I worry super hard about them ruining the art style in PM64, I loved how that first game looks. It would be nice to have some extra things in it though, at least a damn shortcut back to Toad Toad after you beat Bowser like how the Pro Mode rom hack did.

The current director of the series was the art director for Paper Mario 64 though. Surely he'd be the best person to handle remaking PM64.

TTYD already set that shit up ages ago.

Make it a “foursome”, with Mario and Luigi each getting a set of sidekicks that mirror each other while also representing an aspect of the brothers. Mario gets an outgoing goomba, Luigi gets a shy guy. Mario gets a fearless dry bones adventurer, Luigi gets a cowardly but determined boo. Etc. Occasionaly, Mario and Luigi get seperated.

I think it's a little too soon even if we assume the bulk of Alpha Dream began working on it after Paper Jam with only part of the team making Superstar Saga DX, but I think it's going to make the jump to full 3D when it happens.

As for Paper Mario fans, I share all of your pain and I'd unironically look forward to a PM64/TTYD remake more than I would a new game.

I know that but it's been 18 years since the original Paper Mario, people change over time & even forget what made their original thing as nice as it was so I'm still worried. The closest thing I feel confident on the current team (mostly Director) doing is the character design due to the concept stuff seen in Color Splash looking akin to PM64 but even then they didn't show much of that stuff.

You say this but it's been 15 years since the first Mario & Luigi and they just remade it, plus that series has still kept the same gameplay style over five games.

You mention the Superstar Saga remake but I can actually use that as an example, I've seen so many bitch about the new versions of the OST in that. I didn't mind it all too much I could definitely see why people shat on it when they came out. I could see the same happening on the art style for a PM64 remake.

Paper Mario has sucked for years. M&L is still at least decent.

Square has done a good job making the past few Final Fantasy games feel terribly mundane and non-fantastic, I'd like to see them do that to the Mario world.
