Give me one, objective reason why I shouldn't play with a Hitbox considering it seems way easier to do inputs then on a fucking stick and won't fuck up my left arm.

Because you're sort of punished for being a fast button pusher.
Because its cheating and you should be considered a cheater if you use it and the FGC will look down on you
Also many tournaments ban cheat boxes
How so? I don't see how pressing buttons gets you punished.
>Also many tournaments ban cheat boxes
Which ones? Only old versions of SF4 and MVC3 were not allowed to be played with a Hitbox and they patched out the bullshit anyway.
Many tournaments still allows hitbox and I never heard anyone banning them except for smashbox.
bump
Find me one tournament in the past year that explicitly banned hitboxes in their ruleset. Hell, the past 3 years.
Nah, do it user. I just made the jump myself and couldn't be happier. Only took about a day or two to adjust after a solid two years playing on stick.
i switched to keyboard when tekken came out on PC
never looked back since
i dont go to tournaments anyway
BANNED
YOUR ALL BANNED TAKE YOUR STERIOD BOXES AND LEAVE
I only play Under Night and Skullgirls in my locals, but all these posts about how Hitbox makes life easier is just making me curious. How hard did you guys find it on keyboard/hitbox?
>fightstick thread
Here's my TES, not sure what I should do for art.
hitboxes are for bitches
...
Has anyone ever won a high profile tournament on a hit box?
Cloud805 won Battle for the Stones with a hitbox.
Pretty okay list
>bought some buttons to mod my cheap stick I never liked into a cheap hitbox that will at least be neat to try
>shipping them on a truck from a distributor in the city 5 hours drive away is 15$
>shipping them on a plane from fucking japan is 5$
I just want to press buttons
by fast he means he mashers and doesnt know the difference, there is no such thing as fast button pushing, only accurate button pushing in fgs.
Hori parts are fine, the buttons are practically identical to Sanwa buttons after you break them in. Hori joysticks are a little looser than Sanwa sticks, but that's preference whether or not that's a positive or a negative. Kind of a shit list for completely disregarding Hori sticks, but whatever. Whatever tripfag made this list is clearly a 09'er who's first stick was a TE.
If you do a half circle too fast it will actually prevent the opposite side's button from being read because of the built-in "Prevent left & right from being held" logic.
If you're holding left and right at the same time you aren't doing a half circle
If you're thinking the buttons aren't responsive enough or something, you're flat wrong

It doesn't even disconnect like the Atrox you autist.
No reason to get a Hitbox when the Mixbox exists, ding dong
New ps4 update broke the thing for the moment. So I guess that's a good reason.
It's like a hitbox without half the advantage of a hitbox
I play with a controller and desperately want to try one of these out. They're so God damn expensive.
the worst of both worlds right there.
I feel you, but I bought one for myself as a gift and I love the thing. A little awkward to get used to at first but damn does it feel good when you've gotten a handle on it. Having your right thumb being a dedicated jump button is the best thing ever.
Are there cheaper alternatives? At least to test it out and feel it? Cause I'm only JUST getting into fighting games (dbfz) and am looking to branch out (GG, blazblue, maybe Tekken or SF)and try to get decent.
I'm a faggot, I know. But I've gotta start somewhere.
I'd say the best alternative would be to set up your keyboard like a Hitbox.
I don't have money for either hitbox or stick, plus the shipping is really expensive as well
And I play on console. God dammit.
Fighting Games aren't the most accessible genre, so I have very little idea of what I'm doing/which games are even worth playing. I started with dbfz cause I like the IP and the game is really fun. I dig Tekken and I dig blazblue/GG, but I'm afraid to take the plunge cause I'll get washed.
Similarly, I don't want to invest in a hitbox and get frustrated and drop the game.
I'm just a whiny bitch, but at least you see where I'm coming from. Maybe.
They're really easy to DIY
Buy a PCB for whatever system you want, a bunch of buttons, some wires, and a nice box. If you can't solder you can get male/female push-in connector versions of everything, so all you actually need is to be able to drill the holes in the box in the right places.
