those VMUs ate through those batteries.
>that one kid who played with his VMU at school, playing Chao Adventure
>that kid was me
what the f---- is this?
Aw you know what's up.
Fucking consoles nowadays don't even print the game.
Excellent taste friendo.
Ha! I get it! Funny!
OH NO NOT AGAIN
I should have posted the full opening though

I want Aika to step on me
I honestly never found the Dreamcast to be loud or annoying as some people say it is. I quite like the sound of the laser moving, it means my game is working and things are loading in and out.
Now the VMU's beeping to indicate the battery has run dry, that can be kinda annoying. Since I never replace those things.
The Dreamcast is my favourite console. I'm not saying it's the best console, or even hosts the best games... but there's just something really likeable about the Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast is that one girl you found cute whilst everyone focused on the thot with slutty clothes and too much make up on.
The Dreamcast is also that console that killed herself due to family issues and depression, just as you were getting to know her.
Sega just had to be the one to die didn't they.
I mean, at least it wasn't a food analogy.

Let's be honest lads, we're all guilty of letting this theme loop over and over.
Here, have the intro in 3D.
plays.tv
I never cared much for waifu's, but if I had to choose one it'd probably be Aika. Don't really know why.
I think it's a really cool console overall. Had a nice variety of games, and some top tier classics from Sega. It was also the console Sega bet everything on, so they did everything to keep it up.
The Dreamcast is eternal!
I personally prefer youtube.com
And youtube.com
Sega of Japan was a mistake.
This is why the Dreamcast version was superior to the Gamecube version. The music is so important in this game. Watering it down to fit on a Gamecube disc was an insult.
Sega should've stayed American.
Fun fact, but this theme was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto from Yellow Magic Orchestra.
loved the dreamcast. got that shit on release day
does the dreamcast have good emulation? should I buy a console?
I don't know about that, the encounter rate on the Dreamcast was pretty awful.
They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
>does the dreamcast have good emulation?
No
>should I buy a console?
Yes
Piracy is super easy.
I don't know about emulation, but Dreamcasts can be had cheaply and are easy to mod.
Did anyone ever have the issue were their console would restart itself randomly after an hour or so? I stopped playing my console for about 2 years, assuming it was fucked. Then I found some fix on the Internet, where you just had to push a few prongs on the circuit board to make it work. I was fucking amazed when it actually fixed it.
DC discs were 1GB, NG 1.5GB. I don't think it's a capacity issue.
SoA comes on two discs for Dreamcast.
The era, the aesthetic of early 3D, the fact it failed. It's so damn charming.
youtube.com
It was on about 2 discs if I remember correctly.
UNDERSTAN
yeah. i think the second disc starts after yafutoma.
It's pretty iffy. Right now there's NullDC, Reicast and a new Dreamcast emulator in the works called redream. NullDC has errors, but works out of the box basically, along with Widescreen support. Reicast is a better version of NullDC but still kinda bad haven't used it outside my Android phone/tablet (where it's works well) and redream is very very new but keep it in mind for later.
As for buying the system, if you can get one for around £40 it'll be a good price these days. Try and get a model 0/1 so it can play burned games, even if it's bad for the laser you can run Dreamshell on it.
Honestly, it's not too bad. You want bad encounter rates, try the first Final Fantasy or Persona 2.
>Piracy is super easy
It also kills the laser, so watch out.
Yeah, had that problem back in 2012, fixed it by doing the same thing. I think it has something to do with regulating power.
1.2GB actually.
Yeah but I love the dreamcast. I recently fixed one so I'm not that worried about not having a working one for a while.
Is it worth picking one up today?
Are they easy enough to find cheap games for? Do you need to invest in memory cards and VMUs?
Except Arcadia on Dreamcast is only 1.4GB, and that includes duplicate data on both discs.
The music wasn't downsampled for Gamecube, just poorly converted to a GC friendly format.
It's not enough of a difference to want to play the DC version more than the largely superior GC version.
>We will never get Power Stone 3 because it'd compete with Smash
This timeline isn't the best timeline.
It's because it was an underdog with a lot of actually really cool games. It was like an actual console for people that liked games enough to support something doomed for failure. And the early 3d graphics that were just a little better than the n64.
Piracy kills the console faster though. The bootleg discs make it run faster.
I took my dreamcast apart to fix it and was also amazed I was able to fix it. Dreamcast is weird that way.
I JUST WANT MY NINTENDO SWITCH
is neo4all okay, i wanna buy a dreamcast arcade stick but i don't think it's worth it just for karous and ikaruga
Depends.
If you want all the good shit, get ready to give up an arm and leg and a fuckton of the games are expensive.
On the other hand, if you don't mind sacrificing a laser and modding it to play from an SD card, then it can prove to be a far cheaper alternative.
Either way, you're still fucked because the best picture quality will be 480p on a computer monitor.
NEVER
EVER
These
>Is it worth picking one up today?
Depends on what you want to play. It's got a lot of cool titles so I'd say get one. Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Metropolis Street Racer, Virtua Tennis, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Ikaruga and even crazier Japanese titles.
>Are they easy enough to find cheap games for?
Yeah, really good arcade ports, as well as PS1/N64 games go for pretty cheap. If you're okay with spending around Do you need to invest in memory cards and VMUs?
They're the same thing, and yes. The VMU is the only way to save. They range from £3-5 mostly.
youtube.com
Shame this never came out officially.
Thanks terrorist scum for getting video games cancelled/edited.
Bastards.
>No Metropolis Street Race
literally the best racing game of the era
>Opel speedster
Shieeeeeeeet
>modding it to play from a sd card
If and when mine craps out on me I'm going to look into that.
>put in blank, unburned CD
>Dreamcast turns into a Rolls Royce Jet turbine preparing for takeoff
seriously though, don't do this
Get a Japanese one. The games are mad cheap and most menus are in english anyway
What's the best way to burn DC discs?
I had a brand new battery die in less than 4 hours due to playing the Power Stone mini games. Shit was ridiculous.
Did Sega predict WHIIIRRRR posting?
Aw fuck I didn't even know that was in the works. That and half life was going to be made if I recall correctly.
IIRC there were plans to port SS1 to the Sega CD.
Fuck I need grandia 3. I'm saving this wonderful webm.
What are some DC stuff only you think you've played?
Y-you mean 2, a-user.
I've never had any trouble with any CDR burning at any speed throughout the years.
Oh sorry. Now I'm sad.
Pretty sure a near complete version of Half-Life got leaked.
Wasn't there a specific Dreamcast card you could put in a PC? I think LGR covered it, but I can't find it anywhere.
i loved that game, is there even any games similar to it?
Is it playable to the end?
>Wasn't there a specific Dreamcast card you could put in a PC?
I've never heard of anything like that before.
You might be thinking of unreleased stuff, because there were talks of VMU MP3 players and shit. I think a few games could connect to the back of the console using a special device but apart from that I've never heard of something like that.
Or are you thinking of VGA support?
Yeah, runs alright as well.
Where is Phantasy Star Online? I can't seem to find it on your list here.
It was a Saturn card.
youtube.com
I just bought that. Couldn't believe how inexpensive it was.
Would you buy a little Dreamcast with most of the games on it?
I bought a new dreamcast. How do I tell again if my dreamcast can run burned games?
No. Sega lads aren't aren't little soy boys who play around with their gay little soy toys.
Also is this half life copy legit?
No. The DC version was barely out of alpha when it was canned.
damn..
I was hoping it was just a burned copy and he made the label.

