The whole thing makes me think he's either in some sort of hostage situation, or that in the story's real world there's some shit going down regarding these videogames, like Paul is some sort of beta tester for haunted games

I think he started out playing it on his own with some other nameless person but after that 3 month break someone began forcing him to

user, while I don't think he made a full, complete game, Petscop is almost certainly being done in a game engine of some kind. Likely Unity, if I had to guess though why he didn't bother using that free PS1 texture warping shader you can get for Unity is beyond me.

If it is a game, it'd be neat if it got released at some point near the end for viewers to explore on their own.

While that would be cool, I doubt it'd work. He's probably just got a few maps that he fucks around with to set up on a per-video basis, so at most it'd be like walking through a movie set with all the actors just standing around waiting for instructions.

I also think that, but on the other hand, I don't see this going anywhere that doesn't involve actually releasing the game for people to play

Yes the earlier quit demo didn't have the quit option, except I think this time pauls playing, and its no longer really a true Demo.

Either that or he was never playing, he's just commenting over something that has already been recorded

But That makes no since, because in episode 2 he talks about having to edit the video to find when the windmill switches direction.
