U was contemplating whether or not to post this as well, but I'm glad I strayed away as it felt like console warring.

>Sony and Nintendo are both succeeding while Microsoft is floundering

God's in his heaven. All is right with the world.

it ain't got no games

>being this much of a corporate cocksucker brainlet

Also Microsoft is doing fucking terribly from a competitive angle, but still the xbone has been their greatest console profit to date. I assume they're going to try to not do another massive fuckup with their next gen console and are focusing on damage control until then

How is that possible after their whole "online-only" fiasco? Or did Xbox and 360 really do that badly?

OG xbox was a total loss money wise and the red ring recall cost the 360 several millions.

It sold just as bad as the PS3 last i checked.

good, microsoft must crash and burn, they are already bad enough in regards to OS and their incessant attempts to oust their competition via underhanded means instead of using their billions upon billions to make a product deserving of their pole position, but their behavior in the gaming market is worse.

Sony always win baby

360 had RRoD and was sold at a loss, not helped by Sony making a come back towards the end of the generation. OG Xbox speaks for itself, sold like shit, lost tonnes of money since games weren't profitable and once again was sold at a loss despite having insanely expensive hardware.

>Well shit.

What do you mean shit? We're finally leaving the worst consoles behind us.

These are the figures for sales revenue listed by the companies themselves:

Microsoft gaming:
Sales 1~3 2017: 1.9 billion USD
Sales 4~6 2017: 1.66 billion USD
Sales 7~9 2017: 1.89 billion USD
Sales 10~12 2017: 3.9 billion USD
Total CY 2017: 9.35 billion USD

Sony game and network services:
Sales 1~3 2017: 381,841 JPY
Sales 4~6 2017: 348,062 JPY
Sales 7~9 2017: 433,204 JPY
Sales 10~12 2017: 717,966 JPY
Total CY 2017: 1,881,073 JPY

Nintendo:
Sales 1~3 2017: 177,974 JPY
Sales 4~6 2017: 154,069 JPY
Sales 7~9 2017: 219,971 JPY
Sales 10~12 2017: 482,971 JPY
Total CY 2017: 1,034,986 JPY

By these numbers, it looks like Nintendo's market share was already bigger than Microsoft's last year.

I mean I didn't expect it would get THAT fucking big.

You are the one being a corporate cocksucker, there's no defending Microsoft, they do not improve the video games market at all, Sony and Nintendo competing against each other while PC is its own thing is the perfect scenario.

Why does anyone even bother comparing revenue?
>2007
>Playstation revenue: 1,016.8 billion yen
>Nintendo revenue: 966.5 billion yen
Close call, but Sony clearly wins. Of course Sony was selling $900 PS3's for $600 at the time.
>Playstation operating income: minus 232.3 billion yen
>Nintendo operating income: 397.8 billion yen
Nintendo was behind by 50 billion yen in revenue, but they won by 630 billion yen in profit.

The moment Microsoft lost 8th gen

No console war bullshit.

From a market and financial perspective, we havn't seen much of the Xbox brand last year in terms of promotion, growth, or recognition. The new Xbox made a splash, but the momentum has stalled.

>xbone e3 reveal
>windows 8

I've wanted that company to die ever since.

Fuck 'em.

"bad" is really terrible way to describe it. Both sold over 80m lifetime and not many consoles can claim that.

I don't mind if Microsoft fails gives them a good kick in the ass.
They need it for the cancer they have introduced.
But everyone needs someones ass to kick so the mindless consumers don't get fucked in the ass.
its been a shit show for 12 years.

OG Xbox huge still the best.

Would Sony and nintendo even be competing?
Specially when Sony and nintendo are going on different directions?
Sony is doing 1 player games with focus on "mature deep" narrative and VR, while nintendo is doing happy fun and cardboard

There will be no real competition

Well, revenue tells you how much the market is spending on a company's products. Profits are the most important to a company's success, but revenue is still useful information. And Microsoft doesn't state the actual profits of their gaming business. For Sony and Nintendo we know that their gaming profits were nearly equal in 2017 despite the revenue gap. We don't know Microsoft's gaming profits, but it's difficult to imagine that they are operating as efficiently with their budgets as Nintendo.

Only overlap is the weeb stuff though I see a ton of Switch owners really liking all the ported 3rd party stuff for some reason.

Nintendo isn’t competing with Sony you idiot

>Sony makes shitty cinematic experiences
>Nintendo makes the real video games

seems like a good deal to me

Another thing. Microsoft needs to promote the xbox as something that makes it stand out.

Most powerful console? Ok, now fucking what.

Would you think their plan of "you can have a Netflix like service but with games" would be enough to be unique?

If they promote it as such. Also all about the customers it will attract, the people who are already in, and the people who still don't own xbox consoles.

I think that is as well the plan with Microsoft making ports of their games to PC in the window store.
If you get the game pass, you get the pc version as well, so that is their way to pc and their play anywehere policiy.

and probably they may want everything from here to the future to be backward compatible, so they have a giant infinite library of games in their new montly fee system.

Wonder if the PS5 will be backward compatible or not.
