probably paper mario even though it was lacking in the combat department
Why do people hate partner in time again?
I don't know but I think I'm going to play it again soon
I love SMRPG. It was just so different and weird. It has its detractors though, even though it has probably one of my favorite turn-based combat systems.
I love all the ones posted here. TTYD holds a special place in my heart because it was a gift from my deceased great grandmother and it helped me teach my baby bros to read.
SSS=TTYD>PiT>BIS>PM>DT>PJ=RPG
No overworld
Babies add nothing other than tedium
Bro attacks as consumable items
TTYD gave me such a grand, whimsical sense of adventure that I haven't been able find in a game since.
Why do we hate SPM?
The real question is whether it's an RPG or a platformer.
BIS is the best M&L title. SSS comes in a close second. Don't care to compare series because they're so different
I know, right? Shit was magical. And curveballs like the wrestling shit and the train were just lovely.
Paper Mario on the N64 had the best balance of combat, exploration, puzzles, and funny writing imo. TTYD is leaps and bounds better in combat and writing, but really drags with backtracking in a couple areas I'd say either one of those, but Superstar Saga is fucking incredible in its own right, minus the plot turning into shit in the last third. And all of them have fucking amazing soundtracks up until Dream Team.
Bowser's Inside Story and Super Paper Mario they've got the best villains
Doesn't the last boss fight take like 30 minutes?
SMRPG
3 party member combat,
preference for how it handled timed hits
weird/fun and unique world
mini games
whacky scenarios
Just overall my favorite of the bunch
>tfw friend gave me her copy of TTYD for free
Cant wait to start it, I'm waiting for a chance to play it with my brother because he doesn't remember every detail like I do so he makes for a good gamin' audience, his sense of wonderment isn't dead like mine
;_;
RPG with real-time combat
>posting anything except SMRPG
is it fun being objectively wrong?
Enjoy user, I wish I could play that game for the first time again.
Mario Golf.
TTYD=BIS > PM64 > SSS > RPG > PIT > CS > DT > SPM > PJ > SS
Me too, I fudged my original playthrough and quit at Shadow Queen since I underprepared
plus I had a habit of collecting strategy guides so I basically knew the game before I beat it. Damn good bestiary though, had all the tattle log entries
ive only fully played SMRPG, PM, and TTYD and I loved each one. SMRPG is my favorite out of the three. Also it is the most traditional RPG out of them all so that kinda gives it more points in my book. But PM and TTYD are great for very unique reasons.
SMRPG LotSS is the best of the mario RPGs, but Paper Mario 2 is very close behind it.
TTYD is my favorite, with both SMRPG and PM following close behind. I like the M&L games but they're not quite the same. Too many mini-games imo.
>TTYD=BIS
The correct answer, and I barely even played TTYD.
BiS is GOAT
Because it's Mario & Luigi : Duramboros Edition
Will we ever meet them agian?
Based on how they jumped straight from the Superstar Saga remake to the Bowser's Inside Story remake I'm guessing it's not Partners in Time.
Worst OCs
> Bunch of aliens that just speak in jibberish
> Annoying Koopa reporter
> Two Toads who essentially just die, in which Toadbert becomes better is BIS
> Most of the main characters come from pre-existing characters anyway like Paper Jam
BIS isn't very good.
The fact that people here rate as highly or higher than SSS, PM and TTYD disgusts me.
confirmed for smash 5
I wish.
What don't you like about BiS?
Every 30 minutes you're forced into an awful stylo/rythm minigame to stimulate Bowser's body.
The overworld is extremely restrictive as Bowser and backtracking as the bros is an annoyance.
It had the most unimaginative locations in the series before PJ.
Bowser's combat is too barebones and easy.
Level design feel unfinished, there are the blocks that unlock attacks to collect to incentivy exploration but in most occasions the game hands you a bunch of them at once.
2D sections feel like a missed opportunity, but at least DT explanded on them.
Bowser's Inside Story was my favorite game for a very long time. Haven't played it in ages and having loved my recent replay of Superstar Saga I hope it's as good as I remember when I get the remake.
That being said, it'll remain my favorite, but TTYD is the best in my opinion. Also credit to SSS for probably having the most uniquity.
great music too
they just needed a few more mob fights in the game.
>Paper Mario gets a character reveal for smash 5
>Paper Mario HD Collection with pm1 and ttyd released
>New Paper Mario inspired by the 2 first games announced
thoughts?
And then you wake up all sweaty.
Given Nintendo is making better decisions with newer games it’s not farfetched to think we won’t get a return to form and the devs did mention that a remake of TTYD is possible
I'll reconsider Mario RPG's again when this happens. Otherwise I won't bother
Sticker star and color splash were weak as Fuck games but I still enjoyed them for what they were. Though I’m still angry at the weak representation of the Mario World
Paper Jam is a fantastic game only held back by no original story and characters, it did what SS and CS failed in using the Mario World characters properly
I literally don’t get the hate for Dream Team, you learned something new, no shit your getting told how to use it
Otherwise the rest of both series are great, even PiT
Question since i didn’t play the remake, did SSS+BM have a Boss Rush?
Follow up, I hope they give bowser a boss Rush in the BiS remake
SSS+BM was literally a remaster, they only updated the sprites and modified some small things, so a boss rush mode wasn't added
Paper Jam is held back by the insane padding that are all the Toads collecting shit missions.
if that happens i would be so happy
My favorites are both the first Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi games. Maybe it's a safe thing to say but I do mean it. They're the ones I go back to more often then the others.
