Super Mario 64 DS is better than the original
Super Mario 64 DS is better than the original
True
Yeah. It's perfect on 3DS thanks to the circle pad.
False
>they made most of the game look better
>but made BoB look worse just so they can advertise "wow you can immediately see it looks different"
sometimes I wonder about consumerism
The controls and about half the visuals are worse.
The other half of the visuals and the additional content are all great though. Sadly the downsides makes it ridiculously jarring for me to play.
...
>The game noteworthy for its perfect controls is better on d-pad
No
This
Play on 3ds's circle pad its better
The 3DS circlepad doesn't magically make the game analogue, user
This is literally the kind of shit I thought as a 7 year old when I thought the GBC would make GB games play in color.
It would be if you didn't have to keep the Y button pressed to run. All the extra content it had was awesome but mario 64 was made to be played with an analogue stick, they should have added atleast some sort of circlepad support.
Sure you did
a lot of nice additions but some of the textures are super pixilated. the game was meant for a crt TV and n64 shit filter.
>(you)
Worst fucking controls ever. It's stiff, stale and very difficult to accurately control. The game has good visuals and decent added content, but other than that, it's shit.
It's not.
It just has the 8-directions mapped onto the control stick.
So unless 'better' means pretending that the game isn't still busted, it's exactly as shitty.
This is undeniable truth.
Those bitching about muh anal log and run button need to take off their nostalgia glasses and adapt to the control schemes.
They did pretty good with what the DS offered and I like some of the extra content, but its ultimately inferior to the original mainly due to controls
t. jawlet
sm64 doesn't have luigi, wario, yoshi, or King Boo
checkmate 64fags
I like the color scheme in 64 more though
Keep posting level comparisons
Has nobody in this thread actually used their thumb on the touch screen to simulate the analogue stick?
retards
something something parallel universes
...
meh the controls were horrible on the ds one.
chad koopa vs virgin chubowser
Dpad ruins it. Sorry.
forgot to post
Holding Y isn’t a problem since you pretty much get used to doing that with 2D Mario’s and 3D Land/World
This was the only tolerable way to play it at launch.
>Never used the stylus controls
I agree. I'm not disregarding the concerns shared by people who disagree with me, but when comparing what the DS version adds versus what it takes away, it's still undeniable that the DS is the superior version.
>30 more stars
>Multiple new stages, albeit small ones
>New boss fights
>Two new power-ups
>Luigi
>Yoshi
>WARIO
>More collectibles, the rabbits
>..That unlock a shit ton of mini-games, 60% of them are fun as shit.
>Graphical presentation is superior, although the visuals are let down by DS tech (jaggies).
The game was fucking dope. It did extremely well in preserving the 64 experience while adding a shit ton to it. Considering that it was achieved on a DS of all things (at launch), is impressive. I see no reason why a few minor nitpicks can detract from any of the above.
...
>cool
>a 2D sphere with eyes
C'mon dude
It isn't analogue though
no rainbow = no buy
>that washed out brown and bloom looking shit on the right
>simple designs cant be cool
Yes, that is what the words in those posts mean, Mr. Reading Comprehension
The remake of the bridge leading to Ganon's castle is better though.
>worse controls
>wario is useless and luigi breaks the game
>splitting all the powerups between 3 different characters
>worse controls
>worse camera somehow
If they took the content of 64 DS and made a console remake it would be better than the original 64 though
Better than the oversaturated eyesore on the left.
>no analogue controls
>having multiple characters just adds backtracking to a game that doesn't need it
The DS version isn't exactly bad considering the hardware restraints they had, but the original is still the better version.
Nigga, don't kid yourself, colors collide with each other way more in the 64 version.
>sonic eyes
Kek
What's wrong with the new Wiggler? It looks exactly like his Super Mario World artwork
There was no reason to use wario outside breaking a few black cubes, Yoshi was just an inferior Mario because he couldn't use caps and the flutter jump wasn't as useful as you'd want, and Luigi completely broke the game and made using Mario pointless for most stars except the ones where you needed to use the fly cap, which are a tiny fraction of the overall levels that are left after you unlock Luigi.
>a game with shit controls and a laughable camera
The day modern gamer kids finally acknowledge that Mario 64 was a poorly done game will be the day gaming finally will begin to rise from its grave.
