>spiritual successor
You mean Risen?
>It completely blows The Witcher 3 out of the water, its """"spiritual successor"""".
The Witcher has nothing to do with Gothic. Are you thinking of Risen? Maybe Elex?
It's no secret The Witcher was heavily influenced by Gothic, even CDPR have stated that themselves.
Yet it’s still trash
Being influenced by and being a spiritual successor are two completely different things, user. One very important thing being that spiritual successors are made by the same people. For example, Witcher 1 would only be a spiritual successor to Gothic 1 if both were made by Piranha Bytes.
shit game
Shit user
The Witcher is more or less a more user friendly Gothic with higher budget. Everything, from how the NPC treat Geralt and the "harsh" language, is basically Gothic.
Gothic 3 is the REAL successor
Gothic 3 is a MGS V tier of disappointment
Should I pull the trigger or should I get the collection for $9.99? Are the other games worth playing? Do I need to play Gothic 1 to understand 2? Collection includes:
ArcaniA
ArcaniA: Fall of Setariff
Gothic 1
Gothic ll: Gold Edition
Gothic 3
Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition
Exactly
Better than the others in every way it makes them shit
Gothic 2 is a direct Sequel to Gothic 1 and several characters make an appearance again/are important characters.
Would recommend playing G1 first, but it is not necessary.
>I know this game gets memed a lot here
literally no one gives a shit about gothic II
All the Gothics require fan patches except 3 which is best played vanilla
Do yourself a favor and avoid Forsaken Gods. Literally a Pajeet tier expansion.
I would argue that 3 needs the FP the most
That's just european RPGs in general.
Witcher 3 didn't take ENOUGH lessons from Gothic. There never should've been so much levels and equipment nonsense in your face when Gothic and even the first Witcher got it right. Constantly rotating gear simply devalues what you have compared to changing it when it's pertinent for the story.
Thanks for the info anons. Much appreciated I'll be sure to look on PCGamingWiki for any patches and such.
The Nordland trilogy wasn't like that and that's basically the only note worthy European RPG before Gothic.
>German RPG
I apologize.
No
Divinity series, for example elves will call you a half orc mutt if you aren't popular enough in the first game.
But The Witcher is polish.
>tfw before you nobody here mentioned Gothic 2
>tfw shilled this game but never played Gothic 2 because I think it looks like trash
Yes, but I can't name any European RPG in general that has such a grounded atmosphere and harsh language before Gothic. The game was so ground breaking mostly because of that, you were just some "who?" criminal and at the end you were still a "who?" criminal everyone hates and get insulted and treated like shit all the time.
>false flaging
Come on boy... sit by me... I will show you what happens to naughty false flagging shills.
>Constantly rotating gear simply devalues what you have compared to changing it when it's pertinent for the story.
You don't even need to do that though, unless you're retarded and didn't go after the witcher sets. After that it's just upgrading.
Starting as a hobo is a common trope on RPGs, also even if that was true, similar dialogue is no way near enough. You are comparing 2 games with widely different gameplay, you know, the most important part of a game?
Witcher, Gothic, and everything (else) that Piranha Bytes has ever done, are all basically attempts to do Ultima 9 right, which itself was an attempt to do a WRPG version of Ocarina of Time.
>Witcher, Gothic, and everything (else) that Piranha Bytes has ever done
Yes, I'm aware of that, but the influence from Gothic was in the world building (the CDPR guys named Gothic as a major influence in that regard, besides of the Witcher books I didn't read, so I can't compare that). The harsh language, the explicit sexual themes, that your Character is treated like worthless shit the entire time, regardless how much you progress in the story, all of that was a really big point in Gothic 1-3.
nigga learn to read
they aren't saying that piranha bytes made witcher
Witchers are pariahs though, it makes a lot of sense.
>they aren't saying that piranha bytes made witcher
>that reading comprehension
I think you need to go back into elementary school.
You can bet your fucking life that Witcher was influenced by Ultima.
In fact, here's a direct quote:
>What is your favorite game of all time?
>“Ultima VII: The Black Gate”
>–Witcher 3 Game Director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz – Source: Tech Radar (here: techradar.com
nigga no
they didn't say witcher was piranha bytes, they said "all the other shit piranha bytes made" or whatever
they ain't inaccurate
youtube.com
Gothic was still the major influence behind it.
>409066085
>After that it's just upgrading.
Yeah, which is about just as exciting. Fucking nothing to look forward until you reach the required level to upgrade Witcher sets. And if you're stealing everything you'll never be missing materials to do so.
Yeah, but Gothics also adopted elements from Ultima games and Witcher's implementation is much closer to those than to Ultima's. Then again, NPC routines and shit has become the norm anyway so there's really no point in splitting hairs where it comes from, for example. Pretty much ALL modern RPGs draw from Ultima games in some fashion or from their closer derivatives.
This is easily the worst game that Sup Forums has recommended
