How would you make a good game based in the Harry Potter universe?
Harry Potter
Unfortunately, you can't have a good game without good source material, and the game you're proposing would be based off of one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books were good though
"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
Some kind of MMORPG where you play as a student.
Came here to read this.
Just do this, a simple campaign in a kinda of open world
I fucking loved this game
Eternal reminder that the Harry Potter games for GBA and PS2 were eternal kino
I don't know why there isn't a large open world RPG where you create a character and live in the Hogwarts grounds doing cool wizard shit, attending classes, etc.
I want to kill whoever made that image.
Wasn't one of the new ones being made supposed to be that?
I can't find a good ISO of Chamber of Secrets (PS2) anywhere online and I really want to play it for nostalgia. Anyone have a good link?
I think the new mobile game is supposed to be like that, but someone told me it has a shitty energy system that would make most other mobile games look tame by comparison. Haven't actually verified that myself though.
I don't know, was something like this in production? I've never heard of it.
It sounds cool until you remember that it's just some mobile game with IAP and the usual stamina system or whatever
Didn't they also announce a new console/PC game in addition to that and the Pokémon Go-like one? Maybe I'm just misremembering.
...
READ ANOTHER BOOK
Did they? If they did, I must have missed it. All I've heard was the new one we're talking about and the Harry Potter Go one
Bully, but with magic.
Let players fug the furry magical creatures.
Bully with wizards? I'd play it.
There you go.
le based "No!" poster
Character creator, create whatever witch/wizard you want. You don't play as the main characters. You can explore the castle, join the quidditch team, join clubs, whatever the fuck. Sequel you play as a character going to school in the next generation after the main characters have graduated and has an original non shit storyline
Blows my mind that it hasn't been done. The setting is perfect for just creating your own wizard/witch and leveling up their proficiency in various different areas of magic. You could make your character an excellent duelist, or specialize them in potion mastery, or whatever. It doesn't even have to be Hogwarts.
I know elitists say the movie sucked, but I really liked the Fantastic Creatures movie being set in America. Not having to follow the adventures of Harry & the gang again was a breath of fresh air.
Googled around, the studio behind the mobile game said they're bringing "a series of mobile and console game experiences" based on HP. I guess that's what I was remembering, nothing's confirmed yet.
Fantastic Beasts was cool, it was Cursed Child that was utter shit.
My ideal has already been made
wish it had more content though, fucking slavshits
Beasts, whoops, that's right.
I'm cautiously optimistic for the sequel since Jude Law's cast for Dumbledore.
Reminder that this HAS been pitched to JK Rowling throughout the years, but she's rejected them since she wants any HP game to follow the main characters and only them
what a shit cunt
She's a hack now anyway after the Cursed Child, so it doesn't surprise me.
She did, now that she lost relevance she seems to be letting anyone do whatever with it. Problem is it's not as popular as it once was, so studios are probably not as interested.
Doesn't surprise me. She has also been extremely protective of her IP and now that she's a shrieking idpol harpy, there's no hope. Maybe when she dies whoever owns the estate will let a good game come out of it.
