a decent supply of ammo it's not, fighting chompers in tiny corridors with melee is not a good idea

>You'll never forget your first night, huddling close to a light, barricaded in a room.
man, and that feeling after reaching morning while the music changes.

Pretty good.
Exploring at day and surviving at night is definitely the best part of it.
Great atmosphere and bestiary, some locations are legit unnerving.
Original npc's and storylines too.

It has two weaknesses though: one the art tends to be confusing and you have no idea what you're looking at, second the last act is kind of a drag midway.

>first night
>bunker up
>doors opens by itself and you have to venture into the darkness to close it

Fuck

>yeah dude if you grind for hours you can get lots of resources lmfao they're not scarce

the only proper way to play act 2 is

>explore village
>rush elephants
>grab assault rifle
>go into great lake with a lantern on
>clear out great lake, pack up what you need
>either burn tree or go do radio tower now that you've geared the fuck up

if you want to have fun, side with musician and don't cheese the Wolfman fight

youtube.com/watch?v=UhhK00bz-uo

Watch this guy and it'll be like playing it.

do i kill the pig

No :)

i'm serious, do I kill it or not, I hate the villagers and they've been nothing but dickheads to me and each other, I'm just worried the game is gonna give me some moral posturing grandstand about how i cut off their only food source

Kill it, it unlocks some stuff later on.
If you let the pig leave you preserve the status quo, which might be nice roleplaying wise but you'll miss on things to do.

i literally finished this game an hour ago. Going to sleep never felt so satisfying.

>HE WENT TO SLEEP

YOU DONE FUCKED UP NOW

only game I've played in a while where you can kill everyone you meet and it's not actually a retarded choice

Don't kill the pig, the pig is good. :)

I'm pulling the plug on oinkers then, fuck the villagers.

I hope you didn't actually go to sleep.

aw shiet, is it one of those games? fuck.
what did i miss?

If you load your save I think it puts you back at the start of the epilogue.
I ain't spoiling shit but explore the city and your building. Just look around for anything odd and you should be fine

To any cunts thinking of getting it, this review pretty much nails it youtube.com/watch?v=5mQEhl6GXvM
Skip the fucking spoilers for christ sake

From the beginning of the game you are being fed little hints that shit is not right. You keep having dreams about stuff calling you to come to it, various beds and going to sleep, giant piles of sleeping bodies. Something keeps pushing shiny stones at you during the night, but they also appear in dream sequences. Something is calling you. If you spared the doctor he starts shoving a stone into his head and going full savage until he breaks down. Madmen keep hinting that the situation is fucked up too - if you remember crossing between Dry Meadow and Silent Forest, there was a single madman who tells you to look under the floorboards of your last hideout. There are also journals and hints provided if you follow the events of sparing the Talking Tree + Radio Tower sequence that there is something manipulating the forest, because of how it's shaped. The strongest by far clues come from the actual ending sequence - how the fuck does your neighbor not bat an eye at your mutated self when you've been missing for months? Why does nobody care that you're there? Anyway explore your building, explore the basement, check the radio, check the MUSHROOM JAM, get lost in the endless hallway which is your house and last but not least, DO NOT GO TO SLEEP but look under the floorboards instead

Just reload and inspect the apartment building properly this time.
You dumbass.

honestly one of the better indie games I have ever seen
I love the fact that they way you upgrade your character actually really massively changes your game style

Actually only the very last part of the story was a dream, everything before happened for real. You really did all those things in the woods, but somewhere during your trip on "The Road Home" you're forced to leave it and venture into the woods again... that's when you're captured and put into the matrix sleep thingie

>tfw took shaky hands instead of weak regeneration first timebecause i thought that firearms are lame and I got okay at killing chompers with the shovel and heard you can get the axe
>mfw human spiders. swampers and centipedes in chapter 2 zooming on my face

yeah, but the thing keeps trying to pull you in constantly, that's why you keep having those walking dreams, especially that one early dream where you're following lights in a swamp with the giant swirling black-red fog.

I felt so bad for the Talking Tree and The Three and I didn't give a shit about anyone in this stupid game, FUCK
