Don't they usually hire proper actors for them? Or at least the very best voice actors anyway.
Got any RTS recommendations for a beginner?
I never thought of that, but you're right user.
Never heard a single bad VA in a RTS Game.
Sup commander
>best voice acting
>not anything from From Software
Thank you.
>Playing S.W.I.N.E.
>Outrageous voice-acting and accents, even to a little kid playing the game
>Night mission, units have the same lines but they're being whispered
>Such sensibility never encountered before, mind blown
They have fewer lines and less cutscenes in general, allowing more detail.
Also, as each unit has one duty, it's easy to make their personality.
Either that or they don't give a shit to the point it's funney
Because you're zoomed out 90% of the time so the majority of your interaction with them is hearing their voice and watching them die to zerg spam seconds after being created.

Soulsbabies being as delusional as ever, nice
The Starcraft series are great. Easy to start and hard to master. I recommend you play the campaign, will help your learning huge time with the challenge missions as well.
Red alert 2.
Old, but it's 2000's 2D so it doesn't look like shit.
It's fun, quirky story, and the gameplay itself ia pretty fast paced but easy to control.
Not very refined, but very fun and easy to learn.
SHOW ME WHAT PASSES FOR FURY AMONG YOUR MISBEGOTTEN KIND
seconding red alert2, fun as fuck, amazing music, insane campaigns for solo play, and fun bot skirmishes with a map generator for multiplayer so you can roll exactly the kind of map you like to play on. best RTS for casual/beginner play that i've played yet. easy camera controls, mostly highly visible units, no selection limit, generally very nice to play.
They are also always the most quotable voice lines.
Anywhere from shit like Battle Realms to Stronghold to any Total War game, you will always find that one unit whose voice lines who stick in your ear.
Not to mention the kickass music to get you hyped

Star craft 2 is pretty shit. Most of the voices are just bland.

PROSTAGMA
I KNEW YOU'D SAY
THAT
This, the new goliath voice is shit, not to mention the pilot looks like a dev
I only played SC2 dubbed so i don't really know. lol
That's pretty cool.
STOP FOR NO ONE
Man, what the fuck happened to western devs? Most of them from early to mid 2000s made really fucking catchy music. Now everyone wants to be like Hans Zimmer where it's just nothing but barely audible ambiance music.
You say this, but then They Are Billions exists with some of the worst voice acting that exists.
They stopped employing Frank Klepacki for some reason
Capturing it was easy- holding it will be hard.
Iconic games and must play:
Supreme Commander
Red Alert 2
Age of Empires 2
Warcraft 3
StarCraft
Other notable games, but might be hard for a new player:
Total Annihilation
KKnD series
C&C 1-3, C&C Generals, Red Alert 1-3
Dune 2, Dune 2000
Warhammer: Dawn of War
Age of Mythology, WarCraft 3 and StarCraft were all my jam growing up.
Upon revisiting them though, I honestly liked AoM and WC better. SC was great at the time but it feels kinda weirder, clunkier than I remember. Spoiled by the quality of life SC2 offered.
Pretty much one of the few good things to have come out of RA3

>"His wrath falls from the heavens."
I cant believe they didn't hire Klepacki.
METAL BAWXES....WE. .WE WILL TAKE THEUR BAWXES AWAY
jesus he's all plum tuckered out
Dawn of War was the first RTS I really got into after C&C killed turn based (superior) strategy. Really enjoyed it, the expansions even moreso. Will check out the rest of the list, thanks.

It doesn't get better than this
I love how strategy games have the obligatory funny voicelines
Every single line in DOW1 is gold.
>DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!
>An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.
>SPESS MAHRINES THE ENEMEH IS AT AHR DOOR
>Yes, yesss, we are eaaager to pleeeaaassee
>BANISH YOUR FEARS
>Somebody call for'n Earthshaker?
>Beware the alien
>The mutant
>The heretic
Those aren't all from the first Dawn of War.
Red alert 3 commander's challenge is a pain in the dick
Wow, how incredibly boring and bland the new sound.
Generals and Tiberium wars are the best in the C&C lineup. RA2 is great, but quite dated.
They are, though.
>Chaos Space Marine Champion
>Space Marine Librarian
>Soulstorm Space Marine commander in the campaign
>Chaos Cultists
>Tau Ethereal being spawned in
>Imp. Guard Basilisk being spawned in
>thread about RTS voice acting
>recommends an RTS with zero voice acting for units
They did, there is a few tracks from him
there was some mumbo-jumbo about him working with some other studio so there was some legal trouble to get more from him.
My question is why don't more RTS games do animated unit portraits. That's always been my favorite thing in RTS games and seems like Blizzard is the only one who does it.
>An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded
My fav phrase in DOW. Shows the imperium perfectly well.
Close minded and dogmatic, but out of necessity due to the constant threat of chaos.
>Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment
Waste of resources i guess.
Animation is kind of expensive. Since you are zoomed out most rts don't need to out much effort to it.
But if you put a closeup portrait it needs to be very well done.
Most see rts as a dead genre, so either they don't want to waste, or it's some small dev
Quick'N'Fast just the way we like it
really sucks DOW3 was so shit. probably wont get another DOW ever again. Fuck devs wanting competitive, that shit should come naturally, don't fucking enforce it.
Age of Mythology
Halo Wars
competitive has to come naturally or you have pour a fuck ton of cash into it, To many devs thinking that just shouting it'll be a esport means the game is going to be espn confusing the shit out of people.
Why the fuck did evolve try be an esport how the fuck did it even work
They kinda need to have good voice acting since you're going to be hearing the same lines countless times over.
SHATTER THEIR SKIES
Is grey goo good?
ELIPHAS! OPEN THE PORTAL!
What the fuck even happened?
>people like Dawn of War because it does a great job at depicting the 40k universe while being a damn good RTS
>sacrifice the 40k-ness of it while making the gameplay a lot more bland to appeal to a vocal minority who wants the game to be competitive
>when you're Relic, a company that can't balance a game worth shit
Anything by Westwood including and after Dune2K
I liked DoW3 voice acting.
>YOU GOT YA SHOTTA BOYS!
>DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!
>ITS A KILLAKAN NOTTA KILLAKANT!
This is correct.
I played far too much dow1 back in the day. Still bitter about dow2 and especially dow3.
We just wanted a proper update to dow1 and we've never got it.
I CAN FEEL THE WARP OVERTAKING ME
It is a good pain
Tiberian Sun is the best C&C-game. Holds up well too.
Lelic really is just awful at balancing their games.
It's so confusing too, how they manage to make the core game so damn compelling and then just fail to properly execute the DLC, expansions and subsequent balance patches.
I should probably be happy that dow3 was a failure because I've completely written off Lelic after this and I'm not going to look forward to anything they do.
They used to stand for and for quality and innovation in the rts genre, now they're no better than EA
Many game companies are just making games to milk as much money as they can. Competitive gaming is a huuuuge money maker and everyone wants to be a part of it. Even sacrificing great games to turn them into bland piles of shit so they can be "esport friendly"
Regarding Relic, we probably wont get Space Marine 2 because of them going under. Shit makes me so angry I make a Khorne Beskerker look like a goddamn Mormon.
Wood needed
Whoops
Not even a mention of relics finest work? Company of heroes had fantastic VO.

Going off of this anons question, what RTS games have good ai/skirmish matches?
ENGINEERS, EYES AND EARS