STOP // SEXUALIZING // DORIE //
Literally the only reason people hate DS is because you couldn't play with an analog stick. Put that shit on Switch and everyone would sing its praises
People would still find reasons to bitch about it
The character changing wasn't fun, needless back tracking, would of been fun if you could change going into the levels straight away
The controls on the original have agreed terribly. Most overrated game ever
I agree with you Op, just wish they kept the saturated colors. SM64DS came out in a weird time in Nintendo's life where they hated saturated colors.
Give up on these autists
This is bait or you're just trash at the game
Why the fuck is it that Halo, Sonic, and Metroid have gotten so many fan cool remakes of their games, but Mario has only gotten like 1 mediocre fan remakes of his most famous game?
Wow, you mean the only reason people hate the remake of Super Mario 64 is because it controls like dogshit?
What fucking fags for not thinking being able to play as Yoshi isn't more important than the game not playing like absolute garbage.
>Can't get the true analog mod to work on emulator
lol'd at the last one
also DS controls like shit even with 3DS
nothing beats analog stick of N64, one of the reasons many N64 games are unportable
Based on that image the original is better. Why does the grass look withered.
Why did Odyssey tease us with Peach's castle that's completely empty? I just wanted to play through Bob-omb Battlefield in HD.
Mario gets quality games all the time
Mario is perfect. He doesn’t need a remake.
DS kiddies are old enough to post their garbage opinions here now.
You along with gamecube babbies need to be genocided.
Hey, N64 Bowser was CUTE.
most of the things you listed make the game worse
Nintendo has improved, at most, 2 generations from this level of graphics
They were awkward too.
The virgin outdated original VS The chad superior remake
Cant play ds games on tv tho
The soyboy outdated meme VS The classic superior original 64
Zelda seems to get shafted too.
Whoops, trip stuck from /vg/
the additional content still makes the game worse
The controls keep it from being even remotely as good.
There's a romhack that dramatically improves them but it still lacks that analog precision.
I rather remake the original with just Mario.
The unoriginal reply VS The reply or ur mom dies tonite
I like both
Each one does some things better than the other
But I guess that makes 64DS a kinda shitty remake since a good remake would be better in every way
Should have Luigi as well since he was intended to intended to be in the original. Every Mario game should have Luigi as an option.
>worse controls
>easier main levels
>no, the 3DS doesn't change digital input into analog input
>minigames are mostly recycled from other DS Marios
>Mario gets gimped because he now has to share abilities
>Mario's balloon ability is pointless
>Wario fucking sucks and is the most useless thanks to his low jumps and strength that is barely utilized
>Luigi trivializes the game with his ridiculous jumps
>new levels are tiny red coin hunts or silver star hunts
>silver star hunts tell you where everything is on the map complete with arrows, ruining the entire point
Quality < quantity
...
muh color oversaturation
This. Also:
>somehow manages to look worse than the original, except for Bowser
>makes faggy elitist mad
Instant 10/10 for me.
did you mean quality > quantity?
by that logic, 64 is an 11/10 because it's older and that upsets you.
I beat 64DS so many times that I even did a touch screen only runs both with the stylus and one with the thumbstrap. Only baby casuals complain about controls.
Nah but it was good for what it was
My main gripes would be how worthless Wario is and how brokenly good Luigi is. The silver stars missions they added feel like filler too.
That and I always dislike run buttons, same reason Yoshi's Island is my favorite 2D Mario.
No because I can enjoy the original too, while your mom can only enjoy my cock.
>touch screen retards think it still isn't digital input
Touchscreen control was fully analog, but the problem is that the 3DS circle pad is just replicating the d-pad controls.
>Mario gets quality games all the time
I was specifically mentioning fan remakes of the best and iconic games. Sonic's got 'em for is classic and some modern games. Metroid's got plenty of fan remakes. Halo has a bunch fo different incarnations of fan remakes being developed on PC, but Mario's got fuck all but rom hacks.
Only problem with the DS version is the colors were way too desaturated. The great thing about N64 games were how they had so much vibrancy to make up for the graphics. Nintendo still carries that with htem to this day, which makes their games so much more magical than others.
Nintendo just shuts down every fan game
Should 3D Mario games have a run button or no?
ok BEN
No, that's idiotic with an analog stick
