Love the world building, combat systems, graphical style and game pacing

>hate that deep down it's just a shitty board game and the objective is to win as soon as possible and hard as possible instead of creating crazy awesome empires and having epic scale wars with like 50 nations all vying to be the best
is there a game that will satisfy my Civ fix?

Distant Worlds: Universe is pretty damn good if you dont mind space instead of ground. Its less about winning and more about running your empire, which also has a private sector economy of miners and transports which really helps make the galaxy feel alive. Its not turnbased though, its RTWP. But you can automate as much or as little of your empire as you like, if you really dont like something, just get the AI to do it based on the guidelines/policies you set.

>the objective is to win as soon as possible and hard as possible instead of creating crazy awesome empires
turn off all the victories except domination and play on king or emperor

How does it compare to Stellaris?

Civilization revolution :^)

Does only allowing domination change how the AI plays? Will they be more aggressive? Or will science and culture based civs still turtle even though they can't win that way?

Stellaris is dogshit so anything will be better in comparison

>Does only allowing domination change how the AI plays?
no

Is Civ 6 good yet?

this, every time I play i end up fucking doing nothing for 8 hours or fighting in those gay blob wars.

no

was just about to ask that. Multiplayer is the obvious answer ignoring the design flaws that come with a turn based real time game but Civ is so buggy and broken it's a nightmare just getting a 6 player game going

Endless Legend is like civ but better in every way

it's too confusing

Honestly i dont know since i dont really pay much attention to paradox games. People harp on about the price of DW:U never lowering and rarely going on sale but atleast its the full game and not bloated with DLCs.

>want to get into 4x and grand strategy more
>discouraged by the horribly simple AIs that plague the genres
Real AI can't come soon enough

Cultists are fun as fuck

The Endless series in general may have the worst UI I have ever seen. It seriously ruins the games for me, it's so awful both visually and in terms of usability.

sounds like you want to play RTS, they focus more on city / world building

try Age of Mythology

I have the opposite experience once I got used to it coming from civ

>spend a month creating own AI
>change your build order in an unexpected non-intuitive way
>AI breaks

you are fucking retarded

Anno 1404
Rimworld
Rise of Nations
Crusader Kings 2 (maybe)
Tycoon games like Prison Architect or The Movies (maybe)

Try some of these.

The Endless series always feels alittle too... abstracted to me. I dunno how to put it, everything just becomes numbers on the screen.

I thought that at first too, but it's really not that bad once you just sit down and learn it. It kinda dumps everything on you early, but it doesn't add terribly much as the game goes on.

Northgard is pretty good. I've been having fun with it and Civ series are among my favorite games.

also try:

Reus
Surviving Mars (coming in a few days)
Tropico series
Cities: Skylines

>2018
>civ games still dont have capable AI

Is there a game like Banished but less... bad?

I like building up a settlement, managing everything, teching up, etc, but I want to start from nothing.

rimworld is probably the closest to what you want.

>difficult to learn easy to master
GAME DESIGN!

There are a lot of other games that try, but not really that are better than Banished.

Real AI would be a cold min-maxer who would exploit all your weaknesses and crush you like a bug, or she could become social towards you and maybe even become your waifu.

anno 1404 comfiest strategy game of all time

>ubisoft
no thanks

I'm a huge fan of the series and will most likely but every expansion of 6 and dlc, but as of now I can not in good conscious recommend Civ 6. It's a mess and definitely a rip off at full price.

Either buy Civ 5 complete edition when it's on sale, or keep playing it with the vox populi mod if you already have it.

thats not what that means at all but ok

>thought Rise and Fall looked kind of good, lots of new and interesting decisions to be made
>29.99
2K can kill themselves.
Fuck
That

Kind of good + big name = big dollars
And there's no bigger name in the genre than Civilization.

I bought Civ 5 for $10 with all it's DLC, 69.99 + 29.99 + individual Civs + another 29.99 for the next expansion is a load of complete horse shit.
Hopefully people don't fall for this money grabbing scam.
There will NEVER be a 10/10 GOTYAY Civ game as long as it's tied to a shitty and worthless publisher like "we want lootboxes in all future games" 2K Games

There'll be a fire sale on Civ VI too in a few years.

it would be a lot better if the battle system wasn't so shit
>every war begins with 15 minutes of trying to chase the enemy's fleet down
>once that's finally done you can actually start conquering them
>only that it's pointless because of the war point system that leaves you with a pitiful amount of planets obtained once the enemy gives up

Play Realism Invcitus for Civ 4

They also added a war wariness system in where if you don't win the war in a certain amount of time you're forced into white peace regardless of how well you're doing.

There was also a bug in the latest patch that generated 50 gb error logs for a 5 gb game

>you're forced into white peace
They removed that. Now you just get penalties to unity and influence and happiness if you don't make peace.

I liked how Endless Legend with the right game settings and quest victory can mean military domination will take far too long, and you're better off completing your faction's objectives to escape the planet.

>Perhaps Dominions V
Dominions is even worse for this than Civ, to be honest. It's almost purely a wargame where your only goal is to BTFO all other nations.

It's a great game and you can definitely get your fix for cool huge battles if that's what you're after, but I doubt it's what the OP is looking for considering how little actual empire building it has.

And then ES2 retcons everything saying that vaulters were the only one to escape and the other ship exploded in orbit

Except the A.I. seems so retarded it literally does nothing and fails to even put up a decent fight.

What are you smoking? RTS is nothing but pure combat and min maxing.

just like all 4x games then

There's an AI mod that makes it somewhat better.

Sup Forums here, if you want a Civ game with lots of players you should try Freeciv. I'm not sure if you can get 50 but you can have way more players then any mainline commercial Civilization game. Unfortunately it lacks a lot of the mechanics introduced in later Civs. It's a shame because I love how culture and religion work in Civ 5. I haven't looked for it, but I really hope someone made a mod to add those kinds of mechanics into Freeciv.

Stellaris

The artstyle is so fucking bad though. It looks oppressive and soul crushing.
