What a hero

They do complement each other well.
Japanese are a bunch of autists that do gameplay, art and music very fucking well, but suck at everything else.
And americans do everything but gameplay, art and music well.
Combine the best of the both worlds and you get a very, very nice game.

Good job Corey.

Supposing he made that post when he joined, we graduated at the same time. It makes me happy that at least one of us has accomplished their goals.

He's already doing some directing jobs in other GameFreak games. We may even see the day that he will be the director for a main series Pokemon game.

my dreams were to be either 1) an astronaut
or 2) a power ranger
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 14 and found out I couldn't be in any military branch or fly a plane ever

Eh, it's not really hard to find a bunch of random Flips in the art or animation credits in a Japanese game. Cant say I'm proud considering most of the work they do is just in between animation jobs.

SEGA's success was having a hands-off strategy. SOJ just sent everything to SOA and SOE and said "make marketing that will work for your region"
The only character Sonic has in-game is wagging his finger and his impatient idle animations, he's a character with no dialogue

I'm glad I didn't fall for the "video game development" "degree" meme either. Have you noticed how it's always the same neckbearded, brings their 3DS in public type that do these courses?

You think these people would study game theory and learn how to code.

I tried to be a Light Novel writer and made my own art, made I simply sucked on both fields. Doesnt help that I failed to capitalize on getting a solid footing on deviant art or pixiv when both sites were still booming. I mean, I guess the 5 year experience was kinda memorable, but I didnt really achieve much. I think I'm more comfortable at my engineering job that pays well at the moment. I get to buy stuff I want and being just a consumer eases away all the heartaches of not achieving your dreams.

I fucking hate Sup Forums. If that image excluded the part about him actually working there, you fuckers would be mocking him for having high ambitions. Fucking hypocrites.

Great to hear you became an engineer, but seriously, visit /ic/ and use their sticky, as well as the OP post in their Alternative Art thread. Even if it takes a while, you should learn how to become a better artist for fun.

I already looked it up man, the fact he at least got into the credits is something.

>making fanfics about Sup Forums reacting to things in your head
Now that's sad

At this point I don't have it in myself to laugh at them, I saw so many "vidya game development" degree aspirants both in high school and college that were genuinely motivated, starry-eyed, and excited and I think the industry could use that kind of excitement

They just fell down the dumb meme path and got invested into it and their hopes and dreams will inevitably be shattered once they graduate and their "degree in video game development" resumes get thrown in the trash immediately, their enthusiasm ultimately dying without ever having made a mark, replaced by college debt that they are incapable of paying off

It was funny at first but over the years I could only take so much schadenfreude. I feel for them the same way I feel for people who got suckered in by ITT Tech - remember them? Wasted enthusiasm is nothing but a shame, and unlike ITT Tech victims their loans won't be forgiven

>If this was different you would be reacting differently.

whoa....really makes you think doesn't it?

Corey made his dreams come true, meanwhile your most satisfying thing in life will be this (you)

Yeah cos Sup Forums is known for being a welcoming and supportive place. Hence why you called my a nigger and told me to kill myself.

I hate to sound like a dick to these people, but in reality these people really lack the talent or real drive. Most come off as "idea guys". I didn't know that they did these courses in American colleges though. They only host them in private "colleges" in my country.

t. ESL game design major

What do you even learn in a "video game development" degree?

no one give a flying fuck. Just go write a post on your fucking blogspot then kill yourself go damn it.

Probably learn basic programming stuff and they allow you to make simple games on hands on workshops.

>if he didn't accomplish anything then you would be mocking him

Outsourcing.

That's my plan too. Invest well, retire early and live how I want.

Everyone loves Corey until some 15 year old from Tennessee finds out he said something liberal somewhere and then we can all scream about him singlehandedly destroying Japan and Japanese media.

Outsourcing. Lots of Filipinos and Indians too.

No, we laugh at shit like a guy obsessed with Danny Phantom trying to become a big YouTuber, failing, then killing himself in the most pathetic way possible because he keeps failing.
I'd only laugh at this if he was penniless and on the streets.

From what i can tell, these are kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" thing. I volunteered for a summer camp kind of thing for this kind of stuff as a kid, might not be the same as the actual degrees but it involved very light programming, very light education on modelling, art. Nothing in depth, and nothing that will actually thoroughly educate you on these subjects enough to make you desirable for employment.

The logic that a lot of VGD students have is that this cursory education in many fields makes them more versatile and desirable. They believe specializing in one single aspect might make it harder to find employment, or they don't want to just be "programmers" or "artists" or "animators" they want, specifically, to be "video game developers" so they go for VGD. The reality is though you have to actually be specialized in something to find employment in video game development.

Another similar issue is how people who aspire to work in law enforcement commonly pursue criminal justice degrees, because it's most directly related to police work itself; when police departments really want to hire people with specialized degrees (like information technology. accounting, electronics) so they have something more tangible and in-depth to bring to the table.

Just as they need to do a better job of educating on non-college careers, the school system needs to do a better job of educating on what degrees actually contribute to employment in these big fields.

