They always looked at what was hugely popular, invested there and then used the capital to make a safe investment in producing the same thing as the original.

Only Overwatch made it out of the recent hero shooter trend alive, literally every other game is dead or on life support. The fucking brown and grey modern military shooter trend from last generation lasted longer then hero shooters. It's going to all be about battle royale shooters in a year or two.

Out of the 20 something heroes they have, only 6 or so are worth playing

It's more like Valve saw potential in mods like Counter Strike and Team Fortress. Hiring popular mod developers into a game studio and expanding on their ideas is exactly what developers should do. Portal was just a tech demo before Valve started working on it. Dota 2 is shit however.

In like a decade. Maybe. We're currently in a craze where every form of entertainment is being politicized and everything MUST be pigeonholed into a narrative. Want to write a black character? Guess what, his one character defining feature is that he is black and his personality must fit into one of several predetermined, socially acceptable checklists to make sure it doesn't offend anybody.

This type of thinking will get a lot of publicity in the short term with the whole race bait craze but undermine the capability of an entire group of people in the long run. But then again niggers are too stupid to actually care.