A cheap PCB is like 15$, buttons are 2-3$ each and any sturdy wooden box you can find works.
What's a PCB?
Yeah, I considered something like that, but I'm worried I'd fuck it up and buttons wouldn't work correctly/the inputs will be delayed.
Maybe I'll look into it more.
PCB is the board that connects to all the buttons and turns it into real input data for the system. Stands for Printed Circuit Board.
For PC and last gen consoles they're cheap as fuck, but apparently you need a fancy expensive one to do ps4 because they've got controller security for some reason, that's annoying. I bet you can rip the board out of a controller but that would be way harder to put together.
Something like focusattack.com
>That direction layout
Nigga what.
If I wanted to do a hitbox style setup could I just use any fighter PCB? I would imagine not because a hitbox goes to neutral when you hit left and right and up when you hit down and up.
Has anyone tried going competitive with keyboard and mouse, or is that banned? Why do I need a controller or stick?
Why would you need a mouse?
I think that's something to keep in mind, but newer games may have already implemented that kind of prevention.
you can use anything
people have been competitive at EVO with PS1 controllers
I've seen japs use numpads in fighting games
Are sticks just memes then?
Depends, if the board has SOCD cleaning, simultaneous opposite cardinal direction, then it handles it. Some do some don't.
If not, it's not a huge problem anyway since all modern games take care of it on their own as well because controllers can do SOCD using the analog and d-pad.
It's all about personal preference
everything is purely preference
sticks are expensive as shit because they're such a novelty
Damn, so if I buy everything in that link, o just put it together in a box of sorts and I'm good to go..?
You need buttons too, but pretty much
Most of the time people use 8 24mm buttons for attacks and 3 24mm for left right and down and 1 30mm for up, then a couple extra 24s for menu buttons.
Arcade joysticks are basically just 4 buttons that get pressed when you move the stick around, so you just wire the buttons in where the microswitches for the stick were.
Right, so just follow a video and whenever they wire the joystick, just put four buttons for each direction instead. Sounds simple enough.
use slagcoin.com
buy all sanwa or semitsu parts
get some wood, a hand saw, some 1/4" dowels and 1/4" drill bit, wood glue, a 24mm and a 30mm hole saw and pilot bit for a drill and that's pretty much all you need aside from the arcade parts themselves
alternatively, get a shitty premade wooden box off of amazon and drill the holes in that, still need the hole saws
e.g
amazon.com
depending on how much of the tools you already have, it can easily be the cheapest option by fall
I'm too brainlet for this shit. Between me and my pals, we've got the tools to do it. I think I'll look into this a bit more and do it. Thank you for the help.
Aren’t 360 motions insanely error prone with a hitbox?
All the $200 fight sticks you see are just glorified boxes with some arcade parts.
They're pretty easy to make yourself, go for it.
Maybe slightly trickier to get consistent by pianoing, but you can slide across them. Only the top level execution gods can do standing 720s on a stick but any scrub can learn to slide 720s out on a hitbox with a bit of work.
Thanks, man. I'll do some digging and pick some brains.
if you have hand problems, or just don't want to have hand problems in the future, go for it. hitbox feels much better to play on.
super akouma plays on hitbox and he won enough in the yuropoor region to qualify for the tekken world finals. **and then he got bodied but still**
the most notable is still probably is REO who used it for mk9 where it certain things borderline broken
Really interesting, I'll look into it.
Is it that hard to make if you're a brainlet?
did you ever make a bird house when you were an 8 year old?
yeah? if you can do that, you can do this
They go for like 300$ that's way too much, and also if you are used to arrow keys for directions than its useless.
I really wish they made a mixbox version with direction keys on right, it would have been perfect.