>Be Australian
>Wanted to have a music career
>Unless I want make boring indie-pop, there's no hope for it
>Don't have the resources to produce my own music right now anyway and have to learn theory first
>Want to make games, but have to improve my math before I can even think of coding
>Drawing will take years to master
>Can't be a film director because lol Australian film and television industry

You Americans really take advantage of living in the land of opportunity. Australia literately hates anything that's creative or remotely innovative. Unless you're a tradesman, in retail or involved in oil, you're fucked.

Attached: UnionX 2nd Anniversary Art.jpg (1979x2048, 535K)

But of course. "I wanna live in Japan and work for Nintendo" t. white guy sounds completely ridiculous, it's something about five million kids have probably said. The fact he made it happen is impressive as fuck.

"we'll make our OWN power rangers dude" doesn't quite cut it
do you know the story of King Nekketsu? now there's a fucking success story
tl;dr: American sailor stationed in Japan gets an offer for part-time side work and it literally ends up being a position as a suit actor for Kamen Rider stage shows

It's sad because most of the industry's greats started off doing shitty jobs and moved up. It's like they just want to be the "idea guy" and not have to put in the work. At least what who people call "idea guys" on Sup Forums like Kojima have talent in cutscene direction, among other things.

This is correct

I have major depressive disorder and the pills don't work, I'm just waiting to die

Attached: omae wa mou shindeiru.jpg (960x758, 146K)

>the pills don't work
found your problem

I don't get it. You look at the screen with smug satisfaction and a twinkle in your eye? What's that about?

If you have the internet, you're as able to do anything as everyone else.
>bringing random political shit up about someone actually accomplishing their dreams
hmmmmmmmm

Thanks man I never thought about it that way.

>hmmmmmmmm
Finish that thought and prove me right, faggot

>wanted to become a big shot concept artist and work with the likes of Type-Moon
>for people to give a shit about your work, you have to spend years doing commission works on subjects you care little about, from shit like Naruto to generic western fantasy characters
>pretty much have no control on what I draw
>all just to build up a loyal fanbase

Eh, it wasn't really worth it.

I believe that a lot of these kids, if they actually understood the reality of the situation, they wouldn't be entering into debt for a useless degree. Maybe not all, but a lot of them would certainly actually specialize in something and not bother with VGD degrees if they knew VGD degrees were toilet paper.

In school, these VGD programs were advertised left, right, and center. The people responsible are preying on impressionable children who don't know any better. In the past, a lot of the big names still started out as dorks and losers sitting in basements -- but not only were these things less complex to get involved in, they also weren't being led astray by these shitty programs. Like I said, there is a lot of genuine enthusiasm for the industry that is dying before it ever sees the light of day, and with the current state of the video game industry we need this kind of enthusiasm. It's not enough to simply write them off as only being ideas guys when the majority of them don't know any better. The school counselors and consultants that they were led from day one to entrust with their future aren't telling them what they need to do to work in video game development, they're signing them up for these fad degrees.

Found another substitute besides playing games, drawing

the easy way failed you (and the easy way fails most people, the pills are objectively shit, 80% of people have their symptoms come back)
now you can either try and fix it the hard way or you can cry about it for the rest of your life, because it never goes away and it never gets better on its own

What are you meant to do if it's a chemical imbalance in there brain.

>Is now in charge of the character design in FFVII's remake

>people still believe this is happening

By the sounds of a posting from today, it's not coming this generation at least. It's another Versus.

It's a legitimate issue being inflated by people who are only mentally fucked up because they lead unhealthy lifestyles. There have always been genuine victims of depression, but now suddenly everyone and their mother is depressed, even if you ignore the hip trendy kids with their ironic depression "haha i want to die every day xD" shit. Human beings are social creatures that rely on the presence of a lot of environmental factors to operate properly. Diet, social interaction, physical activity, even literally just being in the sunlight for a while.

While it's not going to be enough for a minority of people who genuinely do have hard mental issues, a lot of the growing depression "crisis" is because people are living unhealthy lifestyles and the social climate is encouraging them to lead these lifestyles, they become "right" and "harmless" so they don't understand why they feel the way they do when these lifestyles take their toll.

anglo pride

this is fucking based as fuck. some people have it in them to do the things they wanted to do.

This is the best picture on Sup Forums right now.

I feel like it would be too late to start,

I write about games for a living. I am a critic. That has always been my dream and I made it happen.

I am working, but not hard at all, I've joined classes to become a cop, but I'm taking it easy, perhaps too fucking easy
I still have one subject of uni left to graduate and I want to laze around for the last time and do shit that I probably won't be able to do soon.
Next year will be the real beginning of studying hard to enter
>inb4, why don't you start NOW instead of next year?
tecnically I started already, but since I have no chance of passing the first time (its a notoriously difficult exam to be an inspector, nobody passes the first time) because I'm lagging with uni I rather take it easy

true

What degree?

>do shit that I probably won't be able to do soon
unless you're one of the few that specifically thrive off of academia - and you don't sound like it - being a graduate and actually out living is going to be a much more enjoyable and fulfilling lifestyle than being a student. especially if you do actually want to be a cop, and make it there. this is just another flavor of little kids thinking life is over after turning 18 and there's no more fun to be had ever. you are literally only just getting started in life, unless you're starting college later on.

My dream is to become a famous musician. I know how to make it happen its just that Im not attractive. Like, at all. And thats what sells in the industry.

>tfw have to study a gamedev degree because the only half-decent animation program in my state is lumped in with gamedev