.... wut?
Had the Dreamcast included a DVD player, better graphical capabilities, a second analog stick and was as successful as perhaps the original Xbox or Gamecube, how long do you think it would have lasted?
I would say 2006 at the latest.
There were plans for a dreamcast 2. I wish they would have done it.
Homebrew software, yo.
I had a $20 steam gift card and didn't know what to buy. Got Grandia 2 because of this webm. Thanks user.
Here's a Dreamcast atmospheric playlist for the anons getting work done
youtube.com
I love the dreamcast
>Pros
VGA adapter gives you a very nice picture and is compatible with most monitors.
Pretty decent library of games, including definitive versions of certain PS1 / N64 era multiplats (for example Tony Hawk's 1 & 2, Resident Evil 2 & 3)
Great aracde ports of fighting games, if you like them you should definitely get one.
The VMUs are not expensive and are still easy to find new in box.
>Cons
The controller is not that great, less buttons than a Dualshock and only one analog stick definitely will leave you wanting.
If you don't like pre-PS2 era 3D games, you probably won't like a lot of what the console has to offer.
Many of the classic games were ported to other consoles so only get one if you want to play exclusive-to-DC games or are a stickler for playing on original hardware.
Some of le hidden gems can be pricey.
Is Dreamcast emulation a thing?
Would it be a good idea to get into it?
It's a great webm. Have fun bro.
It’s a thing, but it isn’t perfect.
It didn't matter what sort of a mood I was in, playing this game always made me happy.
VR port when?
I've played it so much I'm pretty sure I could still beat it on muscle memory alone.
I recently moved out but I remember my brother playing this all the fucking time. Those horrible voice actors, those early 3d graphics, the constant sound of gunshots and zombies dying. I love it.
>Sega didn’t officially release the light guns because of Columbine.
>Had to import a light gun from Japan back in the day because I never trusted third party controllers after experiences with the N64.
Thanks school shooters
This and SC were the games that finally got a lot of my friends into fightan. Also, getting a Dreamcast as a teenager was godly. Playing online in your room and also using the clunky browser to try to look up nudes.