Also is snes pad a good pad for fighting games
Absolutely not, I even have troubles to put the chains back on a bike, to give you an idea. I can have both the tools and the materials easily, but I'm downright retarded when it comes to this. What I fear the most is soldering the pcb. Plus the links that user posted earlier only describe how to build sticks, not hitboxes (although it's very similar of course)
you don't have to solder anything if you get a proper fight stick PCB
they usually run ~$10-15
>soldering
bruh, not necessary
Modern PCBs will cost at least $40, user. And that's if you want to play on a single system.
But you should. Hitbox is amazing, especially for airdashers. Other games benefit as well.
But there aren't enough ports to connect the buttons, are there?
the blue strip has 20 marked ports for all of your face buttons
Friendly reminder this list is highly inaccurate and should not be taken seriously to any degree.
Does the brook universal PCB have the left-right, up-down neutral thing? I saw some ready to mod parts package on some site for about $130, so all I would need is a shoebox and some basic tools right?
technically you need two wires for each button
but you can do one dedicated wire for each button and then daisy-chain the ground connections together.
Left-right, yes. Up-down gives you up.
Did 5.50 update fucked my brook board? My hitbox turn off every 8 minutes now. What should I do now?
>get a used trash tier stick and swap in the parts and buttons you want
objective master race
I bought the Mayflash and just put Sanwa parts in it
I'm pretty sure it does, but check the description page for SOCD cleaning, which is what that is
hitboxes should be banned
I personally think that a stick was a real advantage in older fighters, but games have gotten more streamlined and a lot of them are built on console first with the controls in mind instead of getting ported over from arcade. I still feel weird playing SFII on pad but I've never had a problem with them in SFIV.
Just wait. They're trying to fix it right now. Keep an eye out on Twitter.
ya it actually makes sense
Thanks. Checked the twitter and looks like they already have a solution.
Yeah, I was so fucking scared it had bricked after only owning it for 4 months.
This was very funny. He instantly becomes angry
It happens super often when they release a new update. Luckily Brooks always fixes it up in a very short amount of time.
post your fight sticks or hitboxes nerds
That's a decent way to get a good feeling stick for cheap (except the weight, must feel really light).
However, it's a crapshoot when it comes to the PCB. Those are probably shoddy as fuck.
I own it for a year now and it's the first time it happened.
One of these days I'll mod the stick on these fuckers and then you'll ALL be sorry
cardboard fighting stick
It really depends on the game you play and the way they handle inputs, in some games hitbox is actually harder.
It literally does not, the entire reason you would use buttons instead of a stick is so that you can have one finger on each direction at all times. Putting the directions in a keyboard layout is retard tier unless you're planning on palsying the fuck out of your hand.
Rap 4 should come with hayabusa stuff now
That image pretends Hori parts aren't as good or better than Sanwa now.
Ordered some Sanwa parts for my stick, looking forward to putting them in. Got some colored buttons for the top row, want it to resemble the NeoGeo buttons. Now I just need to settle on a faceplate design.
No joke, someone actually plays fighting games with pic related and does fairly well. Wish I could find the video.
I use a Hori stick for Soul Calibur. I'm not a fan of sticks but arcade buttons are much better for SC, and none of the other options (hitbox or keyboard box) are good for 3D fighter.
I'm thinking of a fighting commander but I heard they have shit build quality? Can I use the buttons piano style or are they too small?
Anyone have a hitbox template for a Madcatz TE2
thnx in advance
>alternative control methods shouldn't be allowed even if they're objectively superior because it's not what I grew up with
There, saved you from watching a 10 minute video.
I'm just saying, I got my Rap4 and a month later they announced that. I swaped everything for senwan right when I got it because I really dig the color purple
I got my shit kicked in by some guy in Melty at a tournament using one them
FC4 I had was pretty good quality But someone who I played with had one break on him the first month he had it and yes you can use it piano style
Did your RAP4 have Kuro or something?
Not that guy but I got a RAP 4 with Hayabusa stick and Kuro buttons. I really like both of them and won't be changing them.
Idk
Does your stick say hayabusa at the bottom right or just Rap4?
