What are you on about? Yes it was a tech demo, but they never said nor apologised for it being "low quality". Takahashi just said they were laser focused on experimenting with gameplay/design ideas and getting to grips with HD development.

The mechs ARE cool as fuck, but the combat was really shitty as it was just a lesser version of ground combat. You have 8 arts tied to equipped parts, all of which had really long cooldowns and didn't interplay with each other all that much. So combat usually boiled down to you dumping all your arts in one go and be left sitting and waiting.