Honorable mention to SMRPG. I also really enjoy it and replay it sometimes.
>Just rented Paper Mario 64
>First time playing
>In my room at night
>Sitting cross-legged on bed
>Have blanket wrapped around me
>Bowl of popcorn and soda in front
>Reach shooting star summit
>Whole room dims and this music comes on
>MFW

Comfy as fuck, I'll never forget that moment.
I like the toad missions
It was a nice change of pace in the already great gameplay with all the different types. Hide N seek being interestingly bullshit
But I can see why people don’t like it, but it wasn’t really a major flaw, the abundance of the roads themselves seem to be the problem
this is was me man. i remember when i was in daycare and all the kids would go to the tv in the teachers lounge to play paper mairo
ttyd
>why
whyfoos
The first Paper Mario easily has the better atmosphere and world building
Thousand year door is fucking amazing and has the best level design, but original Paper Mario’s atmosphere is fucking 11/10
Wait that was supposed to happen? I thought there would be post game and my copy of the game was broke.
It should say peeling sticker instead.
Are there any other games that do a crowd mechanic like TTYD?
>Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Super Paper Mario no even included
I know they can't qualify for best, but they aren't so bad they should be forgotten.
excuse me?
>What worries me
The devs saying in the interview that they want to keep doing new different things with Paper Mario
>What gives me hope
Nintendo’s recent strategy of adding a lot more advance options to their newer games. Assuming we get a paper Mario with a new gameplay style, we can still get an advanced new system with RPG elements
General consensus is that SS and CS would’ve been better accepted if the gameplay was better made
Count Bleck and his cronies were fucking gold.
SS and CS aren't even RPGs.
Stop using your extra exp points on anything that isn’t attack and you won’t have a time problem with bosses
>General consensus is that SS and CS would’ve been better accepted if the gameplay was better made
And if they hadn't deliberately avoided making new characters.
They're as much RPGs as various other outliers from other franchises that still lay claim to the genre.
>tfw one of the few, if only, people who prefers original Paper Mario over TTYD
Yeh I appreciate the change in environment, the interesting characters, the whole stage set-up for battles...and yet, I always enjoy going back to the N64 game more so than the GC one. Perhaps I just prefer the aesthetic and superior comfyness of it all.
Thoughts on the remake? I wan't to play SSS again and I'm wondering if this will disappoint, haven't SSS in a few years.
I feel this was never the case if it was used properly
Tanabe is a Fucking moron who doesn’t know shit about the Mario World, we could’ve gotten a much better world with various Mario characters from all his games
They don't have a character progression system based on EXP, level and stats. They're not RPGs.
The creators themselves said that they're action/adventure games.
It’s still the same great game
All the nitpicks are with designs and music but it’s still the same great game
Don’t play bowser’s minions though
a few sprites are changed that people don't like and the on-field bros moves are simplified heavily, but it's a decent remake
It's a faithful remake in pretty much everyway besides some added QoL changes from the other M&L games.
Villain power rankings
Fawful > Bowser > Dimentio > Antasma > Paper Bowser > Smithy > Bleck > Cackletta > Black Paint > Grodus > Xx_shadow_queen_xX
>best level design
you mean corridors you have to go back and forth multiple times?
I know TTYD improved a lot on 64 but level design was the one thing that went completely backwards
>the on-field Bros moves are simplified heavily
You mean made less annoying to switch between
It’s a solid remake; could have used some extra main-game content but oh well
as opposed to shy guy's toybox and flower fields
Original was kind of like that too though
Chapters 4 5 and 6 were based around Backtracking in PM
you can't experiment with pre-learned moves anymore which takes a lot of character out of the game, pressing R and L a few times was never really annoying in the first place
Thanks anons, I think I'll pick it up soon
I wouldn't recommend it.
Nigga the only pre-learned move you need to reuse is digging
More up-to-date chart.
The designs are a lot better what’s your point?
desu the only change that bugs me is the big clumsy koopa changed to a regular one. As long as the gameplay and dialogue remain
SMRPG changed my life as a kid. I could never get into any of the Paper Mario games, the aesthetic felt like such an affront to SMRPG. I loved SSS though, it felt like a return to form, but I'd kill to see another Mario RPG under Sakaguchi's guidance.
Only shitty thing is Bink, other than it's aight
I'm talking about trying to do a move before you know how to do it, in the original game, when Luigi hits Mario with his Hammer without learning the technique, Mario would get angry at him, there was an animation for every move before you learned how to properly do it, those are all gone in the remake
Anyone else pissed off by Super Dimentio? The guy was built up throughout the game to be some master illusionist, and then his big trick was a giant damage sponge with simple attack patterns. Disappointing af final boss
>Bowser over Bleck and Dimentio
Only real problem with the remake designs is their obsession with stay as on-model as possible to other Mario games when it comes to recurring species like Koopas, Bullet Bills, and Birdo, as well as a few annoying replacements. It makes to feel too sterile and copypaste
Otherwise, for things that are original and more unique to M&L, their new models are mostly an improvement.
What do you guys think fo the Mario Tabletop RPG?
I feel that TTYD was considerably better in the atmosphere department. Toad Town was fine and all, but it felt pretty 'vanilla' in comparison to Rogueport; especially when you factor in the sewers. Also, while weak in other aspects, the feel of Boggly Woods was amazing. The Palace of Shadow >>>>>>>> Bowser's Castle, too.
