Wii Fit Trainer represents a game that sold better than nearly every other character on the roster, and some of those characters have been around for 2+ decades.

Only 2 of the 6 Melee clones came back to Brawl, neither of the Brawl clones made it in before DLC and Wolf never returned period.

I was an advocate of Ike being removed but after hearing he was back for 4 and after the FEH character polls it cemented the fact that he's too popular to remove as FE's 2nd rep to both FE fans and Smash fans. I'd be fine with trimming it down to just Marth and Ike, then at most the main lord of the next time. If a fourth is needed, then Roy can slip back in

Shulk, his respective IP and developer studio are being fully owned by Nintendo since 2007 but for some reason people still thing Monolith is still working like some sort of third party with benefits for some reason.
Also Bayo is not fully owned by them but Minty have the publishing rights for her games and since Bayo 3 is coming this years as a Switch exclusive I highly doubt they will not take the chance to use Smash as promotion for another game once again.

I have a feeling we are getting a smaller roster in the new one. I wish Wolf would come back, but theres no reason for them to promote star fox anymore so its never happening. Dr Mario and Dark Pit are obviously out. They should get rid of Corrin and Bayonetta because they are OP as fuck. Its kind of a shame. One of the best thing about a new smash game is more characters, but i just have this feeling that we will get like 40 total in the new one. Mainly because its only going to be a 4 year difference in release from 4.

Personally I think either Greninja or Lucario isn't coming back and the one that gets cut gets replaced by a gen 7 rep.

You're delusional. Lucario is the secondary mascot of Pokemon and Greninja is still wildly popular and can utilize its Ash form as its Final Smash.

Why would Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Shulk, and Pac-Man be removed? You don’t like them? The rest make sense, but those four not really. Pac-Man won’t be cut. Though Namco may not be helping with this Smash, it looks like them and Nintendo still have great relations.

Yeah no. That's like cutting out an entire franchise and Sakurai doesn't want to do that unless it cannot be avoided like with Snake and Ice Climbers. WFT and LM are perfect reps for their franchises and bring unique movesets. Pac-Man is a classic character. Sakurai loves the classics. I'm pretty sure Bandai wouldn't mind Pac-Man getting in for Smash 5.

We have nothing that says his moveset is changing more wildly than Melee to Brawl with OoT Link to TP where Hookshot got reskinned to the Clawshot and the Boomerang got turned into Gale Boomerang.
1 modified special, and it was a custom level of difference.
Mario's moveset changed more than that in the same jump.

1. gut the entire cast
2. build it back up with a focus on 1st party superstars
3. give them all new movesets. Rework each character from the ground-up

roster would be smaller, but at the same time fresh and refined. I mean lets be real, they're going to have to do this eventually. We don't need 100 literal who shitters clogging up everything
