Not really. Despite coming almost entirely out of the blue it's refreshing to see that the Light can be every bit as corruptive an influence as Fel.

It's expanding on the "the Light is not inherently Good" theme established when the Scarlet Crusade managed to keep their Priests and Paladins even when they were an ostensibly evil organization of religious fanatics.

You just have to accept that the 'lore' of the WarCraft universe is just a putty that Blizzard reshapes and resculpts whenever they like. There's no point in being invested in it, because what was true yesterday may be false tomorrow.

Dreadlords are naturally inclined to use shadow/void magic and even usually do so while serving the legion; since at least TBC with M'uru we've seen that light and shadow can be switched like a pendulum, this really doesn't break any lore, or establish new lore for that matter other than it shows that the light will purify people to join its army.

Before Chronicle retconned 85% of WoW's mythos and claimed "flavor lore" for all evidence that came before it, yes, it would be incredibly lore breaking. Now, Light is just as corruptive as fel and shadow-- oh, I'm sorry. VOID.

It's cool to see how the Light might take physical effect on things, only having seen fel/void corruption take place before. I've pretty recently dived into the whole Moorcock library, so I'm sorry if I were not aware of others using the same idea. Looking up "The Chronicles of Amber", they seem to be later than Moorcock's Elric/Eternal Champion series. Looks interesting.

People keep going on about how the light is evil now, but so far the only instance of that is still Xe'ra trying to force itself on Illidan.

So I finally got around to listening to the audio drama and lothrax mentioned the dreadlords being enslaved. Are they enslaved demons or have they gone the way of the eredar and were corrupted by Sargeras and not the corrupter? And if the latter did that encounter where they tell him about the void lords still happen?

It's really damn cool, highly recommended. Though the second series of books (books 6-10) are kind of weird, and not as well loved.

That was retconned at the time. It was the pointlessly evil dreadlords that made Sargeras turn evil, and then he corrupted the Eredar.

This has also been retconned again more recently - now Sargeras is evil because the void is bad. He freed the dreadlords and all of the other original demons and corrupted the Eredar.
