Bioware always had a blatant good and a blatant evil path, the only difference was they always wrote good party members that you cared about, or at least could attach to 2 or 3. There was no pandering they just wanted to tell a neat story with good and evil decisions.

They expected 1.7m sales for BFII, and instead they got 1.3m. It also sold less than BFI in the same amount of time.
As well as being a PR nightmare, it's a commercial failure. They're going to have to turn the lootboxes back on soon just to make their money back.
Anthem got delayed to 2019 specifically because of the lootbox controversy in my opinion. I've heard reports that the devs are very anxious about that aspect of the game, and the massive delay implies that Anthem was chock full of the exact same lootbox shit that's in BFII.
EA didn't use BFII as an experiment, it's a massive property, they were confident that everything would work out fine. If they thought that way about BFII then there's no reason not to assume that they thought the same about Anthem.
It's been delayed because they're panicking and scrambling to overhaul a progression system that was designed entirely around lootboxes.

I think it's grossly misleading that EA still calls the current day "Bioware" Bioware when it's basically a whole new studio. They're tarnishing the name of a once beloved studio the best they can.
Its a zombie studio now, all of the old writers/staff are gone and its basically intern-level hacks making slave wages for EA on rolling contracts. Muzyka and Zeschuk are long-gone, the latter of whom is literally getting drunk for a living now.

Diversity is only a problem if it's there for its own sake and the is compromised just to make a point. And it's totally possible to make a point in a way that enhances the game, but that takes talent. It's the fine line between art and pandering.
